What's the difference between кот and кошка? Do they have a different meaning at all, or is it just up to the speaker to use whichever she wants?

Hi Daria, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm hearing его with a v sound rather than a g sound. Can you clarify please? I tried to have my Russian dictionary app pronounce it and it seems to have a v sound as well. thank you
eeyyaakk The "Г" in "его" is always pronounced as the English letter "v" (Cyrillic "В"). Another common example is "сегодня" (pronounced "сеВодня").

eeyyaakk Yes, Russian words are almost always pronounced as spelled. Much more consistently than in English. But there are occasional exceptions.

Tomas O Maonaigh hey, in another video of Daria's, the one with the elephant, would you mind telling me when to use в and на? Daria used в with Africa, like в Африке, or something similar, but then she used на with Manhattan, like на Манхэтэне.
