      I take it as exaggerations but not negations. For example - pushyamitra shunga and mihurakula were most likely intolerant of Buddhists. However the numbers proposed are often impossible.
      It's the same with the muslim sources depicting their bloody conquests proudly in India. The events were most likely true and bloody as described, but the numbers of armies themselves mentioned in those texts are highly unlikely.

    5:51 Mihirkula on this coin looks like Prithviraj Kapoor from Pakeeza as Akbar.😂
    Anyways on serious note, awesome episode. 👍
    On this coin of Mihirkula we see a scrolling vine branching out on left and right. On one end of this is the Umbrella ☂ and on the other is Trishul 🔱 . The symbols of Buddha and Shiva.
    Do we know what the coin inscription reads?
    Also the Kidarite Huns have a dressing style we have come to identify as Iranian the Flying Ribbon Headgear. But the Alcon Huns don’t have this kind of dressing at all. So my question is what leads historians to club both as Huns? What does the ‘Hun’ identity mean- is it ethnic, tribal association, social, political, religious or a geographical identity. And what gives people this dual identity Alcon+Hun?

    • @JayVardhanSingh
      @JayVardhanSingh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's considerable evidence. Firstly the Chinese and other accounts of this period viewed Alchons and Hephthalites as Huns. For example, from Song Yun, we learn that the Hephthalites helped the Alchons rise.
      Then we have some artefacts that provide information about the close connection between the Alchons and the Hephthalites, suggesting that these two groups were Huns. You've also the seal of Hunaraja from Kaushambi, which probably refers to Toramana.
      Then in the inscription of Prakashadharman, Yashodharman and the Maukharis, these Alchons are described as Hunas.
      All of this makes it quite clear that these Alchons were Huns.

      About the Southern part, there was no complete conquest that happened. We only know that these rulers submitted to Samudragupta and after that Samudragupta reinstated these Southern rulers. There's no evidence to suggest that the Gupta ever have effective control in these Southern territories.

      Hindu kings were not fighting for religious conversion, they were fighting to expand their kingdom, which was happening all over the world at that time😂

      @@megalucario9497 Correct 🙏 Oesho - is *Isho - Ishwara* and depicted *Pasupati* (Lord of the senses and those driven solely by the 5 senses - animals). Confirmed this with Dr. Vineet Aggarwal who has a post on the same (quite old - few months old) but is there. My discussion is also there 👍
