Bear in mind that when Zizi Jeanmaire first performed this ballet with Roland Petit (her fiance at the time, later her husband) who created it for her, Baryshnikov was most likely still in diapers! Petit created it in 1949, and Baryshnikov (depending on the source) was born in either 1947 or 1948. Jeanmaire, born in 1924, would have been 25 when she first performed it -- and this was filmed in 1980. When you do the math, you realize that Jeanmaire must have been around 56.
You're impressed ? Well, Plissetskaïa was still dancing at 60 and Margot Fonteyn was more than 70 years old when she danced Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet choreographed by her great friend and partner Rudolf Nureyev.
Замысел Пети менее интересен, чем у Бизе, более поверхостный. Смысл музыки Бизе перевернут. Хореография интересна, тем более она создавалась так давно - в 40-е годы. Заметны заимствования у этой "Кармен" в постановке Алонсо для Плисецкой. Сам Барышников показался несколько салонным или эстрадным, тем более это мое первое впечатление, вижу его первый раз. Столько ажиотажа вокруг его имени, я согласна, что он хороший танцовщик, но как артист...
