  • Mr. Jinnah’s famed 11 August 1947 speech has long been quoted as guaranteeing religious freedom for Pakistanis. Why was it not taken seriously? Why have non-Muslims left the country in such numbers and what awaits them in the future?
    An interactive session with
    • Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy
    • Bishop Samuel Azariah (Director Christian Study Centre)
    • Pritam Das Rathi (President Islamabad Hindu Panchayat)
This session is moderated by Dr. Naazir Mahmood.

Resignation letter of Jogendra Nath Mandal:
“Muslims and Dalits in Bengal were in the same situation. Both were backward, illiterate and oppressed. I was assured that by associating with the Muslim League steps would be taken for the betterment of the conditions of Dalits and Muslims. We would take steps that would lead to harmony and communal peace. This is why I supported the League.
“The League celebrated Direct Action Day in 1946. This led to terrible riots in Bengal. Dalits and backward Hindus in Noakhali-Narshaar areas of Calcutta were killed and hundreds converted to Islam. Hindu women were kidnapped and raped. I undertook a journey through the riot-affected areas and witnessed the miserable conditions of people but still, I continued to support the League with a positive hope in my heart.
“I was admitted to the council of Ministers after 14 August 1947 when Pakistan came into being. I talked with Khwaja Nazimuddin and requested him to include backward class members in the cabinet of east Bengal and he promised. However, he never kept the promise and that disappointed me.
“On the false complaint of a Muslim, several people belonging to the local Namoshudray community in Didharkul in Gopalganj had to suffer atrocities. The Muslims joined hands with the police to thrash people of the Namoshudray community, enter their homes and they even beat up a pregnant woman so badly that she had an abortion. The police and the League Muslims committed heinous atrocities on the backward community. Residents of Sialhet and Habibgadh were thrashed viciously.
“They not only thrashed people but Hindu men were forced to send their women to the army camps to satisfy the lust of the army men. I called this to the attention of the administrators and called for a report but there was no outcome.
“The police, army and Muslim goons combined together with arms to attack a small village in Khulna Jilla. Women were raped. I undertook a journey of Kalshera and nearby villages on 28th February 1950 and saw ruined settlements. About 350 homes were razed to the ground. I reported the facts.
“I toured regions of affected areas in Dhaka. I was shocked to see bodies of slain Hindus lying on the tracks of Dhaka-Narayanganj and Dhaka-Chantgaon.
“I met the chief minister of East Bengal and requested him to take steps to stop the riots.
“I reached Barisaal on 20th February 1950 and was shocked to know of the incidents in this area. Hindus in large numbers were burnt alive. I walked through almost all the riot-affected areas and it was the same story: Mass killings of Hindus. One zamindar in Maghapasha had 200 of his householders killed and 40 were injured. It was living hell that I saw. In one place 300 Hindus were massacred. I saw mounds of skeletons. Dogs and vultures were feasting on rotting corpses. After killing the men the mobs had distributed the women among themselves to do as they pleased.
“60 people were killed in Rajapur. All Hindu shops were looted and razed inBabuganj. About 10000 Hindus were killed in the communal riots in East Bengal. What happened to the women and children is horrifying and brings up tears.
“I asked myself if I had come to Pakistan in the name of Islam.
“He further wrote in his letter: What is the status in East Bengal? After partition 5 lakh Hindus left Pakistan. Hindu doctors, lawyers, shopkeepers and businessmen were all forced to leave their homes and belongings due to communal riots and fears.
“Incidents have come to light of rape by Muslims on women of backward communities. Hindus selling properties to Muslims did not receive full value. Fact is, there is no justice or Fairplay in Pakistan. There is no rule of law. Hindus are worried.
“It is the same situation in West Pakistan. There were about 1 lakh backward community people in Pakistani Punjab. The majority were forcibly converted to Islam. I have a list in which 363 Temples and Gurudwaras are under the control of Muslims. Of these, some have been turned into shops, slaughterhouses and hotels. I have received news that a large number of backward community people in Sindh have been forcibly converted to Islam. Their fault is that they were Hindus and had to suffer atrocities.
“Putting aside all that has been happening in East and West Pakistan, my personal experience is painful. You used the Prime Minister’s office and the parliamentary party to make use of me. I had no inkling that you would exploit me in this way of untruth and injustice. It was difficult for me to refuse your directives so long as I was a minister in your cabinet. However, I cannot tolerate or bear the lies, deceit and injustice. I have decided to resign from the post of Minister in your cabinet. I hope you will accept my resignation forthwith. You are free to assign the post to the person you think fit to further your Islamic state.”

Appropriate to state here that India's eminent lawyer Mr Ram Jethmalani has stated in an interview that he wanted to continue to live in Pakistan but things became too difficult for Hindus and he had to move to India. If Mr Jethmalani, an eminent lawyer, who had full support of his Muslim partners could not live in Pakistan, we can imagine how difficult it must be for ordinary Hindus. So Mr Parvez Hoodbhoy's statement that initially minorities were not treated badly in Pakistan is not true.

They used to tell us places that belong to Hindus and Sikhs whenever we would go out together. And how they Hindu ladies will bring them thaal ( big trays) of dry fruits and food on Eid and stuff. I have heard other elders( not related to me) to divide and share past that makes one hate Hindus So no I feel like we are transferring this hate to our children and we need to stop it.

Parvez Hoodbhoy is on the wrong track if he thinks that Sanskrit came to India from Iran or central Asia. This thinking is an extension of now the totally rejected theory of the Aryan invasion and association of Sanskrit with them that the idea of a now extinct Proto-Aryan language was entertained by the British to be somewhere in the central Asia. There is now tons of evidence to disprove this. For example, the date of Rigveda is traditionally accepted by the western scholars to be around 1500-1200 B.C.. This date can be made stretched back to 2000-1500 B.C. by this piece of evidence. There was a peace treaty between the Hitties and Mittinites in around 1400 B.C. with their territories in the present day Turkey and Iraq wherein the Rigvedic gods Indra, Varun and others are mentioned. But I don't see any evidence of Rigveda being composed in the central Asia, but actually they were composed in the Rawalpindi region of the present Pakistan wherein Sindh river is frequently mentioned and Saraswati river is held sacred, but Ganga and Yamuna are rarely mentioned. The distance between Rawalpindi and Turkey and Mesopotamia is considerable for the Rigvedic themes to be worked out and spread to such a far off region within a century of 1500-1400 B.C.. Unfortunately, present day Pakistanis, even the most learned of them, are no better than ignoramuses as far as the knowledge of ancient India, Hinduism and Jainism is concerned. What to speak of Sanskrit, not even Hindi is taught anywhere in Pakistan.

Right from the beginning Islamic majority of fanatical tendency was to convert anybody peacefully if possible or convert to Islam forcibly. Well ! I would say the Muslim community is more rigid when it comes to reforms because of ultra submission to faith and this scares anyone who is from that faith. Change, reform is scary and a good thing . Scary because you don't know how thing will unfold and good because if you get habitual of reforming as per Era you can tweak mindset of society as per the progression. Because Muslim community have not witnessed any religious reforms for centuries that uncertainty of how things will unfold after a reform plus their radical groups keep pushing and putting them in a situation of us vs them or do's and don't. Iam a Hindu and my sister is an atheist not the militant one (who keep on disrespecting others opinion) but she respects my belief and she wants same respect for her of not believing in an entity , simple as that. Our family have no issues because hey!! we are one unit we tend to have difference of opinions and thoughts. Hindus have radical elements but Majority are progressive and want our country to be successful and people of all religion could reap the benefits. May Radha Krishna bless you all and yes believe in change and reforms but stick to your culture because that's who we are that's what makes us sons and daughters of this soil. Most of muslim are very happy in India and they are true nationalist and around 20% Muslim vote for BJP. In this higher number are girls. In kerala there are atleast 1 member of family who are ex muslim and they have made ex muslim group.
Further your comment on sanskrit is totally against Hindus. Aryan invesion theory is created by britishers and European. The latest research prove it it is false narrative. In you read Ramayan and Mahabharat which is our history you will find the astrological information given in these text says they are 5000 and 8000 years old. They are in sanskrit. Our vedas is more older than that. Please read those It has lot of lot of scientific evidences. From latest excavation done by ASI has proved Ramayan and mahabharat were our history. If you can expose how most of Muslims were converted to this faith in Indian subcontinent they would leave it automatically. Open society and development is the key.
The turks have left brutal records of Non-muslim torcher and enslavement in number of millions. You have to reach a point where you can openly discuss those things in society. This way you can win over the pashmanda Muslims, the Ashraf muslim elites don't love Islam but the love their Turkic ancestry like Saif ali etc naming Jahangir and Taimur etc. So Ashraf would remain muslim, local converts would become Hindus.

All Muslim states are at least 1000 years back in their thinking, research and progression. All religions allow reasoning except Islam. I tried to procure Quran in English language, I was promised 4-5 times by their promoters in the Universities, however, never got it. I have numerous Muslim friends and they are fantastic in their dealings and we do not discuss religion. Islam is the most misunderstood religion due to their preachers (Mulas) and rulers. Al other religions are scared of Islam and do not talk about them due to their terror and Jihad.

According to Jamison and Brereton, in their 2014 translation of the Rigveda, the dating of this text "has been and is likely to remain a matter of contention and reconsideration". The dating proposals so far are all inferred from the style and the content within the hymns themselves. Philological estimates tend to date the bulk of the text to the second half of the second millennium BCE. Being composed in an early Indo-Aryan language, the hymns must post-date the Indo-Iranian separation, dated to roughly 2000 BCE. A reasonable date close to that of the composition of the core of the Rigveda is that of the Mitanni documents of northern Syria and Iraq (c. 1450-1350 BCE), which also mention the Vedic gods such as Varuna, Mitra and Indra. Other evidence also points to a composition close to 1400 BCE.
The Rigveda's core is accepted to date to the late Bronze Age, making it one of the few examples with an unbroken tradition. Its composition is usually dated to roughly between c. 1500 and 1000 BCE. According to Michael Witzel, the codification of the Rigveda took place at the end of the Rigvedic period between ca. 1200 and 1000 BCE, in the early Kuru kingdom. Asko Parpola argues that the Rigveda was systematized around 1000 BCE, at the time of the Kuru kingdom.

At 22:35 it seems clear even the so-called 'educated Pakistanis' talk like a pedestrian 'Madrasi chaap'.
Sanskrit might be related to other Indo-European languages; but the language was refined and scripted in present day Pakistan. The ancient India encompassed present day Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Sanskrit grammarian Panini was born and lived in present Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. University of Takshashila was in present day Pakistan. The holy books Vedas were written near banks of River Sindh. Pashupatinath seal found in Mohenjo-Daro site is a proof Hindu religion existed for 4500+ years
Finally, the two-nation theory came from Muslims and the person who initiated was Sir Syed Ahmad Khan the so-called 'enlightened and educated philosopher' in 1888.

The aryan invasion theory has been one of the most controversial historical topics for well over a century. However, it should be pointed out that it remains just that - a theory. To date no hard evidence has proven the aryan invasion theory to be fact. In this essay we will explain the roots of this hypothesis and how, due to recent emergence of new evidence over the last couple of decades, the validity of the aryan invasion theory has been seriously challenged.
It is indeed ironic that the origin of this theory does not lie in Indian records, but in 19th Century politics and German nationalism. No where in the Vedas, Puranas or Itihasas is there any mention of a Migration or Invasion of any kind. In 1841 M.S. Elphinstone, the first governor of the Bombay Presidency, wrote in his book History of India:
'It is opposed to their (Hindus) foreign origin, that neither in the Code (of Manu) nor, I believe, in the Vedas, nor in any book that is certainly older than the code, is there any allusion to a prior residence or to a knowledge of more than the name of any country out of India. Even mythology goes no further than the Himalayan chain, in which is fixed the habitation of the gods... .To say that it spread from a central point is an unwarranted assumption, and even to analogy; for, emigration and civilization have not spread in a circle, but from east to west. Where, also, could the central point be, from which a language could spread over India, Greece, and Italy and yet leave Chaldea, Syria and Arabia untouched? There is no reason whatever for thinking that the Hindus ever inhabited any country but their present one, and as little for denying that they may have done so before the earliest trace of their records or tradition
