My friend bought one of these new for his son back in the day. Came with a .243 barrel and a .410 shotgun barrel. Kid killed a deer with it. Pretty cool

One the most reliable rifles I own. Simple.

I had a baikal 223 for a year, the trigger pull was 5 lbs and you can't lighten them. So I went with the H&R Ultra with the light trigger.

Older shotgun version has extractor only, but for a while they are making it with a selective ejector, or rather can be called switch on, switch off ejector. Its under the receiver (like a little hook, spurr), forward ejector, backward is extractor. Quite popular rifle in Hungary, as a backup gun, or a gun for a rarely used but needed caliber (for example you have a .30-06 main gun like a CZ or a Mauser, and you need something for roe deer or fox, badger, jackal, etc, and you want a .222 or .223 Remington or a 7.62x39mm). The shotgun version is not as popular as it was under the "communist regime". Those days not everyone could own a rifle, and the IZH-18 shotgun with slugs could act as a "rifle", especially with some cheap scope. You still can find the shotgun, always can find some for sale, especially in 16 gauge (maybe the 12 or 20 gauge is rather a keeper gun).

      I do think it’s a 10:1 ratio, maybe a 7:1

Here in Europe (Iam from Czech republic) you can find them very commonly. Calibers are .222; .223; 7,62x39; .308 win; 7,62x54R (never buy one in this caliber... :D ). I never see diferent caliber here, but my friend have one rechambered in 22-250 (from .222 barrel).
The price here is around 200 USD (5 000 CZK).
Its realy a rifle of a poor man. You have to find one wich is accurate (because big number of them is not...). If you can, you want rifle from 70s production. When its new production, it very often sucks.

@@NCrdwlf Well it is. But seriously. Its too much for weapon like that. It kicks so much. I had one and I had to sell it :D
Maybe if you are reloading, you can make suitable load for that, but if you want to shoot stuff from store, that is basically everytime made for barrell lenght like mosin nagant or SVD, you will be unpleasantly surprised...
Even Sellier & Bellot is making 7,62x54R for 730mm barrell lenght.
I will try to find one video of some eastern guy shooting it :D all you see is just fireball :D
      EDIT:
Here is the video. He starts shoot in 2:00.
