FUCKING SLAYER!!!! Listening to one song on this album does not do the album Justice. Seasons in the Abyss, in my opinion was slayer's best album and should be listened to from beginning to end. the transition from one song to the next is so perfect, it's odd just hearing one song. Kerry King, was quoted on MTV saying he thought it was their best album too. great reaction.
yeah they transition to the next very well I really feel what you mean. I think that I had this album in my auto-reverse walkman playing non-stop for almost a year at that time. So many Km/Mi I walked listening to it... great teenage memories!
The album that took my Slayer virginity😂. It had songs I could Digest, at that part of my life. My journey into metal has been small steps all the time into Heaier and heavier music.
I remember when this came out and they toured the "Clash of the Titan's" tour. Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Alice In Chains opening up!!!! What a show!!!!
I saw that tour in Portland, Maine. Awesome! Megadeth was a huge disappointment, but it was my first time hearing Alice in Chains and that was a pleasant surprise!
suicidal tendencies had replaced slayer when i saw that tour but yes-freaking awesome tour groundbreaking as well it proved that metal was able to draw big audiences
@@cdm46290 I agree. Both were unique and that was the magic of the back and forth. Cuz Jeff was sloppy riffing but not when he played solos. Kerry was the opposite. In the mix…it mixed, lol.
The solo lacks a tonal center but it's not really out of key, it's atonal. It's a musical device called atonality, and it takes advanced musical skill to know how to use it. Stravinsky was into atonaity, and jazz legends like Miles Davis were as well. The rhythmic riff is modal so that opens possibilities. It's brilliant, really. Kerry King wrote this one, music and lyrics. If anybody wants to hate on Kerry King, this is the wrong song to do it on.
They play a lot of symmetrical licks revolving around the key. It’s not that they don’t play within the songs root key, but they definitely add some off key notes for that dark/haunted sound
Slayer is chaos, especially live... There's no other band with this level of agression in their music. And so many hits to check...😬 Hell Awaits, Disciple, Bitter Peace, Evil has no Boundaries (live at the monsters of rock 98), Final Six(grammy award winner) and my favorite of all time, Dittohead, to name a few...Keep it up! 🤘🏽
It transcended their own music and 70% solo to the keen ear. Was not a song like that at all until this song released, A lot of people copied it and never mention that.
Doesn't matter, but there's a weird chop at the 3:26 mark. (music is chopped). Anyway, glad Lex got to hear a song where she gets the stank face! Slayer had amazing riffs.
Strange. I think there's also one in Seasons in the Abyss at just past the 4 minute mark, right when the guitar solo is starting. Or maybe it was intentionally played like that and I'm just hearing things 🤔. If you see this check it out and let me know what you think.
There's NOTHING ON EARTH quite like the actual physical experience of being at or in a Slayer show ! I got to see them in Vancouver British Columbia with Anthrax, Testament, Lamb Of God and Behemoth. 😁 ✌❤🇨🇦
Slayer and Megadeth did a 25th anniversary tour together. Slayer played the Seasons in the Abyss album in full and Megadeth played Rust in Peace album in full. Megadeth made a dvd of one of the shows,I wish Slayer recorded a dvd of their set also. The dvd Slayer has playing the Reign in Blood album in full is sick! The 25th anniversary show was one of the best shows I’ve seen.🤘🏻
Seen them on their final tour in Indianapolis. The show was delayed due to thunder storms so we drank and drank to the point I don't remember SLAYER even playing. If I didn't have pics on my phone I never would have known I went.
Slayer often uses notes that others would consider unpleasant yet they fit perfect within the confines of a Slayer song. They are super innovative and I believe even influenced their peers.
You guys are literally reacting to all the perfect songs a metal head / classic rock lover would wanna see….keep it up, genuinely enjoy this channel. I get home after a long day and always put on some brad and lex 🤘🏻
Same here! Haunting the Chapel was my first experience.... its what I needed at that time too! And every album after secured them as my all time favorite band! Now at age 53... I feel the world went to crap after they retired! I was at the last 3 shows... actually... I missed vegas.... but I was at Oakland and LA both shows! I cried so hard.
Your metal live streams are my favorite. Of course i love all your live streams but your metal are my favorite. Thanks for doing this one. Great reaction.
slayer was produced by Rick Ruben, the same guy who produced a ton of rap artist. this explains why kerry king plays guitar on beastie boys license to ill. i'll say it, best rap album of all time.
This is when Slayer tried to branch out a bit, by going in a slower direction. I prefer Slayer over Slower myself 😀 but it's all good. "Antichrist" is one of my favorites, and is what I consider "the REAL Slayer". They were like a combination of Venom, Metallica and Iron Maiden when they did their debut record. You guys haven't heard the old stuff yet (Metal Blade Records years).
In High School 1990 we all had jean jackets with our Favorite Bands ironed on the back. I remember seeing alot of Slayer, Danzig, Metallica, AC/DC, and Iron Maiden. To each his own.
Always was a metal guy...just started listening to Slayer at 52 yr old, and I had only wished I started sooner, I always thought they were too heavy...but now I get it
Jeff Hanneman was the longtime rhythm/lead guitarist until he was bit by a spider in a hot tub and contracted necrotizing fasciitis. He had to essentially quit the band and he never fully recovered. He died of liver failed from alcoholism at age 49. Sad ending
This song and album is awesome. My favorite slayer album. Seasons in the abyss. I must have heard this album a gazillion times and it never gets old, love it!!!!!
Very happy to see you two take up the guitar. I'm 44 from a musical family and started when I was 14, wound up teaching guitar at a music store for 13 years. Grew up playing MetallicA and Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura etc... Though I play anything I like the sound of, from classical to theme songs and cartoons, whatever makes it fun. :) If you guys have any guitar questions feel free to ask. Again, good on ya for picking it up, just remember to give it time. :)
What a classic Jam, I remember being about 14 the first time I heard this song. The lyrics here kind of remind me of a dystopian premonition of ''some of the craziness''' that came upon us in the 2020...aftermath, imho. You two are Awesome! !!!👍 . Love the fact you are judging this song So -Incredibly Objectively. Thanks you for doing what you do here ~ Subbed ~
Lex is correct, it is about the downfall of civilization. It is about the people struggling to survive in the irradiated wasteland after a thermonuclear war. Lex is also correct, Slayer is a thrash band. They are part of the Big Four of Thrash along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
I've always had an image or video in my head of this post-apocalyptic earth (maybe post-nuclear war) kinda like The Road Warrior. Everything gets turned on its head and survival is the name of the game. Only dust, sand, and remnants/ruins of what once was remain. . . . Skeletons of Society.
Guys, next Slayer song should be "World Painted Blood". You will be glad you did, the lyrics and the instruments are SO GOOD. Not too artistic to comprehend either. Come ooooon guys, have I ever led you astray?
Ho my, I just discovered that song checking old cassettes I had recorded radio over in 2002, and some part of the previous recording had this song, and was like damn that good ! fucking baddass !!
Hello from New England..This was the transition album were SLAYER slowed it down a bit and got a bit more groove..A lot of the riffs on this album might sound familiar because METALLICA used similar riff ideas on IN JUSTICE FOR ALL...This main riff sounds like EYE OF THE BEHOLDER and HARVESTER OF SORROW is similar to DEAD SKIN MASK off this same album..Good pick..Peace from the Northeast...

the solo started with Kerry and the middle of it Jeff n Kerry play same notes when the solo got louder n tone changed from both playing same time. they have different rigs .thats where you get that tone change
I don't listen to Slayer often, but when I do, so do all of my neighbors!
My neighbor being my 70 yr old landlord.
My neighbors Love Slayer as much as I do. It’s not like they have a choice. 🤣🤣
My neighbors got to hear Gods Hates Us All yesterday, one of their greatest albums, but then again all their albums are amazing
Hahaha right?
You should fucking listen to Slayer often.
FUCKING SLAYER!!!!

FUCKING SLAYER!!!!!!
fuck yeah brother this album was great for sure!
Seasons in the Abyss is one of the greatest albums of all time. 🤘
Never gets old listening from beginning to end
This song came out in 1990... it was a period when Slayer's career was peaking, scoring 3 gold-selling records in a row (a 4th gold record in 1994).
Personally, I think the Seasons in the Abyss album is Slayer's best.
Seasons was the best, I agree. I really liked Divine Intervention and Reign in Blood, also
South of heaven for me
@@jamesdavisjr6937 That was a good album, tru nuff
The album that took my Slayer virginity😂. It had songs I could Digest, at that part of my life. My journey into metal has been small steps all the time into Heaier and heavier music.
I agree as well. It's the most emotional and driving album! As much as I loved Rein In Blood and South of Heaven, this just totally moshed.
I remember when this came out and they toured the "Clash of the Titan's" tour. Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Alice In Chains opening up!!!! What a show!!!!
Same here. I saw that tour in Sacramento. Slayer killed it. They were all great, but I think Slayer slayed the hardest.
I saw that tour in Portland, Maine. Awesome! Megadeth was a huge disappointment, but it was my first time hearing Alice in Chains and that was a pleasant surprise!
Same. Lucky enough to see it at Red Rocks.
suicidal tendencies had replaced slayer when i saw that tour but yes-freaking awesome tour groundbreaking as well it proved that metal was able to draw big audiences
Alpine Valley Wisconsin.. killer show
Part of that riff is exactly like Hell Awaits.
The lyrics are excellent, and accurate, even more today than when this dropped.
You either love or hate Slayers solos. They often play out of key, I feel like they do this to increase the tension.
Start in key, end in key. The middle is a free-for-all, lol. 🤘🏼
Jeff had some great solos, but Kerry plays awful solos

This is actually a groovy riff. Pretty haunting though.
One of the many greats by SLAAAAAAYYYYYEEEEERRRRR!!!!!! Seen the title and knew Lex would love it.
I knew Lex would like this song. She's all about chunky thrash riffs. She's a thrasher at heart.
I was fortunate enough to see Slayers final NY area show at Madison Square Garden in November of 2019
Best slayer song and it’s somehow criminally underrated

I LOVE watching you Lex. You have so much fun and appreciate the music so much. You're both awesome.
FINALLY! This is my favorite song out of Slayer's entire discography, glad to see you guys listen to it
This whole album is perfect, it has harmonies, agression, is heavy, fast, you name it. 👌
This whole album is great , one of my favorites
One time I was listening to Slayer. My neighbor threw a brick through my window so they could hear it better
This is the first SLAYER song I ever heard. Been my favorite band ever since.
There's NOTHING ON EARTH quite like the actual physical experience of being at or in a Slayer show ! I got to see them in Vancouver British Columbia with Anthrax, Testament, Lamb Of God and Behemoth. 😁
✌❤🇨🇦
I saw them when they were still wearing makeup.
@@Greg-om2hb Awesome 😆✌❤🇨🇦
I seen the same line up in Syracuse it was fantastic
@Master Kush Same ! Kicked ass in Vancouver however Slayer's pit was insane ! The WHOLE floor.
@Master Kush definitely.
I wish Slayer had performed 'Skeletons of society' when I saw them over 6 times in concert... 🤘🤘🔥🔥They never did ☹but they might have on occasion...

Love this. I remember doing this song in the early 90's in my metal years. Still pull out my Charvel Jackson once in a while and rip...
This album is the easiest for folks to get into as it’s much slower paced overall. Reign in blood is my favorite, tho it’s not for the faint of heart
I love Reign in Blood....but my homie loved seasons...r.i.p.herman
Slayer had said that after Reign. They had to go slower. Cause they couldn't go faster lol
love it! Intro always get me going
If I remember correctly, this song was based on the novel, Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon.

Slayer solos are unorthodox. And meant to be so. They're meant to sound tormented chaotic and evil like some of the subject matter.
