I was in my room once jamming to Metallica Master of Puppets. My roommate walked in. He didn't know Metal at all. He listened to Christian rock. So there I am jamming. Then they get to the slow part in the middle. Then when they started jamming again, he asked "Didn't they just do this song?" I said "Still the same song. Just a different---." I stammered for a moment trying to think of a word, and came up with "---movement. " That's the moment when I realized Metalica needed to play with a symphony someday. And several years later, they did!😁😜
@My Dixie Wrecked I agree. Kirk fits perfectly with thrash and Metallica. Kirk has always been one of my favorites, and when I started listening to music I couldn't imagine a more talented guitarist. As I listened to more music and learned more about music I found other guitarists that I thought were slightly better in different ways. Tone, difficult chord shapes, innovation in song building, rhythm (there is a great part in Some Kind of Monster where James is trying to get Kirk to play a specific rhythm section and he can't get it, so they had to simplify it). Make no mistake that even after that Kirk is still one of my favorites, and always will be.
@My Dixie Wrecked ya there are a lot of lesser known guitarists that brought something innovative to the world, and they don't always get their due. I always thought Alex Lifeson and Peter Green should be better known. In the guitarists world they are, but not big names to broader audiences.
At 1:08 I knew she was feeling what I was feeling. I was just out for a walk with my headset on. Orion started playing. I completely zoned out into the world of Orion myself. As soon as I got home, I came on TH-cam to see if there were any reaction videos for this song. I was dying to see how others were feeling when they heard it. What a beautiful masterpiece! Thanks for the video, loved the reaction! Greetings from Finland.
In the dark, headphones on, trying to settle my brain on a school night and Orion pulls me into sleep... :) Metallica helped me survive high school lol
The solos are by Kirk (lead guitar) and Cliff (bass guitar). The bridge and the third "gtr solo" is Cliff's bass guitar. Cliff Burton (2/10/62 - 9/27/86 R.I.P.) was a genius and Metallica would not have made it without him. Burton-era Metallica (read: 1980s Metallica) is the real Metallica. "Orion" is a great choice. And yes, Kirk Hammett is a guitar Jedi and he does not get enough love.
@@aaronmullenix5409 Well then, very few people are as good at playing guitar as you are. Most aspiring beginner guitarists would need years to learn how to play like Kirk Hammett. Most would give up before they got close to that point. Sure, there are always exceptions but most would have a hard time even learning Hetfield's parts, never mind Hammett's.
This song is primarily written and driven by the original bass player, young prodigy and innovator Cliff Burton, who tragically died in a bus crash while touring this album in 1986. There are several guitar leads that are actually played on bass. An emotional masterpiece and possibly my favorite Metallica song. I always wished there were another 5 minutes.

Love your guys view and Lex's love of Metallica. To live is to die is a major underrated instrumental. It was Cliff Burtons final opus and was finished and dedicated to him in his honor. The band almost never plays it live.
Orion is a journey... You just need to close your eyes, and let everything go and just let the music carry you to where it will today... It will lead you places, different ones, whatever your subconscious props up at the time you listen to this. Lexie is so feeling this...
Lex always does it right. She would be the hot black chick at CBGBs that even skinheads ask her out. Culturally the net has made people listen to music that they would not normally listen too. And I got Bossa Nova collection too prove it. She just gets its it. Loosen up a bit Brad

All instrumentals of Metallica are great, show how talented they were and they are. Too bad they do not record instrumentals any more. Next on your list should be two masterpieces: "Call of Ktulu" and "To Live is to Die".
It's funny to watch Brad always staring at the monitor and reading lyrics while Lex is really rockin and enjoying the music. She has a broader taste in music than he does. He must be lost not having anything to read in this song
Cool to see Lex truly zone out when she was feeling it. In the world of Orion, no doubt. I could listen to this for a long time too. Takes me to another place for sure.
You're right about Kirk. Although it's undeniable that he's technically very good and a pretty fast guitar player, he's also known for not having a lot of feeling in his playing.
Bassist Cliff Burton wrote the music. He leads the song intdo . Then has a bass solo. Then after the break bass creeps in , then he leads the harmony before the guitar lead. He tuned his bass to sound more like heavy guitar.
Eres afortunado de tener una familia y una mujer tan hermosa. Ella es de mi familia musical. Ella cierra sus ojos y sólo escucha lo que dice cada instrumento y la realidad de letra
Love listening to that Bass growling at the start. Ahh the memories of 1986 when my friend walked into my room one day and asked me what I was listening to on my headphones. I said "this!" and handed my headphones and he was blown away.
Most songs are the kind that it’s like surfing, your putting all your energy into staying right with the song like on the edge of the wave. And some instrumentals are like that too when they have a single instrument voice that cuts through the other instruments to delivery a melody and there are times in Orion where the guitar or bass does that too but for the most part it is intended to be an experience of immersion. You just lay back in the ocean of music and let it flow around you. And the little interludes where one instrument cuts through are just currents in the water and you let them take you where they will. With pretty much any Metallica song, because the song is rooted in the repeating riff I find I can mentally decide to follow the lyric and stay on the edge of the song or let myself slip back into the music and let it flow over me. Such a talented band.
“It’s over?!” “Almost like freestyle.” She gets the song and my love. The bassist is a an actual legend, Cliff Burton. This song is about your own journey. Cosmic even. Have a drink and just chill. Great reaction.

If people would just listen to the album's for what it's worth they would find alot of amazing things in there so called shit albums. Death magnetic I loved. Unforgiven 3 is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
I used to listen to this song with headphones on when i would get back from running the streets with my gang to unwind and relax to sleep. Love watching Lex close her eyes and drift off to another place.
First - eyes closed with a smile, perfect. Second - song is sooo smooth, like butta. Third - WHAT?? How is Kirk not one of your top guitarist??? Who is above him, just curious.
Curious as well.
this song is about Cliff(alive at that time). James, Kirk and Lars let Cliff write a song and played around what he wrote
Metallica instrumentals are always cool. It's almost like classical music. 🙂
And several years later, they did!😁😜
Brad: *studying - Lex: *JAMMIN! 🤘🏽🤘🏽haha. Love this. Orion is such a wicked yet beautiful song that is sung by guitars, not a voice.
Bit surprised lex doesn’t rate Kirk that highly? He’s a brilliant guitarist.
Waiting for his solo EP!!
@@nuke2313 Yeah, he teams up with Barney the Purple Dinosaur for this one song. It’s positively RADICAL!!!
I mean he is just outside of my top 10, but not far outside. But for people who don't play guitar, I am curious who they put above him.
Metallica helped me survive high school lol
Lex + Orion = IN. THE. ZONE. ❤
I don't know buddy I was playing kirk solos after only one day of playing....he is influential but none of his stuff is very difficult to play
I always wished there were another 5 minutes.
one of my favorites from Metallica 🌻
Lex is vibing right from the first till the very last second, great to see People get caught up in this song.
I love listening to this song and just go wherever it takes me
Orion is the best-known constellation in the sky. It is also known as the Hunter. I symbolizes strength. The ancient Egyptians called her Osiris.
Been a while since I have been here. Congratulations on your new baby. God bless you both.
40 years of Metallica? Wow! I'm glad they're still going strong.
Closer to 50 by now, i think.
@@Followme556; I agree!
I hope they will continue as long as Rolling Stones did/do.
@@Followme556
Haha, no, it's 41 this year.
@@DerEchteBold LOL, ok. When you get old those years really start to blend together :D
And all metal fans say FINALLY!!!!!!!!!
Orion is a constellation of stars. I imagine space and stars being born. No lyrics, how did Brad survive? Metallica plays this one alot at live shows too. So dope. Get into it.
Finally!! I've been waiting a long time for this band y'all did not disappoint. Great reaction!!!
Kirk is in each and every one of them ! Give the guy some credit for his playing ;)
Phenomenal piece of music. One of my all time favourites. So many times I've heard this and it still gives me chills and gets me choked up. Can't explain it. This one is just the best.
“It didn’t really pull me in” Just like all the Metal songs you review...
Long live Lex!!
I just watch these solely for Lex at this point. I've long since given up on Brad. I held out hope for him, but that one comment confirms it.
@@ericjauregui3089 Some of his lyric interpretations are spot on, for that I give him credit, but I think his downfall is sitting next to someone who has the hype and excitement FOR the song. He shows no emotion, looks confused when listening to complex time changes and face melting solos, has very awkward pause moments that are absolute kill joys.. I mean, who in their right would pause during a guitar solo?....
Box of Rocks Brad.....that’s who...He is a real nice guy...but he’s a swing and a miss when it comes to Rock and Metal.
Lex smiles, shows interest, and just grooves on songs.....
Love your guys view and Lex's love of Metallica. To live is to die is a major underrated instrumental. It was Cliff Burtons final opus and was finished and dedicated to him in his honor. The band almost never plays it live.
That was like classical meets metal - Shame Brad can’t lock into what the music is doing
Orion is a journey... You just need to close your eyes, and let everything go and just let the music carry you to where it will today... It will lead you places, different ones, whatever your subconscious props up at the time you listen to this. Lexie is so feeling this...
Brad, Brad, Brad....love you but....just feel it. Not every song needs to be decompartmentalised. Lex does it right :)
They are the perfect ying and yang
Lex always does it right. She would be the hot black chick at CBGBs that even skinheads ask her out. Culturally the net has made people listen to music that they would not normally listen too. And I got Bossa Nova collection too prove it. She just gets its it. Loosen up a bit Brad
Brad is boring
@@gthewolf7948 Nah, he's just on a different level when listening to music. He's analyzing the music and I totally get it.
@@emtallmoose9436 Actually, yes. That's exactly what I thought he was doing. Guess I was wrong.
Watching Lex hear/feel that sweet melody sent chills down my spine the entire time. These reaction videos are brilliant; they make me feel like I’m listening for the first time too; only difference is I know when the good parts are coming up!
All instrumentals of Metallica are great, show how talented they were and they are. Too bad they do not record instrumentals any more. Next on your list should be two masterpieces: "Call of Ktulu" and "To Live is to Die".
"Maybe I like Metallica for the GUITARS." Now THAT'S a statement 👍👍
Oh wow, finally :)
Brad getting trolled by the "Lyric video" in the original stream, way back when, was hilarious.
IKR!
5:26 LEX's EYES ARE PRETTY EVEN WHEN THEY'RE CLOSED. LUCKY BRAD!

One of the best of all time
It's funny to watch Brad always staring at the monitor and reading lyrics while Lex is really rockin and enjoying the music.
What? 😆 His solos are his feelings. And he's a great story teller within the song.
@@tallycahamuhlhetru26 no one is talking about his feelings, we're talking about playing with feeling.
Finally! Took you guys long enough. 😆 I only wish I had caught this reaction live. Now you have to react to Metallica's other instrumentals.
“It’s over?!” “Almost like freestyle.”
She gets the song and my love.
The bassist is a an actual legend, Cliff Burton. This song is about your own journey. Cosmic even. Have a drink and just chill.
Great reaction.
Lex...great reaction. Out of this world. You were great. It took you beyond this world
"i left" best compliment ever..music is supposed to sweep you away, it is the universal language. love ya guys
I love her smile as this song rocks. That is a thing of beauty.
Was about to log off for the night but I had to check out this instrumental and Lex's reaction to it. Seeing how much she vibes off the music, I knew she'd be digging this.
Did you guys know that the bassist Cliff was shredding his bass on that solo 2 minutes into the song.
So much Cliff it’s too great!
So glad you guys finally got to this, my favorite Metallica song. You insert the story based on your emotions that day. So it can be different every time you hear it.
My all time favorite of Metallica's...I can really relax to this one. It was also fun to do on Playstation 2.
Such a great song. Really takes me back to high school.
