I have a little thought on the end of that glass stepping stones game. What if the man actually already figured out which was the right glass to step on but just pretended he still needs time in order to stall and in the end only having enough time for only him to get across while Sang-woo, Gi-hun, and Sae-byeok die after the entire bridge explode. Yep, that could have been his strategy coz when Gihun asked him why he didn't share the details about his glasses expertise to the others he replied that why should he share those details as they themselves would have no hesitation in killing him at any given opportunity.

Rather than sitting around, wallowing in sadness, knowing he's about to die and spending his last few minutes in terror, Sang-Woo was giving Ali hope and a feeling of unity in his final moments. Remember when Sang-Woo told Ali to meet him again at a specific time? Well Sang-Woo turned in the marbles well before that time came, the only reason Ali even found out he'd lost was because the guard took so long to take him out and Ali had enough time to return to the meeting spot. If the guard had done his job as soon as Ali had lost (Like all the other guards did), he never would have known. The real villain of Sang-Woo and Ali's scene was the useless pink soldier who ruined Sang-Woo's dream of a quick and painless end for his new little brother.
but ali + saebyeok is still alive no one kkows how they survived but they are still alive it must of sae byeok diddnt get stabbed in the neck so far down and ali some how survived the shot
SANG WOO is actually my favorite character in the series, he was a great strategist, and the most realistic out of all the main characters, if you're in this type of game, your main instinct is always to survive, some people might think he's a traitor, but he was just doing everything he could so he wouldn't die, and that's why he lasted until the final game.. he's also the reason, they survive multiple times.. Remember in the 1st game, he even gave Gi-Han Strategy to survive.. Then when they got back outside, he was even to kind to give Ali money, even tough he's already broke.. 2nd game honeycomb, he was able to figure out the Honeycomb, but he's not exactly sure how the game actually works, so he decided for them to split up, the only problem with this is he didn't atleast inform his team that he think the game involves honeycomb. 3rd game Tug of War, he's actually the reason they won, the old guys strategy was good at the beginning, but didn't actually work to finish the game, so they tried Sang Woo's idea to step forward, and that's what made them win. 4th game The Marbles, this is the game where people started to really hate Sang Woo, because he tricked Ali, but no one is Judging Gi-Han, when he was decieving the old man, even tough they both betrayed their partners to survive. NOTE: there's no actual rule on how they should acquire the marbles, aside from no Violence, so basically there's no cheating for both Sang Woo and Gi-Han. 5th game, people was also angry at Sang Woo for pushing the glass maker, yet if he didn't push him, then they would all waste their time, and they'll all die in the bridge, he's basically the reason all 3 of them survive at the end. Next is after the dinner, this is the only thing I didn't like about Sang Woo, because she killed the Sae-byeok for no particular reason, since there's no reason for him to kill her since they're not yet fighting for survival, since they're not yet in the game. Last Game, the squid game he sacrifice himself so Gi-Han could win the game, since Gi-Han doesn't want to continue..
In the 4th game, yes Gi-hun deceived Il-Nam but it's not like he died. Plus he was already old so he would die inside or outside the game but Ali had a wife and a year-old baby who now have to survive by themselves. In the last game he did kill himself but he was already suicidal, plus it was so that his mother can be happy because if they chose to end the game he wouldn't be able to save his mother but he let Gi-Hun win so that he can take care of his mother with the money
@@vix_2good after he came back to his hometown and saw his mother. Sang Woo messed up but there is no other way for him to redeem and save his mother' house except winning the game.
He didn't kill himself cause he lost fair , he did it cause if they left with no money he would still be a dead man with debt and his mother in trouble . So he did it to get money to help his mother
I can't blame Sang-woo for betraying Ali because Sang-woo is the only person that knows Ali well Not only that it also proves that he wasn't afraid to die in last episode and wanted Gi-hun to help his mother because of his finacials.... If you people hate about sang-woo thats your opinion... But me... He does have a heart.....
I feel like videos and comments like these are needed, when watching you get a one sided perception of things but when you watch videos like these and read comments like these you get a feel for what it's like to see things through someone else's mind
People should stop calling him a monster. If he didn't have a heart, he would have stabbed Gi-hun in the back when he asked for help, and eliminate Sae-byeok so that his final challenge was easy.
If you'r in Sang Woo position. You would let Ali die to save your life too, so Indians here should stop being hypocrite. Its a game between death - live. Sang-woo is right.
Lmao if all he wanted to do was helping his mum why would he have put her property at risk with the bank? Why would he have committed fraud and steal so many ppl? It's easy to find him excuses in the game, but I don't think he ever was a good person. Not evil, but definitively not good. Also y'all forget squid game is a korean series and there is no such thing as individualism in Korea. It's all about the collective before oneself. In western countries it's easy to put ourselves in his shoes, but in South East Asia that's some fucked up behavior to act like he does throughout the show.
He's both sides. He killed Sae-byeok but also let Gi-hun win. He did apologize too and he only did it for his mother. He did help Sae-byeok end her suffering but he also commited murder. He couldn't think clearly so I understand why he did it. He isn't a villain but he isn't a hero either.
Sangwoo is a good player as he had killed himself at the end for his best friend, pushed off the player on the bridge if not they all die, killed Sae Byeok as she suffered and Ali he knew he wouldn’t make also knowing that he had to kill his new friend like his little brother
Before watching this video, I thought that Sang-woo was evil for his crimes but after watching this video I can understand his reasoning for killing Sae-Byeok.
Sae-Byeok was dying and in pain. As for Ali, if you were in his Sang-woo's position, you'd trick Ali to save your own life. Calling him "evil" is beyond dumb
Honestly, I would have acted like Sangwoo.. I’m sacrificing everyone that isn’t use to me. He was the only person who made good decisions, although I cried when Ali died we all know they’re is only ONE winner..
sis he was a good person from the first but when he killed ali then I felt he is a bad person and at the last when he gives Gi-Hun the win then I thought yes he is a good person he killed everyone for a reason
He is the best and in fact the most realistic character of them all. When I started watching the show I already knew all the bad things he will do and I thought I will hate him but he is the most relatable and had the best surviving skills of the main characters. I only heard about the bad things he did but no one ever told me how many good things he did for team and his mother too. He really quickly changed my mind and became my favourite character.
I agree to all your reasons except at 9:02 He did not want the games to continue when he proposed the consent clause, he wanted it to continue only after seeing the price money.
Bro what? He still wanted it to end though you're basically saying he wanted it to continue after seeing the prize money but he still wanted it to end. Plus who wouldn't continue after having years of depth. You either die out there or in here
He wanted not to die and to protect the person he loved most from despair. I think more of us would act like him then care to admit it. It’s easy to judge from the outside, but he was put in an impossible situation and forced to make a decision on that basis. So not a villain, nor a hero, just human: complicated. And that’s what made him a great character.
If Sang Woo was in Squid Game 2, I think he would've already figured out that player 001 was Frontman and maybe even help Jun Ho find the island. And based on his skill of finding out the honeycomb game before it started (maybe he did or he just had a hint of it) I think he would have already found the recruiter faster and also the island as well. Just my opinion, ig.
AND MAKE EVERYONE SAFE THATS WHY HE GAVE THE WIN TO GIN-HUN BECAUSE GIN-HUN NEEDIT MORE THAN HIM SO SANG-WOO IS A NICE MAN AND OUR TRUE HERO DON’T THINK SANG-WOO IS A VILLAIN
He has some sociopathic traits and I would definitely not describe him as selfless, this is a callous person who has a victim count, but I cannot condemn him for anything he did in the games. And I understand some of it what he did outside of it.
How is he sociopathic? Literally qny rational human being would behave like him In a death game.Literally none of us knows what we would do in a life or death situation with alot of strangers
@@hinamatsuro1908 Because he's a criminal, I don't know if you noticed. As I said, of course people will fight for themselves, but he was already natural at it.
@@LazarL because he does fraud hes a sociopath? Lmao. If he was then why would he think of suicide intead of taking other people's life? Why only after the game starts that he started killing? Why save Gihun in the first place? If hes selfish as you said then why concern about Ali a complete stranger & Gihun? Its clearly shown that he qenuinely felt bad doing what he did. He is just a very logical person with literally only one goal left to live. He was suicidal, his only pupose he has left was to prevent misfortune coming for his mother. Ali, Glass guy & Saebyeok was clearly the obstacle he has to go through if he wanted to help his mother. Otherwise theres no point he's there, all for absolultely nothing, he should have killed himself in the tub if if he had decided to not kill people that most likely gonna die anyway & throw the game. He did what he did to survive. Also he could've waited till the last 10 sec to push the glass guy & be the only survivor, yet he rushes it, letting people behind him pass as well. But he didnt cuz he still cares for Gihun as a friend.
@@Haz1Art Nothing he has ever done in that show was ever because he felt something for other people. He's a callous person, people are just an investment to him.
@@LazarL No, he truly does care for people. That's why he had doubts about not helping people (i.e. Honeycomb). In the long run, he did what we all would have tried to do: survive. He entered the game like everyone else, wanting to win and knowing he was gonna have to kill everyone. He just realized it before the others.
There are different personalities portrayed in the show. This is the rational character who sometimes does the necessary evil. Indeed, without him, the "good" characters wouldn't have finished. Ali wouldn't have the guts to push that glass man.
He was the MVP of the show. Did the dirty work for Gi Hun, told him to get up and start moving in game 1. Without Sang Woo Gi Hun doesn't even get saved by Ali. Sang Woo brought up the vote leading to 10+ people leaving and never going back to the game, they're still alive. If Sang Woo didn't think of that clutch move in tug of war or didn't push the glassmaker, everyone dies. Gi Hun winning with massive amounts of money and a vendetta against the games, and already taking one of the SG cards means 1 more life saved, and many more to be saved, arguably because of Sang Woo.
I wouldn't call Sang Woo a hero lol, he was an antagonist/anti-hero but a very well written one with an understandable motive. I like him because of his depth, and he got hotter the more ruthless and bloodier he got 🔥 And he let Gi Hun win to help his mom which was a nice redeeming moment for him. I'm going to miss him in S2.
I don't think that he's evil, bc even tho he betrayed Ali in the marbles game, he didnt had much of a choice. One of them had to die! So he is just a human who made many mistakes but I wouldn't consider him a hero nor a villain! I'd say that he is a good person who just chose the wrong path
He is helpful in ep 1 but in ep 2 he understands there will be only one winner so you see in ep 3 that he doesn't want to be the one to kill his friend but wont save him anymore.
You can't judge a person's morals in an extreme, crazy and surrealistic context like they faced, I'm convinced he was a good man who cared for the ones he loved but made wrong decisions along the way, paying for Ali's bus and telling him to call him big bro is a reflection of that, he just didn't see any other option but win and that's why he did all he did, even in the end, he could very well say he surrenders and live and go home with nothing, he would live, yes, but the people he cared about would suffer, in a selfless act he took his life as he knew 456 would take care of his mom, thus achieving his goal
I still think hes evil, after all he did 1) he killed player 067 when she could have been saved 2) he pushed someone in the glass bridge game 3) he tricked Ali and made him die 4) HES JUST NOT NICE
also the fact that they didnt know what games they would be playing in the 4th game shows that he wasnt planning on betraying Ali anytime soon, if he knew, i think he would have chosen a different person
He still killed himself to allow Gi-hun to win, and as a final wish asked him to use some of his prize money to help his mother. Saying he’s more “rational” than “emotional” seems off because of that
Honestly him pushing the man on the glass and him killing Sae-Byeok wasn’t that huge of a problem. But what he did to Ali, and especially when he pretty much tried to kill his team in the Dalgona game was evil.
If i were in sangwoo position, i would do the same as he did, except in the honeycomb game, i would tell the others because it's too early to loose ally. Or maybe he already figure out that evantually in the end there's may only 1 winner, so he tought better his friend/ally died in the game that not by his hand. In situation like in that game, which the only matter is life & death, not only for sangwoo, but for every each player, there is no right-wrong / good-bad anymore. If play the game & did what sangwoo did & win the game, would i felt : Guilty? Maybe Ashamed? Maybe Sad? Maybe But i will feel all that negative feeling by... Living l my life ...
The tenth point is wrong too, because he stood up for everyone because at this point it was not clear whether if there is really money to win, or if all of this is not a scam in the end, he proposed to end the game because he really wanted to end the game just like everyone else after the reveal of the death game, but just like most of the others he remade up his choice when the guards showed the money after sangwoo reminded them that they can vote to end this and before they actually could vote, so if sangwoo had saw the money before he reminded everyone that they can vote to end the death game, im sure he would have been silent so that the games could go on and he could win the money, so the tenth point is invalid too
0:18 He didn’t just kill himself because he lost the game fair and square, he saw Gi-Hun trying to save him, realized that he could trust Gi-Hun to take care of his mother. That’s why his dying words to Gi-Hun were: “My mom..” He was someone who saw ‘the end justifies the means’. I see all of his attempts to indirectly kill Gi-Hun (including the Dagona Honeycomb game) as himself trying to not be the one to have to kill Gi-Hun. He would have rather they die off to someone else, away from where he could see. Sang-woo was an anti-villain, he was in just as miserable of a place as any of them were. Real villain would be Oh Il-Nam and the VIPs. Squid Game does a very good job of portraying the blurred line of good and evil, sometimes, evil can do good and good can do evil. Il-nam had a twisted way of loving his game but he was also considerate of the participant’s freedom of choice (That’s why he pressed the button to let them all go home). Sang-woo loved his mother very much and did not want to drag her down with him, so he was willing to go to hell to get them money, even if it might mean being indirectly responsible for his friend’s death. Gi-Hun is the only whose morals remains consistent, never being warped by the game’s twisted ways. Willing to throw away the money that could save his own mother so his friend could live.
He tried to kill himself which is a huge sin and entered a death game instead of facing his mom so he would rather die than spend the rest of his life with his maybe heartbroken mom
I never hated Sangwoo. If he was really evil, Sangwoo would have stabbed Gihun in the last episode. Sangwoo just had to survive in Marble episode. Gihun also cheated and left the old man yet calling Sangwoo heartless on Glass episode. Because of the time Sangwoo rlly had to push that guy...🙄
It's actually messed up that each player was gaslit into believing only 1 player could win the grand prize, but never once did any of them consider there could be multiple winners.
Mind you all, this dude could've actually won the squid games. But he was selfless in the end despite he let himself win those other games. He cared about his only friend
@@aribwaqasbarlas kid srsly mate I really don’t give a shit about someone tellin me about why he did that to Ali i am just rlly sad and I think it’s normal doesn’t mean ur a kid like grow up 🆙
These are very good points, but I still think Sang-Woo is EVIL. First of all, when he "saved" the team in tug of war, he could've been doing it for himself. If the team died, he died as well. And still, killing Sae-Byeok was wrong. She could've survived and gone to a doctor once the games were over. Sang-Woo should've given her more of a chance. Plus, on that glass bridge when he "saved" everyone by killing the man in front of him, he still probably did it for himself. If the man didn't decide at all, Sang-Woo would've died as well. If Sang-Woo really was a hero, I feel like he should've gone in front of the man instead of pushing him. When Sang-Woo killed himself in the final game, he probably knew that he wouldn't survive anyway. If he did, he'd have to tell his mother where the prize money came from, thus leading to the fact that he'd have to admit to her that he was in debt. Lastly, Sang-Woo betrayed Ali, he still did it for himself. I see that he offered the marble to Ali, but when Ali refused, Sang-Woo must've thought that Ali wanted Sang-Woo to win instead of him, or something like that. And yes, he did bond with Ali, which makes the betrayal even worse since I'm sure no one would do that to their close friend. (Man, I feel like I wrote an entire essay XD) I can see that Sang-Woo has human qualities and wanted Gi-hun to help his mother, but that's still no excuse for what he did.
Ok but tbh I would’ve done the same thing cus only one person can win through the end. How is it selfish for him saving his team in tug of war only for “himself “ when they’re all fighting for survival for also themselves? Doesn’t that make them all selfish ?
Let me be honest. What sang woo did still did benifit others and the reason he killed himself is because he REGRETS everything he did. He knows what he did was wrong. But he is the most realistic character.

TRUE
I LOVE YOU FOR THIS
In the 4th game, yes Gi-hun deceived Il-Nam but it's not like he died.
I think he killed Sae-byeok because he was worried Gi-hun would ask to vote to stop the game.

Sang woo was the most realistic written person the whole series
I can't blame Sang-woo for betraying Ali because Sang-woo is the only person that knows Ali well
Not only that it also proves that he wasn't afraid to die in last episode and wanted Gi-hun to help his mother because of his finacials....

I feel like videos and comments like these are needed, when watching you get a one sided perception of things but when you watch videos like these and read comments like these you get a feel for what it's like to see things through someone else's mind
Ya right
People should stop calling him a monster.

He is the walking logic
If Sang Woo was in Squid Game 2, I think he would've already figured out that player 001 was Frontman and maybe even help Jun Ho find the island. And based on his skill of finding out the honeycomb game before it started (maybe he did or he just had a hint of it) I think he would have already found the recruiter faster and also the island as well. The Glassmaker kinda got what he deserved for letting everyone die just so the competition would thin out.
There are different personalities portrayed in the show. This is the rational character who sometimes does the necessary evil. Indeed, without him, the "good" characters wouldn't have finished. Ali wouldn't have the guts to push that glass man.
What an actor, when Ali was shot, you could just see his eyes and feel the guilt.

I'm going to miss him in S2.
I have a theory made by myself that why sang woo killed sae byeok....maybe sae byeok told him to kill her as she was suffering much.

I don’t think he’s dead.
@@marioman1995 who?
Sang-woo Thank You For Everything 🤜🤛🥺.

Sang woo - my life is ruined and my days are done.
He's a good person that decided to act evil in order to win, also because he is more rational than emotional.
He still killed himself to allow Gi-hun to win, and as a final wish asked him to use some of his prize money to help his mother. Saying he’s more “rational” than “emotional” seems off because of that
Anyone else theorize sang woo actually was a winner who came back to the games like gihun in the second season?
Nah, "hero" is grossly overused and particularly an overstatement for Sangwoo.
Imagine people can fight their opponent in the fourth game, Ali Abdul will win, he can hold Seong Gi-hun with only 3 fingers
I wouldn’t call him a hero. Neither would I call him good or evil. He’s just good and evil.
Anti hero
If play the game & did what sangwoo did & win the game, would i felt :
Guilty? Maybe
Ashamed? Maybe
Sad? Maybe
But i will feel all that negative feeling by... Living l my life ...
I’m not even saying he’s evil but we ain’t gonna talk about honeycomb 😂😂😂
After seeing his all bad work I didn't even hate him a little. But when I see your video I was really happy .🙂
The tenth point is wrong too, because he stood up for everyone because at this point it was not clear whether if there is really money to win, or if all of this is not a scam in the end, he proposed to end the game because he really wanted to end the game just like everyone else after the reveal of the death game, but just like most of the others he remade up his choice when the guards showed the money after sangwoo reminded them that they can vote to end this and before they actually could vote, so if sangwoo had saw the money before he reminded everyone that they can vote to end the death game, im sure he would have been silent so that the games could go on and he could win the money, so the tenth point is invalid too
Yes I like what he did to sae byeok because I also thought that she was gonna die in blood loss and the guards would never help her
0:18
He didn’t just kill himself because he lost the game fair and square, he saw Gi-Hun trying to save him, realized that he could trust Gi-Hun to take care of his mother. That’s why his dying words to Gi-Hun were: “My mom..”
He was someone who saw ‘the end justifies the means’.
Sang woo only want happy life with his mother that's why he do that all
He’s not a hero, he’s not a villain, he’s just a neutral character.
Now i think sang woo hyung is a good person~
Basically if you hate sang woo , you're indirectly hating most of humanity, maybe even yourself
His actions seem completely justified, and any sane and wise person would think about saving themselves when stuck In a life or death situation
He tried to kill himself which is a huge sin and entered a death game instead of facing his mom so he would rather die than spend the rest of his life with his maybe heartbroken mom
I had to watch Squid Game a second time to understand that Sang Woo wasn’t that bad

he did what it took to win. That is logical, and people don't like him because he isn't emotional(doesn't let his feelings hinder him).
(Man, I feel like I wrote an entire essay XD)
I can see that Sang-Woo has human qualities and wanted Gi-hun to help his mother, but that's still no excuse for what he did.
Ok but tbh I would’ve done the same thing cus only one person can win through the end. How is it selfish for him saving his team in tug of war only for “himself “ when they’re all fighting for survival for also themselves? Doesn’t that make them all selfish ?
saebyeok couldve died anyways
Let me be honest. What sang woo did still did benifit others and the reason he killed himself is because he REGRETS everything he did. He knows what he did was wrong. But he is the most realistic character.
