That's not a pun. Unless you're referencing needing all 180 Red Star Rings to unlock all 21 Game Land Special Stages, which, in turn, is the only way to play as Super Sonic, THEN it's a pun.
Super late comment but here it goes. I’ve completed the game, the only achievements left are for 100% in each locations. Oddly whenever I try to pick up a colour (drill,spikes, missile etc) it doesn’t pick them up. Any thoughts on why?? As mentioned I’ve completed the game so I don’t know why.
Don't bother. You won't get S ranks with Super Sonic. You have to get wisps etc. It's very hard to get S ranks in this game. Getting all S ranks does nothing in this game. I wouldn't even bother if I were you.

Because I have the first two levels for each emerald yet for the green emerald it only shows the first two acts even though I’ve collected all the red rings in Tropical Resort.

How do I drill into the ground .? Is it a skill you unlock throughout the game . I tried doing this on first play through but the only color I used so far is green
you have to beat the game first to get the wisps. You'll see wisps over acts as you play the game. When you beat a level with a wisp on top in the world map, they will be unlocked in every world.

this is a late comment but thats probally because you have super sonic mode on which will disable them
The most boring part would be the Wisp usage to net up points, wasting time etc.. But thanks for the guide still !

Yes! Play Sweet Mountain Act 1, and you'll unlock the yellow wisp!

You have to beat the whole game. Each wisp can be unlocked after beating a specific level from the other locations on the map
