I have loved the organ since I was very young and especially JS BACH, I just came across you and I won't hide from you that it was a surprise, you are incredible and you play like the best organists in the world, I am signing up to your account that's for sure and I am already looking forward to continuing to listen to you. Bravo you are a very very great musician and what's more without any scores it is simply exceptional...
How can you call yourself a non-professional when you memorise and execute these masterworks so.. masterfully? Well done! I hope we see you on some actual pipes someday.
I was told as a child this was the most challenging piece of organ music there is. If so you made it seem effortless. I loved how you kept the sense of the gravity of the theme throughout the piece. Thank-you so much.
Yes! smooth beginning in Karl Richters Piano version makes sense to enrollment of greatness of this Masterpiece, Tempi and atmosphere is brilliant, Bravo!
Perfect tempi throughout, and such a clear, clean rendition. I usually get caught up in "bigger is better" for this piece, but I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. It's literally the only performance I've ever liked that didn't have 32' reeds, lol.
Thoughly enjoyed your performance. I've heard a number of organists perform this masterpiece I particularly like to hear different interpretations ie the way the performer thinks the piece ought to be played. Thank you for your work.
One of my favourite Bach's pieces, I must admit that I prefer this passacaglia a bit more agressive with deeper bass, but fugue was just perfect. Can't wait to hear your next performance.
Thank you for this Xavier, so pleased you did get round to this work before your retirement. I'm sure we all hope you gained satisfaction from mastering it. But how to follow it...?
The "retirement" thing was a joke ;-) Just waited for the right moment with lots of free time to study the piece. I also felt that now my technique has reached a point where it's not going to improve very much any more, so why wait any longer ?
Hi Xavier, I've been a fan of yours for a long time, but in this performance I hear little bass, especially at the beginning, I hear it more in the phrasing around minute 6. In general, I hear a prevalence of voices played with the keyboard over those played with the pedal. If you search Karl Richter's 1969 performance on TH-cam, you can hear an opposite approach, with much more bass, but the high vocals are less clear. I don't know if this is a sampleset limitation or your musical choice, and I'd like to hear your feedback? You can answer in French, I understand that, but I'm not so sure about writing in French.
I think that the speakers and headphones I use for mastering are too good. It doesn't seem to lack of bass for me, but maybe it is also because I am used to the sound of that sampleset. It is very bright and indeed, the Subass 16 is maybe a little soft in the overall balance. Of course it gets better when the Posaune is pulled. I am not much of a sound engineer either ;-)
Your playing is flawless, but why so little bass? Edit: I did not mean to sound disparaging. This is a monumental achievement and I just wanted to enjoy it with the bone- rattling bass I associate with this work.
Thanks for the feedback. Just curious : what kind of speakers or headphones do you use ? It doesn't seem to lack of bass to me (considering the general brightness of this sampleset and the fact that it has only 1 subass 16 and 1 posause 16). I know it's a little "light" for that kind of piece, but it suits my taste and my 2-keyboards setup.
@W Gremen C'est aussi, et de loin, ma préférence : il faut sentir une progression sur l'ensemble de la passacaille, avec les quelques moments de détente dans les arpèges légers du centre.

Finally! I've always wondered when you're going to play this fantastic piece. Excellent performance!

Einfach nur schön und perfekt
Xavier, God bless you!

The sheer power and majesty of this piece is breathtaking, especially on the Hauptwerk at Obervellach. An incredible interpretation!
Perfect tempi throughout, and such a clear, clean rendition. I usually get caught up in "bigger is better" for this piece, but I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. It's literally the only performance I've ever liked that didn't have 32' reeds, lol.
Superb

A perfect setting of what I think is Bach's best composition. Thank you Xavier
Awesome! Specially on this small sampleset :)
