TellTell games is no longer a company and fired almost all of there employees( I heard this from pewdiepie so if its wrong blame him) you should be talking about that instead of a game that died out a long time ago
For me, I had the entire Rock Band kit on Xbox 360.... but then the PS4 came out and that was my main system of choice... and there was no way I was going to re-buy all of that equipment again for a new system as well as all those old songs I had purchased separately
After the 360 I got Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live Then I discovered Clone Hero on the PC and now the PS4 games have been collecting dust because I've got over 3000 songs to play on PC you should check it out its pretty awesome
As a child who grew up with mostly hip-hop music, GH introduced me to so much music and broadened my taste. Grateful for video games in general for having diverse soundtracks
Activision needs to make one last Guitar hero put all of the games in one for the PS5/XBOX/PC expected guitar hero live and dj hero keep that in the garbage bin i wouldnt mind paying 60 dollars for that game and a new guitar controller that doesn't have 3 bottons But Imagine how many songs would we be able to play and guitar hero in 4K
No matter what people say, I love Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I played it for like two hours yesterday, I love Rock music and there's a lot of great songs you can play in a lot of the games. Guitar hero is so fun to me and I'll probably keep playing it or modded versions of it on PC for a long time.
I keep a PS3 literally just to play DJ Hero 1 and 2 and I have two controllers and 2 copies of each game just encase something breaks. And I also download Far Cry 3 blood dragon every chance I get.
Tronikk I got rock band 4 recently cause I missed playing guitar hero on the wii. I love playing it cause not only does it have some of my favorite songs I find new songs to enjoy
They should release a giant Guitar Hero game on XB1 and PS4 bundling multiple games in one. The only problem would probably be the music licensing I imagine.
@@Mason15858 Just got a xbox 360 wireless one for $15 from a arcade / console seller store and it works 100%. Now waiting on my receiver to play clone hero since my 360 copy of gh3 is scratched
I'm so thankful for Rock Band. Before that series, outside of clarinet ( which I was bad at ), I had no musical talent. I remember when I first started Rock Band, I had no rhythm. But over time, I got better and better at the drums, playing on expert. Fast forward to now. I've been in a few different bands, released an album earlier this year, and even played with Anti-Flag two weeks ago. I don't think I'd be a musician if those games hadn't inspired me.
@Rex Erection I doubt it can teach you guitar entirely. But it will help with fingering positions. Check out Rock Smith though! It allows you to use your actual bass or guitar and learn.
RockBand 4 is far from dead. Stil one of my most played games. Just passed 950 songs in my collection. Harmonix is also actively working to bring Rockband network artists back to Rockband 4.
Guitar Hero died because Activision forced Neversoft to release way too many games in a short amount of time which over saturated the market. The reason why GH Live didn't do well is because it was a passionless cash grab. Neversoft made guitar so amazing because of the genuine love and passion they put into the series. Rock Band isn't dead yet. The future doesn't look good for it but I can't see Harmonix letting go of it that easily. They love Rock Band as much as Neversoft loved Guitar Hero. They comunity has now flocked to a fan-made game called "Clone Hero" which is the perfect Rock Band/ Guitar Hero game. Considering you can even make and download your own songs for it, I think the community is gonna live on for a while. Also DJ Hero was fucking fantastic.
you're right about too many GH games being made too quickly It seemed when a new Gh game was made by the time I got to get good at certain songs on hard there was a new game coming out in about 2 months time start playing metallica and nailing down some songs at 100% hit oh look now there's a van halen game out in 3 months from now
I got my kids Rock Band 2 for Christmas the year it came out. They played it for a while, then moved on to other games. I got behind the drum kit and was instantly hooked. So much so that I now play real drums. Even funnier is that I wrote an Android app that mimics the "note scroll" in RB for drums; this is still how I learn to play new songs on my acoustic kit. I "chart" a new song using the Reaper app with the Custom RB3 template, export it to a midi file, and my Android app reads this midi file. It syncs it to the mp3 of the original song and the notes scroll by as the song plays just like the RB game. It really helps with the muscle memory when learning a new groove. I can even set specific start and end points in a song and it will loop. I'm an old guy (mid 50s) and would have never started playing drums without RB. And playing drums in a band with other musicians is easily the most fun I ever had. Sounds corny, but playing in a band is pure joy. Never would have happened if it weren't for RB.
Hello Paul, I also got hooked on playing the drums this way. I now use a v-drums kit hooked up to RB3 and play all the time. Would you share your experience with the Android app you wrote? It sounds like just the thing I'm looking for.
Yes, please elaborate more on how you're doing this. I started playing RB4 drums a couple of years ago and loved it so much that I purchased a Roland V-drum setup. I don't know how to connect it to the game, so I just let the game run on the song, and I play the drums along with it. But I'd love to have another option like you have been doing. :)
I need a "note scroll app"! I played a little drums before RB but once I was hooked on RB drum I had to have a real kit. I owned an acoustic set for a number of years after that and I have just recently moved on to a new set of e-drums. So far I've only really just jammed along to songs that I like on TH-cam. A note scroll set up would really push me forwards faster into learning new songs!
Unfortunately, my Android app is really quite a bit away from being ready for prime time. The biggest issue is exactly the issue that RB content creators have to deal with: "charting" the song. I actually use the same tools that RB3 content creators use, which is mainly the Reaper Digital Audio Workstation app for Windows. Someone (possibly Harmonix) created a project template that makes it "easier" to plop down the different instrument notes for a particular song, but it still takes me a couple hours to "chart" a song. And it isn't enough to just add notes. You first have to go through the whole song and adjust where each measure starts and ends. This will be somewhat easy when the song was originally recorded with the musicians (or at least the drummer) was playing along with a click track. But especially on older stuff, the songs tempo is all over the place. So charting a song is pretty difficult, and me actually sharing songs that I've charted for myself would likely lead to all sorts of legal issues. If there was a way to "feed" a song to some sort of app that could pick out the different instruments on a drum kit, then it would make sense to release my app. But I think it's safe to say that there really isn't a reliable way to automate the song charting process. What might make more sense is to do something that apps like Ultimate Guitar does, but with RB-style note presentation. I'm talking about how in Ultimate Guitar you can load drum tabs/sheet music for a song and have it play the midi-instrument version of the song. I'm sure it would be annoying as hell to play along with midi instruments, but if your goal is to learn a song it might be worth it.
that had many great tracks unlike warriors or rock which great tracks I think was a bit too metal focuses ( love metal but just didn't span on other genres much ) GH 3 nailed things right covering bands from 70's - early 2000's
DAN[GER] sports games will always sell well especially with a brand the size of Fifa. They must be doing something right otherwise people wouldn’t still buy them
It help push me to play guitar for real. I was exposed to music I didn't normally listen to. I stopped playing Guitar Hero, because playing real guitar was more fun.
I think it was the price of the peripherals. you can get any of the games for under 5 bucks but even finding the controllers to play with is incredibly difficult, and usually when you find them they're super expensive, at least as far as games go. So the cost and lack of supply makes it impossible for new players to get into it.
Agreed. Even just a year after rock band 4 came out it was almost impossible to find anymore peripherals, and if you did it was third parties selling them at ridiculous prices. It sucks cause the instruments will break eventually and when that happens I guess no more rock band.
I can't find any Xb360 guitar controllers and the games manage to be hard to find in 2nd hand game shops because of how popular they are. Like I was looking for GH Metallica and Warriors of rock (for Megadeth) but I can't find either anymore because they sell quickly.
My best friend and I almost got the 14 hour long achievement on rock band 3 by playing every single song back to back on expert mode without failing. Made it to the last 3 songs. That was a helluva good night, even though we never got that achievement.
@@afrocoolio25 it is amazing. Some say you can "Learn guitar" but that's a bit of a stretch to me. They take away notes from the song and as you progress with it they add more. At the end you are playing the whole song and then they procced to take away the notes in game and you have to play by memory. It's honestly really good, but the cable is almost 35 dollars and they break fast. A bummer they don't let you use normal cables
@@afrocoolio25 it does work. You can use an acoustic guitar with a microphone. It measures the pitches. The thing is that they probably use the cable to protect their ip. There used to be a no cable mod, where you could use any cable out it got patched out. Now the only way to play electric without the cable is mic on amp cabinet.
I got both Rocksmiths and lost interest pretty quickly. Although it was fun I just preferred playing my guitar on its own. Also, I’ve been playing the guitar for a few years and still can’t pay attention to the screen and accurately slide my hand down the fret board to the proper fret.
yea Dead Space 1 and 2 were amazing...Dead Space 3 was shit in comparison. that stupid co op nonsense and making your own weapons, 3rd person shooter sections etc yawn... Wish they would just remaster 1 & 2 tbh
Idk who thought it'd be a good idea to include co op in a survival horror game which some missions and 100% completion is depended on trying to find someone to play dead space...ugh not only that they made it more action oriented like uncharted with many qte's and it's still good just idk why the fuck they would be doin all that I loved dead space
ya I never really enjoyed dead space 3. I was a bit annoyed that they added so many fights against people in it. I enjoyed it because you fought aliens. I don't want it to feel like a war game. Number 3 just didn't have the same horror feeling as the others.
I had some friends over recently to play Rock Band and let me tell you, that experience is still as great as it was back in the day. But despite RB4 being available with just the guitar, it is nigh impossible to find a working drumset for certain consoles without shelling out huge bucks on eBay. Regarding the video, I think all of that is all true, combined with how often the hardware (especially drums) sadly falls apart, and of course takes up space (it's substantial!). Combine that with a serious lack of forward compatibility in new consoles... I'm sad that Rock Band 4 failed to ever be released on PC, because I think there would be a certain compatibility there that would help drive forward consumer trust. There might be some argument that people are more interested in online play than actually interacting in person, too, but I think there will always be a steady contingent of college kids sharing apartments that could use a set.

"Nobody likes to play the same game every year." Have you heard of... F I F A? Great video. I remember having so much fun with GH3 and, later, in Rock Band 2, I bought an used drum set and was one of the most fun things, ''playing'' songs that I loved to hear was awesome. It even led me to learn real drums and play/practice for almost 2 years. After Rock Band 3, my ''control drum'' died and, as you said in the video, those things were expensive and I was leaving real drums aside as well as the gaming one. Good memories.
That's how I learned to play bass! Now I've been in 3 bands and have written 2 albums. One of our bands qualified for a battle of the bands and I got to play in Hard Rock Biloxi!
Micah Miranda It was pretty damn popular for people who A. Play guitar already. or B. Were desperate to learn how. It satisfied both niches pretty well...it's fun. Also, you need to get the PC/mac version, then you can download/unlock thousands of custom DLC songs for free. There's an entire community dedicated to it. I created a few songs myself, and even wrote blog posts teaching others how to do the same...you can download pretty much any song you could imagine. As for why the last one was in 2014...it was basically revolutionary, nothing else like it existed. They might have even released a new one since then, I haven't followed it for awhile so I don't know, but they definitely will soon regardless...it's not going away haha. So...maybe reconsider?
are you talking about GH live and their terrible plays system on gh tv or the rock band dlc cause honestly the pricing for DLC for rock band is still pretty good especially considering how much money it costs them to license the song
it really isn't they are already giving you a lot of songs (over 65 if you get rock band 4 rivals). expecting them to give you every song for free is flawed logic. plus you do get to keep these songs and get to export them into all future games. So if you bought a song in rock band 1 you can use that song all the way in rock band 4
Vault420 No it's not, first off your DLC from the last RB carries over, then on top of that they have to pay for the licenses, so they give the game some base songs and you pay what you want for them instead of 120+ dollars for the base game unless that's what you want.
I personally own the Aerosmith version of guitar hero, I was 8 years old and this meant everything for me. I was anxious in school because I wanted to go home and rock with my brother with this game. After a while I decided to buy my own guitar and I learned to play and turned to be actually good at it. So the time passed, I focused on music and my brother in sports. We grew up to the point that we stopped playing video games together. And personally I just replaced guitar hero for playing in a real band and having fun creating my own songs!!!
What did it for me was the release of Rocksmith. As someone who played guitar before GH and RB, you can’t go back after playing a game with a real instrument. That Rocksmith is STILL releasing content despite not having updated the game in five years. That’s a good lifecycle to still have people purchase content.
This is what people needed during lockdown. I remember hyping GH when it first came out and everyone in my HS was like what. Then 2 hits and the rest is history. But the bigger problem was people were burning out their favorite songs. They add more they burn more. They should do one every 5 years starting now.
This was my favorite genre of games. Have over 3,000 songs on rock band. Bought the ion drum set and tons of aftermarket accessories. None of the peripherals lasted was my biggest problem.
Do you have a recommendation for an ion kit? I'm afraid my stock rb4 kit is going to give any day now and wanna know of any good replacements since harmonix or mad catz dont sell drum sets anymore. I play on ps4 if that makes a difference.
Jeez, saddened that I just watched this after dusting off the old Axe and trying to get on Guitar Hero TV.. Sad day.. but I found clone hero soooo.. oh well
The best Rockband was Lego Rockband. Because of its music library. I spent many hours with this title. And the best Guitar Hero was the one dedicated to Aerosmith. It was my first game ever from the franchise, and I simply love Steven Tylers Band.
I am a huge Rock Band fan, been playing for years and still play almost every day. I appreciate how Harmonix still keeps updating Rock Band 4 making new modes and things. I wish they would make more the 2 or 3 songs of DLC a week, but I understand how it is more of a niche series now
Too many games. And they got easier as they came out. They should have kept pushing the difficulty after GH3, instead they went the opposite way and so the community got more interested in custom song. By the time Warriors of Rock came out, it was too late.
I agree. With the addition of Rock Band and Band Hero, the games became more of a party game. The bulk of it's audience and consumers were casual users. Not youtube streamers get 100% full combo gold stores. The games got easier to adjust to their main consumers. Not to their elitists.
Rex Erection Rock Band is just like Guitar Hero. Plastic guitar and 5 fret buttons. There are non-guitar players who learned how to play guitar on Rocksmith such as Audrey Shida. She was 6 when she started playing Rocksmith and now that she's 14, she's slaying each and every difficult songs to learn. She also learned how to play lefty in just under a year. Her little sister Kate (9 years old) plays the bass on the channel and does vocals as well (she can growl and scream) and can play guitar as well, and can get above 90% on Through The Fire and Flames(take note, on the real guitar). They both learned from the game.
I think you’re meaning Rocksmith. Yes it does help you learn guitar. It has mini games in it as well to help you better learn chords and techniques too. Get a decent electric guitar, such as squier start, and plug in. Really fun game, much easier to comprehend than using guitar tab pro or Yousician, cheaper too. Yousician will run about $120/yr.
In 2011, I would always visit my friend at his house and we would play Rock Band 2. That was our game and it will always be dear to my heart, plus it introduced me to some neat bands like Judas Priest, Sound Garden, System Of A Down, etc. Gosh, this was my favourite, Rock Band 3 was also pretty good.
angelganon kinda it’s good and fun when you start playing great for getting chords and basic techniques down but it’s not really for making your own music
As my college professor who worked on the games ( i went for game design) said : "we were out of ideas. we tried everything. we added the 6th purple note, we tried powers of each characters, new games modes. we had nothing" He even asked us to try and come up with something. we couldnt. everything we said was already in a game. They had to add a new feature or 2 for each game.

@@rod7390yup, they would have to have a battle pass nowadays, get access to not just rock songs but any song that has strings in it, a more advanced career mode with a soft story line, advanced online for casual players and players that want to play ranked, creativity with guitars as far as futuristic cosmetics to past cosmetics.
My favorite Guitar Hero game was, & will always be, "Guitar Hero 3" - and my favorite tracks to play were "Black Magic Woman" and "Cult of Personality". GH3 had a short but fantastic, balanced playlist that kept me entertained for about a year straight! Because I played an actual guitar most of my life, these games were always a little difficult for me to pick up, and I know a few other musicians who had a similar experience. But once I was finally able to shake off the kind of "automatic muscle-memory" I ended up having a helluva lot of fun with the first three GH games. Then, almost over night, I just completely lost interest in it. When my toy "guitar" went on the fritz and I saw the price for a replacement (my first one had come bundled with GH 1 & 2) I said "no thanks" and oddly I never really thought of it again. Funny thing is that a few years ago a friend busted out Guitar Hero & a pair of guitars at a party, and I was TERRIBLE at it! Lol - for some reason I had been bragging about how great I was at GH, but when he busted it out I actually had a hard time even getting through an easy song on medium difficulty. Needless to say I put my foot squarely into my mouth and was ragged mercilessly (and rightfully so)! Lmao. But Guitar Hero was a lot of fun for a minute and I sank countless hours into that scrolling-buttoned madness.
Such a shame what happened to these franchises. GH3 was my childhood, and pretty much the only one my sister and I played of the Guitar Hero series. I played Rock Band at least once or twice at my cousins house. But that was it.
I still play rock band 4 today, you can download all of your old songs from the old game or continue to expand your music library. The game is honestly a blast
That was the only way I c play that game, No matter how much calibration I did, I could still detect lag. Through the new wireless guitar. Many times the long button press notes would quit half way through acting like you would let off the button.
There's some nutty ps2 controller players. I follow "JustAnOrdnaryGuy" and he only plays on ps2 controller.. Don't need a guitar it seems. People get good in weird ways lol
I bought Beatles: Rock Band for my Wii back in 2009, and though I loved it, my ex-wife did not. So I could never have friends over to play. Years later we moved into a smaller house and I sold the game and peripherals. Last year, I mentioned the game to my Mom and she revealed that she had an unopened box off the Limited Edition Beatles: Rock Band set! She sent it to me and I have been loving it all over again. A friend bought me a copy of Rock Band so they could borrow everything themselves, and I've ended up buying one of the Track Packs and Rock Band 2 already. I don't see myself stopping. I wish the controllers worked with all the other games like Band Hero and Guitar Hero, but alas, they've got to have their propriety. If they took a page from Just Dance, I think this franchise could 'get the band back together' if they released a version that had all the previous songs available as online content/downloads and would just continue to upgrade with new content every year. Also, Blues Brothers: Rock Band would be awesome!
I definitely think that Rocksmith filling in the gap between the last couple of releases between both franchises helped contribute to the failure of the most recent ones. With a maturing consumer base, it only makes sense that they'd want to move on to learning a skill with their guitar game now that it's possible rather than clacking away at the buttons on a plastic instrument.
Thats dependant on the person. After gh1 i decides to learn how to plaay guitar and have been playing ever since. Most people who plaayed GH didnt actually want to leaarn how to play guitar
Definitely not all people... I tried learning guitar before the first Guitar Hero came out, it was hard, cost me a lot of money (guitar + gears, lessons, chart - no real internet at this time -, and so on ), and require A LOT of practice, and I never get toa point where i feel confident enough to play in a band (if ever I could find one, and a place for repetition, a good schedule etc). So after 2 years, I stopped my efforts... Then Guitar Hero came out, there was for sure a learning curve (and real guitar didn't help me, as it is in fact pretty different) but it was instant fun, and the more I played, the better I became, and the more fun it was ! Then Rock Band came out and I was instantly addicted, now i could play with my wife and friends, it was great! It was good for me, even if I will never be on a real stage in front of reals peoples, I had fun, way more fun than I had when I was trying to play real guitar. So, it greatly depend on the person and the experience, for sure !
Rock Band was thriving when Rock Band Network was released on Rock Band 3 which allowed 3rd Party Creators to chart songs that they liked and not just what RockBand liked. But RB3 took a huge hit for removing Score Duel which was its competitive side. RB4 came and did away with all that AND Rock Band Network. Guitar Hero moved away from its successful game Guitar Hero 3 and followed Rock Band in adding drums and that ruined everything. Their horrendous music choice and garbage graphics plunged the into the depths of hell, never to be seen again.
Rb2 was the best, followed by GH2. That was the height of the craze. I had 5 people come over every weekend and we would rotate through the instruments. Amazing!
This is so unfortunate, especially for the Rock Band franchise. Fast forward to 2024 and I have been playing the real drums for 15 years now because of Rock Band. Such a great learning tool.
I play a e-kit in RockBand 4 weekly even today... the problem with Rocksmith or Clone Hero is they never supported drums, and when the friends come over, everyone plays a bit of everything. People bagged a bit on the franchises for not having 'real instruments' but yet, I play a real instrument in RB4... and RB3 did have string guitar support on some songs. If you went the way of only playing guitar, I think you may have missed out... ;)
These were my favourite games for my WII, I was so proud of myself when I first learnt expert linkin Park. I could get 100% expert with the screen off 🥺 I hope they bring it back
I bought Rock Band 4 and got fed up with shitty calibration settings and the shitty Mad Catz drums not registering my notes. That's probably the biggest reason why I quit playing. As I got to more difficult songs, I couldn't pass them because the drum kit just wouldn't register rapid notes well. And I promise it's not my skill as a player/drummer. On Rock Band 2, I 5-star'd every song on expert drums and gold star'd most of them except for a handful of the most difficult ones as well. Historically speaking, I've always had issues with Mad Catz peripherals providing underwhelming results and just being cheap (and yet not-so-cheap in the instance of RB4) product.
@@embrao maybe that's the issue, I was just using the default drum kit from launch. I had no problem hitting rapid notes in previous versions of the game, but for some reason this one wouldn't register. Even on series of notes that weren't rapid it would uncommonly drop notes.
Lack of innovation. Once they struck gold with The Walking Dead, they've been reskinning that gameplay with different established franchises and changed practically nothing in gameplay.
the lack of a proper store completely turned me off. Guitar hero 2 was personally my favorite. 3 and Aerosmith were both good as well. Though, after that, the whole idea of purchasing guitars and new paint jobs was thrown out the window. It's much harder to navigate through. The guitar hero 1 and 2 guitars were also the best. The one is wired and the other is wireless. They have stood the test of time from tons of use. The later guitars have not and the drum kit failed relatively quickly as well.
Great video. Three thoughts: DJ Hero was the best of both series, Rocksmith kills them all, and I want to thank both companies for putting so many stems of timeless classic songs in SoundCloud producers' hands.
My friend bought a real guitar because he thought that since he played guitar hero on expert, that that would translate into him being able to learn how to play a real guitar easily. He sold his real fender guitar less than a year later LOL. I tried to tell him a real guitar was different, but he wouldn't listen.
@@sirspookybones1118 haha ive heard people say that. Sadly, 5 buttons and 1 strumbar isn't more difficult to master than a guitar with 6 strings and (21-24) frets.
You left out the most important aspect of the Rock Band universe. User created content! There's an entire community with thousands of popular, user created songs, that were never officially released by the games creators. Want to revive the genre? Simple. Include a "mod" that allows users to easily input any song they choose and can share with the community. I play Rock Band 3 to this day because of custom songs. Purple Rain, Blaze of Glory, etc. Thousands of them! It's time to bring it back!
We got Rockband 4 when it first came out. My son LOVED it from day one. even at 15yrs old in 2022, he STILL plays Rock Band 4 for the PS4 to this day (Actually, he now plays it on the PS5) & I enjoy watching him play it. especially since he loves the classic songs from the 70s and 80s; Rush, Yes, Van Halen, etc. . We have purchased probably well over 400 additional DLC songs. And just last week, he wound up buying 5 songs from Megadeath. His interest in it comes and goes & there have been months where he doesn't touch it, but eventually he goes back. We even got the cymbals expansion set. He has enjoyed it so much that we even wound up getting some guitar Hero games (& equipment) off ebay for the Xbox360 around Jan 2022. The only issue I run into is the wear & tear of the equipment. We are on our 2nd drum set and 3 kick pedal. Its cheap plastic & replacement parts are INSANELY expensive on ebay these days. I am in the process of trying to repair a kick pedal instead of replacing. If the drums and/or cymbals go, not sure I would replace as they are well over $200 on ebay. I have looked into real electronic drum kits as a possible replacement, but we will see.
A major point is that musician app and rocksmith got released since then, so you actually learn guitar while playing and seems more productive than just having a piece of plastic you can't show for outside your bedroom. I think it is only a matter of time before there will be more games where learn the real life instrument.
Guitar hero was freaking awesome, it’s hard to decide between legends of rock and warriors of rock...so much fun still play almost every day. Especially on surround sound! We need some new guitar hero though, definitely not like live. They killed the way guitar hero is with the 5 colors...they need to bring some new songs or dlcs at the least
Cameron Roehrich Yeah I can't decide between WoR and LoR, even tho I haven't played LoR. But I would say LoR has better songs but WoR has the epic storyline. And WoR has great songs too.
I started out with guitar hero and the successors after for ps2 and worked my way into rock band for the drums. Both games were absolutely amazing and so realistic to actually playing the real thing. Now I have a music background so I would guess that makes me already tuned for this type of game, but even if not, it was and still is so much fun to play. And though I don’t have the drum set anymore, I’ll still play guitar hero/rock band every now and then because it really was just plain old fun.
I think the reason they died was because people forgot that instruments were a thing and started talking really fast or going whoooooaaaa instead of singing and playing instruments. If you don’t know what I’m saying, I’m saying this: instruments are dead because new music is garbage and doesn’t use them.
My best friend and I are still playing rock band 4 pretty consistently. The devs keep releasing more songs, and it's a great game to just pass the time with. Especially considering I exclusively play the guitar, and my best friend plays the drums.
I own every one of these games made...actually just bought the band kit for rock band 4. My family loves playing the games, and it’s a fun way to spend time together. We download new songs often so it doesn’t get old. I hope they continue making them.
I love it but they had a really small list of their songs and not all of them were the good ones and then they had quite an amount of songs that weren't even from Metallica
If you step back a few years, you'll see that Karaoke Revolution (Harmonix partnered with Konami to bring this) was the *first* part of the whole thing, and Guitar Hero was just to introduce and iterate with the Guitar Controllers. Rock Band was *always* the end product goal - and this is where I think the Harmonix/Activision split began. I think the "high note" really happened when Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour launched. GH had their own kitchy band-centric games, Aerosmith, Metallica, and Van Halen (and honestly, I think they pulled the better of the set with these last two). Three things really led to the decline of the game: 1. MUSIC CELEBS PUSHING LAWSUITS. The two that come to mind is GnR suing over the inclusion of Slash in GH3, and Gwen Stefani having the impression she would only appear in the game to play *her* songs, and not "any song the player felt like playing." This led the companies involved to consider this kind of thing in the risks of creating more titles. 2. CHRISTMAS OF 2008. DJ Hero 2 dropped, along with GH 5, GH Smash Hits, GH Van Halen, *and* Band Hero. FIVE FUCKING GAMES INSIDE OF ONE MONTH!! If this wasn't blatant cashgrab sink-the-ship failure, I don't know what is. It's like they missed the entire countercultural point of rock music, just like Woodstock '99 did. 3. SYSTEM SHOCK. PS3 to PS4 and X360 to XBox One was *not* a smooth transition on any side of the fences, and the kind of data migration that came with it TOOK FOREVER - like literally rebuilding both setlists worth of content all over again - and with GH Live, even THAT didn't work because they changed the entire control scheme. I don't know of ANYONE that prefers the 6-button Black/White Fret System over the 5-button classic. Plus, at the time both games were shipped, the consoles *weren't* the $399 you see them for today, they were still *SIX HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS.* And that was BEFORE the +$200 for the game/guitar controller; because none of the HARDWARE remained compatible EITHER. Honestly, I still play my PS3 setup to this day; the only concern being the controllers. Those were always the gatekeepers to the game (and nearly 25 years of DDR is a testament to this issue) - and this was why Harmonix's first approach was gradual. Start with the base system in Frequency, add netplay support with Amplitude, then introduce the controllers one at a time so they aren't prepping the whole kit at once for a bulky lump sum. I probably enjoyed RB3 the most and wish more tracks had keyboard support (or at least the ability to flip-play Keyboard/Guitar Parts on the opposite controller)... but think that the series as a whole probably still peaked with RB2 and GHWT. After these, there was a noticable emphasis on making songs "more hard to play" than "more fun to play" and a good amount of chart direction/flow supports that.
I tried to write a story about this in grad school, my theory was rocksmith took a huge chunk out because then you were really learning a song on real instruments. But the story fell through.

Oops, checked deeper and it looks like the Legacy Game Controller Adapter only allows use with wireless devices. Sorry, this is a real drummer bummer!

A standard guitar cable probably would not work due to the lack of electronics. It would not be able to track the notes.

Have you heard of...
Check out Rocksmith 2014 if you want the real deal....it's basically guitar hero with a REAL guitar, good way to learn how to play too.
I love Rocksmith. I suck, but I still love to play.
That's how I learned to play bass! Now I've been in 3 bands and have written 2 albums. One of our bands qualified for a battle of the bands and I got to play in Hard Rock Biloxi!

Why do think the last one was in 2014? A: it wasn't that popular B: most of the songs are locked behind micro-transactions.
Micah Miranda
It was pretty damn popular for people who A.
We're not going to talk about the descent into micro transactions? Blocking the best songs behind a pay wall killed my enthusiasm for the game.
are you talking about GH live and their terrible plays system on gh tv or the rock band dlc cause honestly the pricing for DLC for rock band is still pretty good especially considering how much money it costs them to license the song
Slipcover King There’s like 50+ £1.89 or so, big hit songs you can buy. Kind of a spit in the face.
it really isn't they are already giving you a lot of songs (over 65 if you get rock band 4 rivals). expecting them to give you every song for free is flawed logic. plus you do get to keep these songs and get to export them into all future games. So if you bought a song in rock band 1 you can use that song all the way in rock band 4
Vault420
No it's not, first off your DLC from the last RB carries over, then on top of that they have to pay for the licenses, so they give the game some base songs and you pay what you want for them instead of 120+ dollars for the base game unless that's what you want.
Totally agreed about guitar hero live, the way that game is formatted infuriates me. Took me the first 20 minutes to know this games pisses me off.
And personally I just replaced guitar hero for playing in a real band and having fun creating my own songs!!!
take a few lessons with a teacher. watch youtube videos. practice.
What did it for me was the release of Rocksmith. As someone who played guitar before GH and RB, you can’t go back after playing a game with a real instrument.

Realizing that I could equally use my time playing a real guitar and learn an awesome skill for life is what killed it for me.
Too many games. And they got easier as they came out. They should have kept pushing the difficulty after GH3, instead they went the opposite way and so the community got more interested in custom song. By the time Warriors of Rock came out, it was too late.

DJ Hero was pretty awesome idk why they haven't made a sequel for that
Moved to Rocksmith. Didn’t know anything when I first started. It’s a great tool to get started.
they arent dead, theyre just not as mainstream anymore

I remember playing “Strutter” on guitar hero about a million times! Love that song lol
Such a shame what happened to these franchises. GH3 was my childhood, and pretty much the only one my sister and I played of the Guitar Hero series. I played Rock Band at least once or twice at my cousins house. But that was it.
There wasn’t Ram Ranch
Guitar Hero was super big from 1-3. After that, I didn’t know anyone who played it.
I still play rock band 4 today, you can download all of your old songs from the old game or continue to expand your music library. The game is honestly a blast
Guitar hero was my childhood. I bought Guitar hero live thinking it would be amazing like the others but it just didn't feel the same anymore
GH3 and Rockband 2 are my favorites
Classics. Even world tour was good. After that ehh
Why not world tour? i think its amazing definitely better than 3. you can also create your own Hero with many accessories. GWT IS THE BEST.
"No one wants to buy the same video game every year" look at every popular sports game series ever made
My favorite one is rockband 2. I love having my friends make characters in the game and us all playing together and seeing our guys on stage.
I still wish one day a rock band queen game would come out but sadly I don't see it happening 😔
"No one wants to buy the same exact videogame every year... most of the time." Looking at you with Madden/Fifa/2K.
I stopped playing rock band once I started playing the real guitar, drums and bass
Am i the only One that used the regular ps2 controller when playing GH3
nah... i broke like 10 or 15 xbox controllers too..... and 1 guitar.....
edit: the guitar was 5 years old and it broke on me while playing soulless 3
That was the only way I c play that game,
No matter how much calibration I did, I could still detect lag.
It's like I told my grand kids, it's not controller hero. LOL
@@debijohnson9478 Love your comment. You made my day. ,,Controler hero". Amazing
These whole band kits are going for around $400-700 these days since they are becoming so hard to find in good working condition
Miss these type of games so much! The social aspect of playing these games were awesome and fun!
I love playing Rocksmith, but I still also play Rock Band.
I liked Rock Band World Tour
This comment really deserves more likes
I could get 100% expert with the screen off 🥺
I hope they bring it back
I bought Rock Band 4 and got fed up with shitty calibration settings and the shitty Mad Catz drums not registering my notes.
I regularily FC Rock Band. Pro drums (cymbal expansion) on Expert. They are cheaply made but as long as your pads aren't giving out they work great
@@embrao maybe that's the issue, I was just using the default drum kit from launch. I had no problem hitting rapid notes in previous versions of the game, but for some reason this one wouldn't register. Even on series of notes that weren't rapid it would uncommonly drop notes.
What killed telltale games😢
Bad management, bad decisions, bad commercial performance.
I loved guitar hero, it's what I grew up with. I played one rockband game though.
Same with me!
All the kids that played guitar hero got good at guitar
I play guitar and I'm still ass at guitar hero
Guitar Hero is supposedly harder to master than a real guitar
My friend bought a real guitar because he thought that since he played guitar hero on expert, that that would translate into him being able to learn how to play a real guitar easily. He sold his real fender guitar less than a year later LOL. I tried to tell him a real guitar was different, but he wouldn't listen.
@@sirspookybones1118 haha ive heard people say that. Sadly, 5 buttons and 1 strumbar isn't more difficult to master than a guitar with 6 strings and (21-24) frets.
No
These games were awesome!! I still have most of them for the 360..
Yeah but these games can get you more coordinated with your hands and build an understanding of rhythm.
I think the songs in later releases weren't as popular
we'd need more than a miracle for these games to return, especially since music licenses are so hard to get now
I started out with guitar hero and the successors after for ps2 and worked my way into rock band for the drums.
"No one wants to buy the same game every year", tell that to ea games or Ubisoft..
or madden/fifa/ any sports game
I think the reason they died was because people forgot that instruments were a thing and started talking really fast or going whoooooaaaa instead of singing and playing instruments. If you don’t know what I’m saying, I’m saying this: instruments are dead because new music is garbage and doesn’t use them.
It's sad that these games died but luckily clone hero is bringing them back!
This video is inaccurate. Guitar Hero lll: Legends of Rock released in 2007, not Guitar Hero ll.
Youre right but the Xbox 360 version of GH2 came out in 2007, the PS2 one came out in 2006.
games4850 True
It was literally my favorite game damn- I miss it
Me too
Guitar HERO??? METALLICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark Racer yesssssssssss I rocked hard on the drum kit with double bass peddles! My favorite of all!! 💚💚💚
I love it but they had a really small list of their songs and not all of them were the good ones and then they had quite an amount of songs that weren't even from Metallica
I would kill to find a Double Bass Kit for GH Metallica
Three things really led to the decline of the game:
