    My father's flag folding was a few days ago(Air Force) and it very cool to see one of the soldiers made the other refold the flag twice though i guess it wasnt up to standard but i definitely appreciated it

    That’s why as a folder you have to be aware to make sure your second fold is shortened. Once you have done it enough times you will be familiar with each fold and by the sixth fold you can start making adjustments if necessary. There’s nothing wrong with crunching it back if you have to. In fact crunching it back actually aids in tightening it up. The second fold is crucial. If you do a full fold you will be left with not enough flag to tuck at the end

    I have a flag of my uncles and am sure it was folded wrong. I knew it was. But wasn’t sure what they did wrong.

    It has been nearly 30 years since I witnessed this ceremony for my father. It was very touching. I seem to recall that the shells from the 21 gun salute were placed inside the flag. Is this true and proper? Just wondering. I also witnessed this for my husband's uncle who was in Normandy during World War II.

      it honestly depends on the VSO at the service. Some will place the casings in after the flag is presented

      My mother was given a bag with the casings in so as not to disturb the flag.

    Karen, I am a member of a Veterans' Military Honor guard. We provide 3 fired shells to the Next of Kin, because often families don't realize the shells are in the flag (if placed there) and they think they didn't get them. Of course, the family is free to place them inside the flag after the ceremony.

      Casings are never to be placed inside the folded flag per the U.S. Flag Code as it is never to be used as a container/vessel. Present the casings to the next of kin after ceremonies have concluded.

    When the next of kin is military, what is the protocol for the transfer of the flag?

    • @clydeoglesby1833
      @clydeoglesby1833 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's the same, no matter who the next of kin is, the OIC/NCOIC of the detail will kneel to the NOK and recite the full speech ("On behalf of the president of the United States..."etc.) and present the flag to them, and then render a 9-second salute before departing.

      9 x 5 is the size of military burial flags.

    Any soldier that has conducted Military Funeral Honors at the pinnacle echelon of honors details knows that this presentation is extremely sloppy in its execution and that the soldiers uniforms are very poorly tailored/fitted, and their posture/bearing throughout the video are also quite below par. Unsat...especially given their NCO rank!

      Thank god. I thought this was just how the Army did it. Because we would have gotten lit up for folding it this sloppy in the Marine Corps.
