Hi ! I am muslim. I’m very interesting by your jewish perspective to comprehend this notion of shirk or avodah zarah. As far as I could understand this video, avodah zarah is worshiping idols, false gods. As a person who wants to follow the example of Abraham (peace be upon him), I fear to practice Avodah Zarah without being aware of it. Because for us, as muslims, we believe God can forgive all sins except this one. My question is : how can you protect yourself to avoid Avodah Zarah ? What is your definition of worshiping ? What is your definition of a false God ? My questions could appear simple-minded but you will understand after. For example, I think Avodah Zarah have evolved by the time and nowadays Avodah Zarah is much subtler. Idols are almost no longer made of gold, silver and wood as before. They hide themselves in immaterial things, in concepts.
+MEHDI O -One can protect oneself from Avodah Zarah by following the commands of God and not straying from them. If one strays then one must sincerely ask for forgiveness and change his or her ways. Worshiping is placing anyone or anything before God. One should be devoted to God and God alone (as an object of worship). A false god is anyone or anything worshiped other than the Creator (YHVH/Eloh/Allah). You questions are not simple-minded at all. You are correct about Avodah Zarah being subtle. Idols can be anyone or anything.
+Noah G -Thanks. I will work on the audio. I have to do these videos early in the morning before all the noise starts in the house so I need to keep it fairly quiet. :)
