I like Gelt’s start when playing as Gelt: You’re on a diplomatic mission to Cathay, your diplomatic mission runs into a hitch as you’re confronted by Cathayan rebels trying to kill you, and you form a bromance with Zhao Ming as you help him deal with this rebel faction, and once you’ve dealt with the rebels you have an option to either return home to the Empire with your combat hardened army and stake a claim in one of the elector count provinces that has likely been destroyed while you were in Cathay, or you can stay in Cathay as a friend and administrator for Zhao Ming, or you can be a dick and conquer Cathay for the Empire. What I’m worried about is Gelt’s AI, because I feel like the cool bromance on Gelt’s side will be an annoyance on Zhao Ming’s side as you’re busy trying to deal with the Dissenter Lords, Snikch, Ghorst, and all the problem you have to face Gelt is going to be skulking in the background conquering Cathayan cities, taking away your unique landmarks and a solid economic base. It’s already annoying enough babysitting Greasus as Zhao Ming, I don’t want to wrangle Gelt to keep him from sitting on the Dragon Emperor’s Special Chair.
I thought a little bit about why Malakai didn't get the starting position we expected. I think CA doesn't want to add another faction that's going to deal with Greenskin/Chorfs/Skaven like Thorgrim and Ungrim. Here Malakai will be mostly fighting chaos, Deamons and Norsca, although Thrott and Astrogoth are near so...

That bit about Malus' bugginess made me think of Metamorphosis, but with Malus as Gregor Samsa. "As Malus Darkblade awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect."
Gelt will get more interesting when they inevitably open Ind and Kuresh, even if there's no new race, CA will surely move a couple factions in that area, the monkey king has been hinted etc... So I'm not too worried, and for now there's the option to go back to the Empire which might be viable. I don't hate gelt in cathay but does suck he has to fight a cathay faction first when you already have skaven, lizards, dark elves, and vampires. And he does start further west so he can't really help with all that comes from the east as the other two already do. I quite often (when playing order) see Miao Ying get overrun. She probably needed more help than Zhao but i get why they put them together. And I suppose he needs time to get stronger to help them out. The others are fine- nurgle is my literal least favorite faction so I don't care about them at all.
Hopefully Malakai will take some pressure off Kislev. I prefer Elspeth having vamps as starting enemies. Also gelt has the option to return to the empire so it adds some replayability to an empire campaign.
@@johnj.spurgin7037 Yeah I agree in terms of the game but Nurgle against Tzeentch fits very thematically. And you never know, having enemies on 2 sides might take a little longer for birdface to take over the entire south.

I think males should be moved to his vortex start it was cool having him near the south and that area is pretty tame right now. Epidemius should be in lustria
As for Gelt it's about time to unclock southern territories, introduce some new evil factions, it would make much more sense then. We already have a bunch of mods for that, what is CA waiting for?
Yeah, I agree that once they open ind khuresh , the campaign will feel a lot better as off for now . It feels very misplaced unless you want a massive empire vs Cathy campaign.
I d'ont like gelt either. What does the empire do in cathay ? Imagine if a cathay LL started in the empire. It's weird. If Ind or kuresh was in the game. I could then see the appeal maybe, with gelt kinda, invading thoses territories, but atm, I find it weird and just absurd

I'm gonna miss Gelt's old starter location. He's no longer gonna be able to become the sole Emperor, and I'm assuming he can no longer use elector count mechanics. Plus I hate he's losing all his artillery bonuses :(
He can use electric count mechanics if he goes back if he chooses to in the dilemma options at the beginning of his campaign and controls an empire settlement.

@@Wanderer-nw2so the teleportation via Gardens of Morr is an Elspeth thing. I don't think Gelt teleports save the one thing from his starter mini-campaign?
I kinda like it, it feels thematic. Yuri was once this proud Kislevite prince and maybe a lover of Katarin, so if you’re playing Daniel then your first major war is you slaying the father of your lover and the former ruler of the nation you held dear, while as Boris you’re slaying the betrayer of Kislev and your daughter.
Not fun for Daniel? Or not fun for Boris? Lol but yeah I’m glad he got moved anywhere was better than right next to Malus. He is just such a tough opponent especially for Daniel.
Really hate Epidimus' start position you already have Festus if you want to invade Ksikev or Northern Empire, and you already got Tamurkhan in the Chaos Wastes, We really don't need more Plagues in the North. Obviously Lustria is the perfect spot since he can ally with Shrolk. Southern Chaos Wastes would be better aswell imo.
Maybe I’m just not really well versed in the lore as I should be but to me personally he just doesn’t look all that unique as a legendary lord. Elspeth von Draken looks unique and I do love the tamurkhan story so I’m glad we got her and tamurkhan in a dlc first but I do hope we get toddy and the cult of ulric units at some point.
This DLC is about gunpowder and magic, the next one will be about religion (Ulric), and Steel (knighly orders). Of course Boris is coming, but this isn't the DLC for him.
Ngl not the biggest fan either, would love to see yuan bo in cathay as Ai just because he feels more like the faction leader over the other 2 It also just feels weird that gelt's gone to cathay but it'll be good for empire players when they confed him since he'll have such an easy time in cathay
Im more disappointed from an AI aspect. Cathy does not need another order tide faction there. I like to look at things from a grand campaign rather than just when controlled by the player
Tbh if I was part of it, I probably couldn't share this information so easily with their strict embargo. I got all this info by looking into the corner of other videos with then accidentally leaking stuff
Probably would have served you better to actually look into gelts new campaign before commenting on his new changes in this video. Gelt is on a diplomatic mission and unlike the hag he has the ability to quickly defeat the cathay rebels for zhao and go right back to the empire with huge coffers and a friend in cathay. Id argue Gelt is now the most dynamic lord in the game with the most options
Daniel right next to epidemus and Boris is just even worse. Daniel sucks in general ans he will just get killed super easy. Idk he just didn’t fit anywhere really well. I would love to see a chaos faction in lustria. Like epidemus was summed to lustria bc of the skaven plagues or something cool. And not just shove eveyone into like a small area. I also would’ve loved gelt to be more coastal as there’s a lot of open space between naki and yuan bo. If he had to be there don’t put him so close to the other Cathay legendary lords. Also just that too middle section is so gross. So little soace and all these propels who are friendly just chillin. Idk it feels very bleh. The AI will be very passive there I feel. I want chaos to be less stuck in the chaos waste. Like sure lore wise it makes sense but it dosnt feel like the whole world is in danger just the old world.
Like in naggarond valkia just gets a few territory’s and chills and dosnt do much with the dark elects and eventually eveyone dies off to the end hame senario of dwarfs. Idk just kinda bland in that area where the chaos wastes by keslv is so packed.
Boris should really be moved somewhere else now: no order faction should be so up in the north, let alone thinking it would survive. Maybe he should be the Kislev lord in Naggarond, doing some "russian Alaska" colonization stuff (and in return moving Ostankya around proper Kislev, where she shoud belong)
I was all but certain Malakai would be in the Mountains of Mourn. This KD is a fine spot for him though since it will give a dwarf faction different starting enemies. Epidemius should be in Lustria and there's no good reason for not putting him there.
The sheer fact that you don't understand why Gelt was moved to Cathay shows how much you don't know about the lore... If anything, this is one of the most lore accurate moves they could have done. Especially with him and Zhao.

About gelt yeah, that is really good when controlled by the player. As the AI, it's the same issue As yoan bo being in lustria.
@@monkeybot4088 yeah, they could have done something like they did for Eltharion when controlled by player Vs AI.
Should have put Epidemius in the far east of the southern chaos wastes for a Nurgle x Tzeentch showdown. Plus it looks a bit bare down there.
pretty sure tzeentch would win. universal magic attacks and fire hardcounters physical resistance and regen.
@@johnj.spurgin7037 Yeah I agree in terms of the game but Nurgle against Tzeentch fits very thematically. And you never know, having enemies on 2 sides might take a little longer for birdface to take over the entire south.
@@T-1001 I agree, I just don't know how to make such a conflcit balanced. Maybe if nurgle plagues did enough attrition to tzeentch to balance the fight? But even then I can't think of much in the nurgle roster that can really tackle a tzeentch one.
I think males should be moved to his vortex start it was cool having him near the south and that area is pretty tame right now.
Epidemius should be in lustria
isn't that a bit close to teclis?
Im confused why they didnt play the dwarf above the Ogre kingdoms
Yeah Norsca seems to crowded and it seems like it would be a tough spot to start much would have preferred to start in the mountains of mourn.
In my experience, AI Cathay almost always loses from Snikch and Lokhir.
They need to move imrik having to deal with rictus and then the chaos dwarves immediately after sucks
Malus always declares war on me in my Demon Prince campaigns, if I don't declare on him first (or I can get a NAP by selling him his 3rd region of the province after trespassing across his land to take it rofl)
Gelts campaign looks great and opens up a number of options. I think your take on Gelt is well off the mark.
Is campaign mechanics are amazing yeah and when you play as him , I'm sure it will be a great campaign. My opinion is more when controlled by the AI, it's a wasted opportunity. I'm hoping it will improve when ind and khuresh open up
@@monkeybot4088 It's not just his mechanics, it's the location and options you have. Stay there, go back to the Empire, leave Cathay but, build a minor kingdom outside Cathay and keep that. None of this includes the options you have when you return to Cathay.
Sorry, it's not change for the sake of it, you've just got this wrong.
Any Lizardmen changes?
Not that I know off
I'm gonna miss Gelt's old starter location. He's no longer gonna be able to become the sole Emperor, and I'm assuming he can no longer use elector count mechanics.
Plus I hate he's losing all his artillery bonuses :(
He can use electric count mechanics if he goes back if he chooses to in the dilemma options at the beginning of his campaign and controls an empire settlement.
a price I'd pay a dozen times over for unlimited battle wizards, access to cataclysm spells. He might actually rival tzeentch in raw casting power now.
@@Wanderer-nw2so I thought he only got Imperial Authority? That mechanic is DEFINITELY region-locked but universal to the faction otherwise.
@@johnj.spurgin7037 it is imperial authority. He has to control a settlement in the empire to unlock it. And Marcus and Volkmar can do the same thing they just have to control a settlement in the empire. I don't think they can teleport though that's a new thing for gelt's start of campaign dilmmas
@@Wanderer-nw2so the teleportation via Gardens of Morr is an Elspeth thing. I don't think Gelt teleports save the one thing from his starter mini-campaign?
Daniel starting closer to Boris Ursus doesn't sound fun lol
I kinda like it, it feels thematic. Yuri was once this proud Kislevite prince and maybe a lover of Katarin, so if you’re playing Daniel then your first major war is you slaying the father of your lover and the former ruler of the nation you held dear, while as Boris you’re slaying the betrayer of Kislev and your daughter.
Better than next door to Malus
Not fun for Daniel? Or not fun for Boris? Lol but yeah I’m glad he got moved anywhere was better than right next to Malus. He is just such a tough opponent especially for Daniel.
Really hate Epidimus' start position you already have Festus if you want to invade Ksikev or Northern Empire, and you already got Tamurkhan in the Chaos Wastes, We really don't need more Plagues in the North. Obviously Lustria is the perfect spot since he can ally with Shrolk. Southern Chaos Wastes would be better aswell imo.
Ooph. What’s Cataph going to do with his Norse Dwarf mod now I wonder?
The lack of Boris Todbringer is shameful.
Just wait he will get his moment
Maybe I’m just not really well versed in the lore as I should be but to me personally he just doesn’t look all that unique as a legendary lord. Elspeth von Draken looks unique and I do love the tamurkhan story so I’m glad we got her and tamurkhan in a dlc first but I do hope we get toddy and the cult of ulric units at some point.
This DLC is about gunpowder and magic, the next one will be about religion (Ulric), and Steel (knighly orders). Of course Boris is coming, but this isn't the DLC for him.
@@Dman9982 I have been waiting since first Beastmen DLC.
There's a choice for gelt to go back to the empire after dealing with the first region
Yes however the AI won't get this choice
@@monkeybot4088 ah kinda like yuan bo
Ngl not the biggest fan either, would love to see yuan bo in cathay as Ai just because he feels more like the faction leader over the other 2
It also just feels weird that gelt's gone to cathay but it'll be good for empire players when they confed him since he'll have such an easy time in cathay
Meaning just a fuck ton of free real estate 😎
Why are you disappointed with gelt? You get an option to return to the empire if you want and alot of freedom
Im more disappointed from an AI aspect. Cathy does not need another order tide faction there. I like to look at things from a grand campaign rather than just when controlled by the player
@@monkeybot4088 okay thats fair i understand this perspective
Gelt and Zhao Ming say gex
I would have liked epidemius more to be on the south Pole
They changed norscas climate to artic and mountain
You clearly deserve to be part of TW's creator program.
Tbh if I was part of it, I probably couldn't share this information so easily with their strict embargo. I got all this info by looking into the corner of other videos with then accidentally leaking stuff
Too bad the south-east section on the map is still not available, south from Cathey.
Nurgle and tzeench hate each other so vilitch will most likely already dislike tamurkhan from the beginning
Yeah, I agree. However, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. You kill zartan, vilitch will like you
12:40 lol cathay never wins in any of my campaigns
The dark elves or the twins normally take over the east in all my games
fairs, I think I have seen that once in all of my campaigns. I guess everyone has different experiences
Yes I'm was talking about the AI version of it. I knew he went back when controlled by the AI
I don’t like Malakai not starting in Karak Azorn honestly…
Im disappointed slightly also. However it could have been qlot worse.
🤓🤓
Ackshually it's Makaisson not Makinson, Kholek not Khoelek and Tamurkhan not Tamurkhon
🤓🤓
I agree
daniel might be worth a run
