I was an aspiring jr. high break dancer and managed to record this (the whole show) to VHS, and I absolutely wore out this section. Absolutely blew my mind when the robots started dancing. Amazing creativity in the performance and set design.
Recuerdo cuando lo ví en la Tv. Todos los amigos comentamos este video y sus detalles el día siguiente. Es un gran recuerdo de ese año. 👍👍🇨🇱 desde Chile.
It was another time, a better world back in the 80's, I was bless and lucky to be a teenager then and enjoy the 80's músic at his peak, it's like dream to have lived through those times, the best music ever recorded and the videos too!
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid and losing my mind when the robots started dancing. It was terrible back then because you couldn't TH-cam it and watch it over and over...you had to REMEMBER what you saw...😂
I remember seeing this when it happened and it still encapsulates everything that made the 80s, despite its other failings, the greatest decade of pop culture creativity. From Blue Man Group to Mystery Science Theater to so many other brilliant creations that have stood the test of time, the things that came out of the creativity of the 1980s are unparalleled before or since.
What most people don't realize is the keybord Herbie was using controlled multiple synthesizers without M.I.D.I. Herbie would push a button on the keyboards neck to change to the synthesizer he wants to control. The keyboard controller was very tough to get perfect
This is how the future looked and sounded back then. It was so unreal because neither the eyes nor the ears had ever experienced anything like that before.
Our eyes had never imagined the technology that could be. Even now today something more advanced is coming soon. TH-cam itself snuck upon us in 2005 I believe. Amazing to search whatever you wanted.
😎You can't imagine how cool it really was....unless you were there! 👍

Only Herbie Hancock could have pulled this one off live and not have it turn into a complete mess. Dude was a genius.
Ladies & Gentlemen… this is why the 80’s is the greatest decade ever.
LEGENDARY performance. Look at what Award specials once had. Remember CREATIVITY!
Wow, you’re right!

Got a standing ovation!!
I just realized that tons of us 80's kids loved a song by a guy who was the SAME AGE AS OUR PARENTS. VOILA!
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!

You miss the Cold War? Interesting…
Hell yeah!!! I was thirteen; I could break dance just like these guys. Now, this is entertainment!!!!!
1984 was the best year of that decade. Rockit made that happen. Thank you herbie Hancock.
Yeah - 1984 was a sensation 😊
one of the great but forgotten moments in grammy history
Still as gd now in Nov 2024 then was back then. A true Legend.
I remember watching this when I was 14 years old.
Still have my 12” record. This really was a classic the day it was released! Love the 80s!

Cocaine was very new and exciting, who can blame them? XD "Yeah and I want frickin ghostly detached legs dancing from the ceiling!!"
I remember watching this that night on TV. Everyone had the same reaction when what we thought were robots got up and started dancing.
Yo tambien lo vi, esos sí eran espectaculos algo que valía la pena ver aún había arte y creatividad.. Así fueron los maravillosos años 80's
And to think he probably changed clothes real quick to go play a gig with Ron Carter and Tony Williams after. 😂
I remember when this song first came out. It's a blend of Kraftwerk, scratching that started in New York and the 80s punk scene out of England.
2024 Stern Grove Baby! I'll be there!!!

❤CLASSIC!!!!!😊

So bizarre to see a true jazz legend doing this. But I think it’s great.
It took me thirty years to notice he was "also a jazz guy" pop culture be like that
1984 ,nawet teraz 2024 taki clip jest jak kosmiczna wyprawa.
Super
Its the internet so I hope an audio edit exists where the music cannot be heard over the noise of the robotic hydraulics, today I begin my search...
