Ive lost count of the times Ive actually seen this...this is a wet dream for any person who plays music..every single person in that room is a fucking superstar
@@theuniverse685 there is the full live "Ronnie Wood + Keith Richards" show FIRST BARBARIANS staring mister fingergroovin' Willie Weeks, some Donnie Hathaway, Eric Clapton etc !
There's a video of him playing Dear Mr Fantasy with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at crossroads 2010 and I swear it's some if the best bass playing I've ever heard. Not the most flashy, but the most musically appropriate.
@@thanksgivingsandwich if it's sound quality your looking for then it's vinyl or even CD is better. I assume you're not into vinyl then I try buying the master version from the musician directly on patreon in wav form. Or if that's not possible the next best option is tidal. Don't assume Spotify is great sound quality just because it may be a little better than TH-cam.
“Donny Hathaway Live” changed my life. The whole album is so good and Willie Weeks just blew me away. So sad Donny is gone but his beautiful daughter is an amazing gift to the world and sounds so much like him.
One of my top favs on this unbelievable, incredible project…But “Sister Moon” takes the cake for me on “Possibilities”… another remarkable offering from our Giant… Herbie🙏🏽
Great to see the process unfolding, building a tune from scratch and putting the fragments/ideas into something grooving and solid and fun (yes Steve Jordan has a LOT do with that). Thanks for sharing this. Also--it's inspiring that a master of Herbie's generation can still be so open and humble. He's the KING.
everybody has been playing them for a long time, theyre world class guitars, so endorsements aside, most guitarists who could afford one would make it a habit to have one in their arsenal.
Those "Thumbs down people"........ I don't understand them...... What's wrong with them ?? What went wrong in their lives......... I just don't understand......... Why do you watch something great like this and give an an opinion like that....... It's so stupid if you don't see how great this is.........
Ehh, it's good but not great. Guitar-based blues groove is going to be a difficult fit with a piano (Herbie Hancock says "I wish I could bend a note" at one point). With two dominating musicians like John Mayer playing chords and Steve Jordan on drums, the piano's chordal and percussive abilities are superfluous. Maybe the downvoters have in mind Kenny Kirkland's fabulous solo on Sting's live "When the World is Running Down" where everyone else gets the hell out of the way of the piano player.
It's insane how many fantastic musicians appear in this video... I mean come on..John Mayer(only white guy..!), Herbie, Weeks, Jordan, Bearden, Miller to name a few!! Insane! Thanks for posting this
It's a British / Irish slang term. Means you're innocent but got framed, for something you didn't do. Something the latest women's movement has been doing for years when a breakup is happening, lie to the police about something that never happened. Those lyrics are probably John pouring his guts out after being in a nasty breakup. I would suppose many men can relate to it, if they've gone through it.
@Fjord76 Kenny is a great musician..probably the best alto player to come along in the last 20 years! he wasn't on the original session so his name doesn't appear in the title..no dis at all though..we ALL love Kenny!..thanx for watching..keep supporting real music everywhere...in what ever genre!
Amy Miller from KXT Dallas Fort Worth plays this on her show. Ok so, GOD I wish everyone could feel the excitement the vibe the happiness the sole the goodness in this video.
they caught an amazing groove on this track... but then anything and everything John did in the mid-00s was turning to gold, even Herbie Hancock had to get in on it... I'd be honored if some Mayer fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal interpretations of his early compositions CLARITY and LOVE SOON on my YT channel in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic. Thanks and peace out.
Unsurpassed Rhythm section, so, going to be good. Clapton had those two on his last tour, must have been huge fun every night for everybody in the band.
@hiphopsucks96 Yeah you're right! John Mayer certainly has a black soul...he writes songs with the meanest grooves. Ah damn to work with these people, you'd just know that you've made it in the music business. One can only dream....
@richay772004 ok i got it: from 5:40 til the end, it's a live version feat. Kenny Garrett, Marcus, Terry Lynn Carrington, Lionel Loueke and Roy Hargrove.
For those interested this a clifp rom "Herbie Hancock - Possibilities" studio video on DVD. (about $5 on Amazon) The music CD of the same name has some real great songs with the full finished tracks, the full version of this songs is great along with Jonny Lang tearing of "When Love Comes To Town" & a heartbreaking Paula Cole song by sung by Annie Lennox, Hush,Hush,Hush, in fact there isn't one bad song on the album (except maybe for Sting, he's such an ass*ole)
In professional business, that happens. These guys can afford it ;) and if you can, why not? And not just a Neumann, looks like an U67 to me. U87 attaches differently to a mic stand. So, not just a Neumann - a tube Neumann ;) (...and now if I'm mistaken I will feel seriously ashamed...)
Guaranteed, Steve Jordan, the drummer, knows a LOT of musicians, and works with a LOT of the best musicians. Steve has been touring a LOT with John Mayer, on the road, along with Pino Paladino. They were the basis for the John Mayer Trio.
i would be confident on guitar if steve was my drummer... and i have never played guitar before.. i'd just play really quiet and nobody would miss me with a drummer like steve there
@bananafingerrrs john works with so many black musicians, he's an honorary black man! hahaha most of his band from his sophomore album on has been black, so...
Because Steve knows and is well aware that John is an audible learner. John hears it, and he will recreate it, as he hears it. You'll also note that Herbie, later on says that he wishes he could bend a note on the piano, like John does on the fretboard on a guitar.
Ive lost count of the times Ive actually seen this...this is a wet dream for any person who plays music..every single person in that room is a fucking superstar
I still come here this 2024 to learn. I will forever love this ❤
Can you believe that John was making up the words as they were laying this track down.
Amazing.
WILLIE WEEKS, Y'ALL! There's a musician that we don't see enough of on YT.
Riccardo Pearlman A wonderful player
Man, I'm a bass player and I can't believe that there's no video from him on YT! This guy is a legend!!!!!

He's like glue. He makes it all work together. These are all fantastic musicians, but without him, I'm not sure it would have worked out this well.
There's a video of him playing Dear Mr Fantasy with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at crossroads 2010 and I swear it's some if the best bass playing I've ever heard. Not the most flashy, but the most musically appropriate.
Nice to see Mr. Hancock step into his role as mentor so graciously.

Why do you think Steve Jordan came running over and said "play it" ?
He was looking out for his boy.
Because Steve knows and is well aware that John is an audible learner. John hears it, and he will recreate it, as he hears it. You'll also note that Herbie, later on says that he wishes he could bend a note on the piano, like John does on the fretboard on a guitar.
