Today we have a request and it is to see if the heavily armed Excelsior can defeat the Nova Class Science Ship.
Played from both sides in Star Trek Bridge Commander Kobayashimaru.

There may have been a chance that ramming them would have worked. I got to see the difference in size between Nova and Intrepid class, and it was about 2:1. Probably the same is true about the Excelsior.

I can't believe the nacelles didn't come off the Excelsior the moment the Nova looked at it funny. That must be a Lakota only feature.
every time you use the tractor beam, i keep hearing scorpion say " get over hear".
This battle is basically taking the Voyager era Oberth against a TMP era Sovereign. Crazy to think about that advancement.

One notes Maquis Raiders were able to disable the USS Miliche that was an Excelsior Class with TNG era weapons. Anything that can carry proper photon torpedoes will have a chance against the older Starfleet vessels.
Yes you're right Ransom's first name was Rudy. Not surprised you took out the Excelsior "quickly".
How about a Oberth class ship vs the NX-01m
If this battle is anything to go by, the Oberth will win due to the time gap on the weaponry.

The Nova class was original developed to battle the Borg, yet was out done by the Defiant class. After the Borg threat, the Nova class was used to supplement the Oberth class science vessels.

Another plus factor is having Legendary Crew though this game doesn't have it.
But Sulu and Rand ect. would be considered that and it would be reflected in things like tactics,damage control and stuff like that.
And you were using a tactic that Sulu would with the tractor beam.

Interesting idea to crash the Excelsior into the Nova class. While it is supposed to have approximately double the shield strength of the Nova class, it has a double duranium hull and the Nova has a duranium + tritanium hull.
So considering the Novs smaller size, it might be able to break through the shields of the Excelsior. After all, they should only need to break through the top or bottom of front or back shields, not through the entire shields that are surrounding the ship. Since the Nova also has the better hull, this would probably end in a no-win-scenario destroying both ships.
The Nova class was based on the Defiant class Pathfinder project they have better shielding and more weaponry than an Excelsior class unless you are talking about the Lakota then it's about even.
How about trying the California-class in place of the Nova-class? The outcome probably won't be in doubt but just the lack of an aft torpedo launcher should prolong the fight.
This battle just goes to show how much technology can advance in a hundred plus years.

Odd that this game let's you have shields and a tractor beam engaged at the same time which is widely accepted as not viable combination in the series.
Really? I know that was a plot point in the Starfleet Year One novel (in designing the Daedalus, Starfleet wanted to put six shield generators on the ship until discussion came up to convert one into a tractor beam), but I was unaware of this coming on in the series proper.
You can just lower shields arround the tractor emitters or adjust the shielding to the same frequency as the tractor beams.

@@TheCormTube the 24 century is different from the 23rd they had Multiphasic shielding then Metaphasic and Multispectrial then Auto regenerative on top of that for the best Starships.
@@TheCormTube We see the opposite happen constantly in the 24th and 25th centuries, indicating that progress has indeed occurred and such limitations are no longer in place.

This would be such a cool game to get into, but I'd have to build/buy a Windows machine just for this one game, so for now I'll just enjoy these vids.
You could try a windows 2000 emulator the game is really old so you could probably get away with running it like that
I do remember seeing a video on TH-cam of somebody who got it working on a Mac. It was an Intel Mac though. Not sure about the M line. I've got an M2, will give it a try. It would be amazing if it works.
@@RetroBadgerGaming @aurelion9983 Thanks for the tips. I actually run Linux (sorry, I keep forgetting Macs exist), but it's a pretty strong machine, so if the game's old enough to run on a Win2k emulator, it might run in Wine. So still very useful info. Time for me to do some research!
Edit: Woohoo! According to r/linux, it works great in Wine.
this behaves like the nova captain harry kim had in endgame. which was far far stronger and larger than the equinox. u can tell by the deflector

If its engines were disabled...possibly. If you ran to enough speed and then got out of the way, disengaging the tractor beam 🖖
It would be interesting if Riker Maneuver 3 could be pulled off. Of course Riker Maneuver 1 is the chair thing, and 2 is the the bussard ramscoop smoke bomb.
My prediction is that it's not looking good for the Nova.

Sorry, I don't buy this. The Excelsior was created during a time of constant potential war, while the Nova was during a time of peace. While the Nova's weapons are likely more powerful, they wouldn't make that much of a difference. Especially with it being a science vessel.
Nova class was derived from the defiant pathfinder project. That frame was initially for a warship. It's not a piece of tinfoil like an Oberth.

Oh, I see what you're getting at! They could've very well left in the weapons developed to fight the Borg, just reduced the amount.
Still, I think the Excelsior went down a bit too easily here.
Maybe Captain Sulu's tea fell, again, during the battle. It's enough to distract anyone.
Good thing Picard had the sense not to have tea on the bridge!

The Nova class you started with on the previews is different from the battle! I'd be intrigued by how the damaged version will do against the Excelsior!🫣
Well spotted! The reason for that was game stability. I tried for at least 45 minutes to do this battle in Kobayashimaru with the damaged version of the Equinox. It constantly crashed sadly.. 🖖
