Incredible match, but I will say Japan x South Africa in 2015 is the biggest upset in Rugby...
Arguably the biggest upset in team sport ever!
@@CRUSHENGLISHThe biggest upset in a team sport ever is the win of Færøe Islands over Romania (28-26) in handball.
@@davidionescu2103 Handball? Only kidding 😉
@@CRUSHENGLISH Kidding?! Why?! Handball is more popular and more wide-spread than rugby.
8.4 milions registered players of rugby around the world.
27 milions registered players of handball around the world.
Several countries in Europe has good level of rugby (England, France, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, maybe Italy)
But, Spain, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, Iceland, Austria, Russia, all of them and more others around the world have good handball national teams.
There is 3 major european cups for clubs in handball such as football have it.
@@davidionescu2103 No I mean only kidding. If you're from England like me rugby is the second God. I know handball is widely played throughout Europe. It just doesn't get the attention like the oval game!
Portugal you beauty! Congrats from SA.
They won their cup right there 👏🏽
The best moment I had in my life! Such a good memory!
Quite a few comments here suggesting that Tonga beating France was the biggest upset. No way. No disrespect to France, but they are famous for being inconsistent and they were certainly inconsistent at the 2011 RWC campaign. Japan beating South Africa in 2015 remains the pinnacle of all upsets. The fact it was done by a try in the dying minutes of the game makes the result legendary.
I agree and France didn’t need to win that pool game to progress anyway
*where
It's good but it's not the biggest upset that title goes to Japan against south africa amazing match
no its tonga vs france
@@madrikz.fj.679nah. No one saw Japan ever beating South Africa, but they did so with courage and daring.
Viva Portugal obrigado❤
Fiji have been on both ends of some major upsets in rugby! From beating England at Twickenham to losing to Portugal in the same year
Great win. Really enjoyed it
An upset but Fiji is still a Tier 2 nation
Are they? Tier One. More successful than Japan. And consistent.
By upset meaning first ever win in RWC2023 for the Portuguese, to each their own I guess
Japan beating the Bokkies is hard to beat.
Japan vs South Africa 2015 is definitely the biggest upset.
no its tonga vs france 2011
@@madrikz.fj.679 Definitely Japan vs South Africa 2015.
@@maoribrotha53 people don't seem to understand how much of a miracle it is for island nations (fiji, tonga and samoa) to be competitive when we have zero funding, corrupt rugby boards and our players get poached by nz and aus
@@maoribrotha53 it was a result waiting to happen. have you seen the money they throw around in japan rugby league one and they have a population of 125 million. they're definitely not a minnow, just a sleeping giant
@@madrikz.fj.679 Uhh no Japan were definitely a minnow in 2015. And don’t try and use population as an excuse because the most successful rugby nation of all time only has a population of 5 million… And nevermind that a bunch of players that play for the island nations were born and raised in NZ or Australia…
Fiji, for all their weight and power advantage, fell short.
No. Japan beating South Africa is.
It was really incredible!🤪🤪🤪
Yes!!!
🇵🇹🔥
Great match and definitely an upset.
Brilliant game, but the biggest upset in rugby history has to be Tonga vs France in 2011
Tonga are a strong rugby nation, despite their size, and France are famously inconsistent. South Africa, a far more consistently great rugby nation, was shocked that day in Brighton.
@@Razzle-se9dw yes but Tonga beat France, who lost by 1 point in the 2011 RWC final against the second greatest All Blacks team ever assembled
@@madrikz.fj.679 the ABs team in that final were far from their best, in fact fielding their third-best (followed by fourth best) flyhalf. It was also finals pressure.
Don’t get me wrong, Tonga beating France was incredible, but everyone knows how unpredictable the French can be. South Africa are more consistent, which is partly why their loss to Japan was completely out of the blue.
@ 38:17 the call was "taking the player out" Can someone exxplain what that means?
At 38:05 (and at 39:09 in the replay) the Portugal player wearing the white scrum cap was tackled without holding the ball
If the player wearing the white cap was holding the ball, the tackle would have been valid but as he was tackled without the ball it prevented him from assisting in attacking
In this context, it was an illegal tackle made by the Fiji player and therefore a penalty was awarded to Portugal.
1:35:08 So Beautiful 😍
To whoever uploads these videos: if you want to get views DON'T give the result away in the title. Duh. I would have loved to watch this game. I'm not going to bother now.
Man, the match was nearly a year ago, if you didn't watch it then or you didn't already know the result, you were never interested. I knew the result because I saw the match live, and I watched again because GOD DAYMMMNNN that was a pleasant match. As good as memories of it were. The archtype of "the journey is better than the destination", and the reason we watch sports at all (competition is not the reason, competition is grafted ONTO the sport we watch for the journey, it's a mean to add a destination to the journey and might be the reason for which people DO sports, but not the primary reason they WATCH them).
I'd even say this match is unspoilable, even if you know it's an upset ; upsets generally have a factor of "how did the good team lose", which emphasizes the journey, and then this one in particular, with those two halves of rugby, is even further along that path
@@paulbarbat1926what about new fans? Not their fault they didn’t see the RWC when it aired
I'm glad they don't cater to idiots. Why on earth would you have loved to watch a seemingly random fiji portugal game from a year ago if you're so new to rugby you don't know the result?
@@paulbarbat1926lol you ain’t lying this is 1 year ago
@@kiboma4209 you aint read my rant about how in sport the journey is worth more than the destination. Its especially true for new fans watching an old competition, as they dont have all context that make the destination better.
And honestly, re: this game, you give the half-time and full time score, I just ask how its possible and I watch it even harder, because I need to see it before believing a game had those stats along this score
Japan beating South Africa is the Biggest upset
❤Go Fiji❤
❤Lomani 素晴らしい❤Way to go😊
Flying Fiji❤ Go get them
❤冠葉てFiji❤神張ります❤
nothings surprising, its not like fiji is a giant rugby team
They're not great, but definitely a lot better than Portugal, especially on paper. But everyone always overestimates Fiji, just because they have hard hitting players. They don't have the mentality atm to achieve anything at international level. Their captain Nayacalevu is a good example of this. Runs like a hard man, but loses like a little child, throwing his toys out the pram.
Hey bro WTF are you trying to say!?...Do you play rugby??...No than u better STFU...By the way why Fiji lost was because they had alot of problems that day, 2 players lost their dad and son, and some players were financially destroyed 😢 so before judging them try to understand first B....
@@toma411 you sound like an English man, didn't you lose 30-22 at Twickenham to Fiji in front of 56,000 fans in August 2023. Or perhaps a French man, didn't you lose 21-14, back n 2018, in front of 35,000 fans in Stade De France. Or maybe an Australian man, we beat you in the World Cup, and our schoolboys beat yours recently. Think before you type mate
they're currently better than Scotland, Italy, Wales, Australia. They're better than Japan and Samoa. They have proven this by beating Samoa 42-16 and Japan 41-17 in the 2024 Pacific Nations Cup one month ago
@@madrikz.fj.679 Haha imagine trying to brag by reaching back over half a decade for Fiji's results that had any meaning, and even then, barely any. Again, you're another example of a Fijian lacking any humility or grace. Until you win anything, keep eating the humble pie I suggest!
❤❤❤❤Lomani I ❤ U あいしています❤👏👏👏👏
❤Lomani👏👏👏👏Fiji Go
Fiji don't beat enough top teams for this to be the biggest upset. They occasionally edge a tier 1 but mostly lose. If Portugal beat one of the World Cup winners then there would be an argument.
they regularly beat teams like japan, italy and samoa. they have beaten australia, england and france recently. but yes this is not the biggest upset, it is tonga vs france 2011
@@madrikz.fj.679again, it’s Japan beating South Africa. Face it, mate.
Yes Japan beating my country SA was massive but what about Tonga beating France 2011?
France are famously inconsistent. Japan beating South Africa, especially in a RWC match, was absolutely incredible.
❤ Lomani素晴らしい❤心様でした
off side Portugal Go Fiji Go❤
It is not the upset Fiji is not that good, they all on the same level....
Fiji is stronger than Portugal
But Portugal won the game, so what is your points... Fiji is improving but not as the same level as all blacks, South Africa and so forth, Samoa is a little bit better than Fiji in my opinion...
@@MataniuFulu Samoa better? They didn't make to the quarter, Fiji did and beat Australia ( could have beat Wakes and England too)
@@NoName-hg6ccYeah bro Samoa didn't even make it to the Quarter final😅😅
@@MataniuFulu They then went on to lose to Belgium 10-6 in the Rugby Europe Championship, and you call them better.😂😂
FIJI WON many off side went unnoticed ❤WON
I used to think the island nations like Fiji were good people, practised humility. Now it seems like you're just another bunch of sore losers. Shame.
