Kinda thinking they should have just made two seperate trailers, one focused on establishing the story with Nashi and one establishing the horror vibe. Mixing them together kinda detracts from both functions. Still excited for the set, tho.
It's the issue with the set in general. It looks great, the atmosphere is great, but the flavor sometimes falls off. Not as bad as Thunder Junction or others, but some part feels like could have been adapted better to magic.

My only complaint is that it's weird that Nashi didn't refer to Tamiyo as his mom. Nobody uses their mother's name. It made the line read feel unnatural and distracting.
I used to call my mother by name, and especially since everyone may not be totally familiar with the magic story but know the cards then it makes sense to refer to Tamiyo by name

The monsters and the plane: Dope, really well done. The characters, overexplaining of every single thing to drain the horror from it, played out 80s tech and aesthetic and clothes, and the fully capable fearless survivors: Huge blunders. Magic has become a marketing tool in a way that has crossed more and more lines as of late. Dark future.
I get the feeling that this started development when Stranger Things was huge but didn't come out until a couple years after it had faded from the zeitgeist. Which is the problem with chasing trends. Bloomburrow had a more timeless feel.
Just me or is this a bit discordant with the story? Nashi didn’t want anyone coming after him. The Nezumi follow voluntarily, so do the Wanderer and pals. Even after they get there, he explicitly says he doesn’t want them there. Also, he doesn’t refer to the scroll as Tamiyo’s scroll, he still refers to it as Tamiyo or mother! It’s a really cool detail - it makes his act of letting go that much more poignant and impactful. I’ll live but wanted to point out the difference in tone.
Yeah but this trailer was probably in production before the story was written by the author. Even the cards don't always reflect the stories, because of that. High pace productions like this can't be perfect, sadly. But I think the trailer is really good at giving us the vibe and ambience of the story!

And even if they didn't have this set story available when making the trailer, they had all their previous story that dates from the Kaladesh sets (from the masterpiece "Release" story). You do realize that Bloomburrow released back in July, right? They've always released sets quarterly and Duskmourn is right around the corner to be released late September/early October. We're in spoiler season.

I like Nashi as the POV here, seeing him try to peirce through the logic of this plane and apply his Kamigawa tech to the very annalogue and disjointed horror of Duskmourn. The actings good, the animation is fun and the emphasis on schlocky dream logic horror is so fun.
Hey wizards, take a little more time on getting worlds to actually feel like magic planes. I was always excited by the idea of a cowboy plane, but Thunder Junction wasn’t fully baked. You knocked it out of the park with Bloomborrow. Props where it’s due
We've had Bloomburrow for like... a month. The whiplash between 'really amazing aesthetic plane with an animal theme set, ooo look out, the big bad is a fox or wolf or something' to whatever this is was... jarring. Bring back three sets in a row on one plane already.
Appeal to as many as they can. Cast a wide net. You want cyberpunk mice from Kamigawa? Welcome aboard. You want a spooky house filled with Ghouls and Ghosts? we gotcha! Want some (a bit too) on the nose tropes about 80s horror and vintage media? oh yeah, you bet!

This would've been incredible without the Luigi's mansion overly talkative cartoon mouse with purple hair and neon action figure accessories. I imagine the CGI cost 10x the really well-made live action sections, but it looks goofy and kills the vibe.
What have I just witnessed? Cyberpunk early 2000 CGI rat and 80' horror movies with real actors. This mix hurts. Or you do a trailer in full CGI or only with real actors, don't mix the things, the result is an uncanny mess!
I was expecting Duskmourn to be way darker than this tbh, especially from all the revealed cards. But this trailer just made it feels like a happy go lucky kind of weird place.

Footage from his drone just happened to capture his entering into Duskmourn. It was a clue and not a distress signal. - Val is in the basement, not the attic. - Some of the visuals look like Luigi's Mansion. I thought from the story the trailer was going to have a tone and aesthetic similar to the All Will Be One trailer. Oh well, the story is excellent though.

I gotta admit...I'm shaking the rust off. I went to the early bird release for Bloomburrow cause it had that Redwall vibe, one of my favorite book series...to be clear, I hadn't played MTG in over 20 years as I stopped playing round about 2001-2002 to focus more on my school work in high school and I'd NEVER been to a tournament....I'd say winning one match out of 3 for a game I haven't played in 20 years with a slapped together deck from the Pre-release box you get would qualify as doing okay lol. I'm gonna go to this one too at my local game shop, shake off some more rust, maybe try and get some of my friends who don't play MTG into it so I can play against other people without having to go all the way to my local shop...which is like 25-30 minutes away by highway traffic.
I'm suprsised that since we now have a trailer for Duskmourn, we don't know the next set(s) name/release schedules. Imagine only knowing of the next set, and not the million after it

Also.. not fan of these "modern pop-culture" things in MtG main story sets that normaly draw from deep Classical fantasy settings.. It's not that uncommon. I know two siblings where one of them calls their mom by her name, and no one bats an eye.

This is more nightmare and horror focus. The aberrant and eldritch horrors are outside of Kaya's domain of ghost and spirits.

Valvagoth, the demon who turned the plane of Duskmourn into its personal domain. I think it is visually inspired by Mothman, though.

Just finished the story, one of the best in a long, long time. Im actually excited for MtG for once.
Having a cartoon mouse kinda makes this feel.... Not the 80s horror vibe that they were going for.
I agree with few comments here.. they should make two trailers.. one from MtG verse with Nashi and one focusing on IRL people.. all together was kinda mess. Also.. not fan of these "modern pop-culture" things in MtG main story sets that normaly draw from deep Classical fantasy settings..
At the end, we have horror world that works well and story that still continues there.. Innistrad
