    I just returned from the range performing a similar test but using a stock P365 vs 365XL. The XL averaged 41 FPS more on my reloads. But I compared 10 rounds of Federal's HST 124 from each gun. My chrony, with all of Paul Harrell's caveats, showed an average of 61 FPS difference between barrels. That is the difference 6 tenths of an inch made. Federal's website claims a velocity of 1150 FPS out of a 4 inch barrel. My Chrony showed 1132 FPS out of the 3.7 inch Sig barrel. I'll take that any day.

  • @Torqd_Off
    @Torqd_Off 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I love that you actually tested the velocity with the increased length… everyone else was just like, “Yeah, it looks cool!!! I’m not paying to look cool. Paying for performance. I’m retired and on a fixed income. It’s called priorities… few things I want. I wanted Magguts but something prevented that… Anyway, Thanx… keep being informative!!!

      Thank you very much for the feedback. The increases velocity is the main reason I use threaded barrels. I try to provide as much information / data as I can to hopefully make decisions the viewers make easier. Again thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I really appreciate it.

    I have a stock P365. I took it to the range the other day and picked up some spent casings. There is 0 primer drag on it. Each was clean and crisp. I also purchased this a month or so ago. I think production in Jan 2021. So I think they must've fixed it in production.

    That stiker drag on older design is pretty severe...i would think that would cause alot of lateral stress on the striker tip potentially causing breakage. I think strikers breaking was actually a pretty big issue in the 365 early days. So im glad they fixed the issue. I have the 365 xl and never had a drag problem which I attributed to the longer slide but im glad to see that they actually fixed the problem with the striker itself. Good video I have nothing negative to say...which is rare for me

    I read in sigtalk that the real issue with the drag is that the hole in the slide in not aligned properly so it bends the little end of the pin causing it to break, because of that if you send your gun to sig they also change the slide....make sense

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That really doesn’t make much sense. If that were true how does simply switching to the new striker eliminate drag? It’s the same slide. 🤔

    Hey, did you put any coating on that stainless barrel or is it just the uncoated stainless? • @maxrkmrose

    After plugging and chugging the data, one significant takeaway here is that the longer barrel shot more consistently than the shorter barrel and with higher velocity of course. It appears that you used a mixture of manufacturer's casings in this testing. Do you think that explains the occasional low velocity shots for either barrel length or was that a factor of your reloading such as measuring consistency for load, resizing, post crimping, etc.?

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never use steel or aluminum cases with any of my reloads. All brass.

  • @marksd5650
    @marksd5650 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve read this a number of times:
    “The telltale firing pin "wipe" is present on the primer fired in the SIG-Sauer. This is typical and to be expected. The SIG-Sauer pistols purposely have a bit slower firing pin retraction to help thwart debris from entering the firing pin channel.”
    I don’t know if that’s true or not

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark S Delaney I believe the drag has more to with how extremely fast the barrel starts to drop once it unlocks. If you have a 365 just slowly move the slide forward and you can see the barrel immediately drops. You can compare it to other pistols and you noticed that the barrel does not drop until the slide is quite a bit more forward than the 365.

      @@SigGuy Thank you! I'm really considering the threaded version of this barrel strictly for the increase in velocity without changing how concealable the p365 is. 40-50fps more can improve hollow point expansion, to me it's worth it. Correct. My first 365 was from the same timeframe. When it was sent in because of the trigger bar spring they installed the new striker and modified the slide for it. I believe they just drilled out the bottom of the striker cavity giving it a new angle.

    Have you seen Paul Harrell's data on shooting the P365 with different loads in comparison between 380? He was getting much higher velocity from the Hornady Critical Defense and 124 grain Sig Elite Performance V-Crown. Love your videos.

    What powder were you using? I use CFE pistol 5.0gr with 124 grain bullets. Works very well

    I had too look it up but a bullet traveling at 1150 fps hits a 100 yard target in .2608695652 second. One traveling at 1100fps reaches the same target at .2727272727 second. That’s a .0118577048 difference. It’s really a non issue for me.
