I'm on a department in Colorado, I've also worked with a ton of pumps in the oil fields. When we go to pull a prime or draft we are typically in a pinch for water. If you don't have enough water in your tank use the pump to tank valve instead of the blitzfire. Air entrainment concepts will help a lot when pulling a prime.
