    Sometimes we’ll restored comics are more aesthetically pleasing. You still have a piece of history. It becomes a “Ship of Theseus” argument.

    I would rather have a purple label book with nice, neat restoration that improves the look of a book than a blue label restoration removed book with pieces removed from the cover to facilitate the restoration. I do NOT like to see holes or missing corners on a book, especially just for the purpose of getting rid of a purple label!

    Often, on GA books, glue on spine will still get a blue label. I've seen many in blue, with "Small amount of glue on spine" notes on the label.

      Generally the way that works with golden age (from what I’ve seen) is if the glue isn’t serving a purpose then they’ll still give the blue label. But if the cover is reattached with glue, or there’s a tear seal, etc, then it will.

    Hey Ryan you always have great input and you have some awesome books. Yes this is Bob in Connecticut I have three restored books left. I have amazing fantasy 15 8.0 restored no trimming. I have superman 1 5.0 restored no trimming. I have a Batman 1 5.0 restored. I paid $450 for the amazing fantasy 15 I paid $12,500 for the superman and I paid $10,500 for the Batman. Anyway I told you a few times I sold most of my books because I’m never going back to work and I don’t really have any cash flow so when I need some money obviously I have to sell a comic book.

      Thanks and I kept some of my other books I told you before I still have my amazing fantasy 15 6.0. And I still have my X-Men 1 7.0 my tales of suspense 39 8.5. Anyway what would you do? I just had an offer from a dealer $25,000 for my journey into mystery 83 6.0. Or he said $9000 plus the first appearance of wonder woman it’s only a .5 all star comics 8 yes I know how rare that is so it’s up to me I have to make a choice whenever I decide to make a deal. Well I would love to have an all-star comics 8 .😃😃😃

      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe I already said I would take the cash. The cash plus all star 8 is worth less overall.

    One of my most recent email correspondences with Matt Nelson re: Glue: If the glue is functional, then purple (label).

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that’s what I responded to another comment. If it’s serving a purpose (like reattaching the cover or sealing a tear) it will be purple.

    I feel like the reason these books are not on EBay is bc there’s no demand for it. If there is a slightest demand, then eBay becomes flooded with it.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to disagree on that. You can’t flood anything with rare books. I don’t think people understand how truly rare some of these books are. Like for some of the very in demand golden age captain America or Batman books. Often less than 100 available graded across the planet. And most people will never let theirs go. They come up for sale sometimes less than once per year.
      Also, I’ve sold restored rare golden age books on eBay before as well, they get bought there too.

    I have an Avengers 4 in a .5 purple label. The old girl has a whole lot of miles on her but that's part of the reason I love the book.

    • @AutomaticComics

      The low grades can also be just as fun to own. They have a unique history of their own.

    There is adds In Old overstreet guides that advertise and encourage restoration to your comic……it absolutely has to do with the grading company stigma 🤷

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, definitely seemed to be more common in the past than today. People still get books restored today, but I’m guessing not quite as often.

    My only restored book is an All Winners #10 (CGC 6.0 R) that I got two years ago on eBay for $866. I wanted an Alex Schomburg WWII cover. There is a 6.0 blue label on eBay right now for $4949.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Schomburg WW2 covers have definitely seen a big spike in prices over the last year. They were always expensive. But much more so now.

    Trimming should get a green label because you are removing original pieces of the book

    With the way comic prices are going into the stratosphere even key restored books are the last hope for some in order to get what you can.Small amount of resto doesn’t deter me at all if the book is rare to find even in blue label grade

  • @nixknacks-comics
    @nixknacks-comics 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't mind minor restoration either - I'm actually looking for restored books to take the place of some blue labels - either for an appearance upgrade or to take the difference in value to add other books to my collection.
    This is due in large part to being done with grading companies. The services are still totally subjective and not transparent. I can buy a lot of mylars and full backs for the cost of grading and not have to wait 8 months to get a book back.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of time it takes is definitely a big deterrent.

    Very Gary just did a video on 3 cgc restored books he sent in to be unrestored
    They were daredevil 1 cgc 2.0
    Xmen 94 cgc 9.0
    Xmen 101 cgc I think was cgc 8.5
    The daredevil came back blue label cgc 2.0 which was a better book and worth more
    The xmen 94 came back a cgc blue label 5.5 which was a huge loss better off keeping it restored
    And the xmen 101 came back a blue label cgc 6.0 which was a straight trade off
    I agree with your opinion better leave these books alone and live with the restoration instead of cutting out pieces to the cover to convert the label but lower it potential value and overall look

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the book/what restoration there is. I saw that video. For a low grade book like that DD1 it was definitely the right move to remove the restoration. For the other two, maybe on the 101, definitely not on the 94. Because yeah, he looked at the old and new prices. But didn’t account for all the money/time spent regrading and having the restoration removed.
      So if you made an extra $200 but spent $250 to get it to a blue label. You didn’t make money.

  • @zhain0
    @zhain0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not ganna lie, I was thinking of getting the money together for a 9.6 restored af15. Didn't in the end, I think would rather a non restored

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on the restoration for me. Sometimes it seems like it’s more restoration than original book. With a super high grade AF15 restoration like that, that’s probably the case (lots of new paper added, etc).
