Dave is spot on with addiction. Mine was fentanyl and everything he says is spot on. Just hit my 6 yrs sober, mostly because I never want to relive that withdrawal ever again.
Amen. Mine was Oxycontin, and I have to admit, I have been Oxy clean for 8 yrs, and I got Covid last year. The Oxy withdrawals and the Covid were eerily similar. Some don't realize we get all that from China, both Oxy, Fent, and the Covid.
I share a house with an addict. He just relapsed and drank my entire liquor cabinet. (I personally felt responsible for having alcohol around, but he assures me I was not, and after hearing the stories here, I can finally agree [he would have found some regardless). But what I personally struggled with, (As he was drinking my booze in front of me apologizing for stealing it) was "why don't you just stop?" Now I understand more when he said, "I can't". (Epilogue: He got into detox and cleaned up. Now he started his sober count again)
I am a little bit baffled about the discussion Matthew Perry had with I think Peter Hitchens on BBC in the UK. If he has an allergy against Aspirin, I have it also, he should inherently understand what McClowry said, drugs, any kind of drugs, have a big physical-chemical part which hit us very differently. So the allergy argument of Perry was not that bad. Some people drink a couple of beers and have no problem working or functioning the next day. Other people have very fast physical-chemical addiction to it. And feel the urge to drink and drink and drink. So, yes it's a choice, but for guys like Hitchens its a vastly more easy choice than for guys like you or Perry or Landau. Its strange to not understand that, even if he comes more from the tough love angle.
I love these episodes where they have long discussions on serious topics. Addiction is something that runs in my family, and I've always had an addictive personality. And I agree with Dave, Almost Heroes was an underrated movie. I never understood the backlash for that film.
Hands down my favorite episode of this show. This episode felt like truly getting together with friends you haven’t seen for a minute and just talking about life. Angela and Dave it took guts for you guys to Be as open and honest about your struggles as you were in this episode. Massive props to you guys and I’m thankful you all are with us!
Rock on Angela, very brave of you to share that with us all, the struggle is real I know from experience myself the struggle is real, ✌🏼✌🏼you go chick keep the fight up✌🏼✌🏼
You guys never fail to make me laugh and as someone that's struggled with the same issues it makes me feel more normal. That's one of the reasons I love why you called the show normal world.
When We got pregnant with our first Daughter my Dad said one of the most Profound things to me. He said "do you remember when I took you to Disneyland when you were 4?" I obviously didn't but his response still sticks with me 4 years later. He said "I do, I got to remember all of the childhood that I did and even didn't have by providing it for you." I still tear up when I share this. Parenting is a gift and I pray that all parents get to realize what my Dad did.
I took my son trick or treating last night with a group of other kids and every time we went to a house with a bowl out front and it was empty he would take candy out of his bag and put it in the bowls I never told him to do this
The way Matt just keeps a straight face after jokes, while starring into your soul with those eyes of his.. with that angry resting face.. he makes me feel like he’s scolding me for something with a disappointing glare. Its hilarious and unsettling at the same time 😂😂 It’s always a good time when Matt’s on!
Dave touched on the sense of purpose in life. Today Jordon Peterson had a video that’s about 20 mins long from the ARC convention that happened over the last few days. The points he makes in this 20+mins is exactly what everyone should hear. Modern society has transformed into something in need of guidance from a wise perspective. I will add the title of it later.
36:56 Wasnt married until i was 33. my daughter was born when i was 35 and i very quickly felt like i had wasted my 20s and should have started a family much sooner. I had a lot of fun and had been to 32 countries, the neatest cities and the nices beaches in the world. thought i loved that life. Gave it up without a second thought when my daughter was born and dont regret it at all. Kids made life so much more full and happy in a way the 'fun' life could never match.
Matt is fukin hilarious, i see now why Crowder was threatened... we need more Matt in the normal world. Addiction talk sucks but always happens when I need it. Bringing up purpose and lack of is a big part of addiction. LOVE THE SHOW!
As someone who isn't religious, it's amazing to me how much the metaphors of the Bible apply to the human experience, so addiction is a hell of your own making, yes there is an element that feels out of your control, but it's still in your hands, such as you having the ability to repent at anytime, but it has to be real for you to reach salvation, you can't just plan to repent before it's too late, you have to actually make the change in your heart... which is also the reason why telling people they are victims of their existence is such a good way to corrupt people's minds, cuz it allows people to believe they are not to blame... maybe it's the devil!? But you have free will, you have the power to resist the devil and "the word of god" literally repels the devil... literally as in literature.
I have never thought about addiction the way you explained it. I’m 45 and realize my own struggle much better now. Thanks. I actually mourn for Matt now. I may not have ever given him a second thought.
Awesome show! You guys are awesome, and it's seriously a dream (my dream for about a year) come true to see Dave, Matt, and Vinnie on a podcast together! You guys are amazing!
I've said it before, and now I'm going to say it again... Dave should host a podcast or show like this, dealing exclusively with addiction and recovery. As funny as he is, when he gets serious like he does when discussing addiction, something makes me slow down and really listen to what he's saying. Angela would be a great addition to that show as well. Doesn't have to be complicated. A guest related to the topic. Answering viewer emails and comments, etc. It could really help a lot of people.
Oh my God...I have always loved that flick Almost Heroes. Always made me appreciate the underrated energy of Farley and Perry and Eugene Levy playing off each other. It's one of my "comfort films" when I need a lil pick me up I'll toss it on and have a laugh
Dude almost nobody knows of that movie! I consider it a classic comedy that's a must watch! Eugene levy after the "gauntlet" "who's idea was the corn" 😂😂😂
I got to see both these guys LIVE. AND I have babies with one more due on Thanksgiving so my life is a WIN! Yet… the struggle is real but no regrets except them all.
QB has his place but he shouldn’t be a full split with Dave. This autistic dude is great. They really need to bring a 3 permanent host. Dave is much funnier with multiple people to bounce off.
Matthew Perry’s death reminds me of Andy Gibb’s. Recovering addict, spent the day playing a sport, complained of exhaustion, dead. Andy’s was heart related from the damage done. Don’t know Perry’s yet.
I listened to this person today talk to her friend about how her mother and father both gave up smoking, but where her mother had no inclinations towards picking it back up, apparently her dad wished every day that he could. I personally managed to make my dad stop via using up a birthday wish as a child, but I can tell he merely replaced it.
Love you Angela! I am not religious. I have come from nothing and I have what I want now. Life is good. Stay grateful and remember why you want to live and remind yourself that your future is bright, your future has already happened nothing to worry about. Coming from someone whose had child sexual abuse as well as mental and physical and saw a man get head chain sawed off as child. Bless your life with reminding yourself every SECOND that you have a beautiful future that has already happened. No one can take it from you. You are successful. Believe me.
I love it how Matt mentions the house he’d buy without cracking a smile. Is there anyone else who’d like to hear Matt read The Babylon Bee headlines for an hour? 😂
I've heard a couple of disturbing rumors that Perry had been working on a tell-all book about the film and television industry, and that his family(and by proximity himself)were friends with some pretty influential Canadians, some in political positions. I personally don't know what happened to him, but it seems to me that a book like that could ruffle A LOT of feathers in Hollyweird. But I'm just speculating speculator. 🤷♂️
Having an addiction is like this (and so too with withdrawals): Go a head and eat 4 lbs of Taco Bell and then take a double dose of Ex-Lax. An hour later when your tummy starts grumbling one of your friends tells you to ignore it. But the pain in the lower gut starts bubbling to a fever-pitch, and the sweat starts pouring from your brow, and the color in your face drains out and the slow head bobble in circles is prevalent. You say, "I need a bathroom now!! I don't care if it's a toilet right in the middle of the town square completely exposed, I need it now!" But a friend or even a spouse tells you that you don't need to take a shit. That running to the bathroom and flat out loosing your bowels, holding onto the handicapped rails and crying out to multiple deities, is a choice, just a matter of will power. . They tell you that you don't even need to go to the bathroom and that if you care anything at all about them, your children or extended family that you will stop feeling the urge to run to the bathroom. But then you have a few friends in random places that have beautifully built bathrooms at their house. The beckon you to come over anytime you have this awful situation. They just ask that you call first to make sure the bathroom is available at that time as they almost run a business for people in the condition that you find yourself in right now. Bathrooms with wide open spaces, sectioned off from the rest of the house, where it's quiet and peaceful. Just outside of the bathroom window, which is strategically placed to still give you privacy but bring a cool breeze across your face and arms to sooth the sweaty forehead, it brings in the fresh fragrance of flowers from the garden which seems to help settle the pain you feel in your abdomen. There's a bidet connected to the toilet and fragrant soap to wash your hands and a nice clean sink. Now that you've gotten to do what you needed to do, your digestive system is right with the world again, you can go back to your friends or loved ones and are able to give them your undivided attention and loving care that you desperately wanted to give, but were unable to due to the condition you were in just an hour ago.
I’m a recovering drunk and I don’t agree with the allergy analogy because I’m also allergic to amoxicillin and they are not the same 🤣 but alcoholism and addiction is not something you can control when you are in it, you cant just will yourself to drink or use less and when you’re in it there is no stopping and everything else takes a back seat and your brain fools you. You only think sobriety is a good thing when you are. It’s not just a matter of will power because I am a strong willed person and I care more about my family than anything else in the world, there isn’t a thing in this world I wouldn’t do for them but I dragged them all through hell because I convinced myself I was the only one effected by my drinking
I know of a lot of houses no one has died in (like mine). But maybe if we’re talking houses over 50 years old the odds go up. I do really want a house with cool tunnels but I’m not sure I want a murder house.
I'm going to to re-watch almost heros after this episode, such a hilarious great movie, I think Chris Farley was filming dirty work with norm Macdonald around the same time. I'm going to watch both because all of the comedic legends are now gone 😢

I'll watch anything Dave Landau is a part of. Dude fucking rules.
This show is just group therapy for normal people with a touch of news love you guys
I've been getting that same feeling
Dave is spot on with addiction. Mine was fentanyl and everything he says is spot on.
Just hit my 6 yrs sober, mostly because I never want to relive that withdrawal ever again.
Amen. Mine was Oxycontin, and I have to admit, I have been Oxy clean for 8 yrs, and I got Covid last year. The Oxy withdrawals and the Covid were eerily similar. Some don't realize we get all that from China, both Oxy, Fent, and the Covid.
Oh, and awesomeness for getting away from that devil. God speed my friend.

This is proper late night. The best right now
thanks for addressing addiction, I'm 6 years sober and it touched me enough to think about going to meetings again
As an addict, I love that you are all touching on this subject. Thank you
Its true. I laugh on the outside and flashback on the inside and cry.

I prefer this trio over all. Good chemistry,
Hands down my favorite episode of this show. This episode felt like truly getting together with friends you haven’t seen for a minute and just talking about life. Angela and Dave it took guts for you guys to Be as open and honest about your struggles as you were in this episode. Massive props to you guys and I’m thankful you all are with us!
I'm glad Dave talked about Perry's alcoholism. Dave and Nerdrotic are very good at explaining the struggle and why it's a constant battle.
Thanks!
As someone who struggles with alcohol, this episode is grossly underrated. Thanks for opening up, fellas.

Yes!
Mr. McClowry!
I love him and that doctor they had the other day!
He was amazing as creepy Stephen King! 😂👍
Absolutely nailed it about having kids. It really is like that
Just watched the Halloween special from lastnight. That was pure gold!!!
The woke zombies about made me die! 😂👍
Matt is a legend. He’s so funny. Great writer and great morals.
The coolest people seem to be on this show
I took my son trick or treating last night with a group of other kids and every time we went to a house with a bowl out front and it was empty he would take candy out of his bag and put it in the bowls I never told him to do this

Yes! It’s awkward and perfectly weird. Love it!
He would have made a good walking dead character!
The was a REAL show! Loved it! Thank you for being yourselves and talking as if we were chilling in the room with you.
Matt should be on show, he is great
Dave touched on the sense of purpose in life. Today Jordon Peterson had a video that’s about 20 mins long from the ARC convention that happened over the last few days. Matt's channeling of Norms ghost was pretty good.
Well done dude.
And yes, stelter is gross
39:04 This is absolutely the best episode I’ve seen. Hearing Dave open up about addiction was really inspiring.
Damn, I wish I could hug Angela. Relapsing is hard. I'm proud of you for talking about it. Wishing you the best on your fresh recovery.

LOVE THE SHOW!
Loved this episode. Clean and sober 3 years next month.
Yall are all fantastic. Dave you have a norm Mcdonald/ George carlin vibe dialed down that I love

Oddly enough, I never knew about McClowry until this podcast and I think he’s funny as fuck.
Man I still can get over how cool the intro is to this show
Almost Heros is such a great movie! I’m gonna dig that up to watch this weekend , I’m sure my wife never watched it
Really great discussion. The gift of desperation is a real thing and a blessing.
Dave, you are wonderful!
Love the honesty, love the show, and love you guys.
Great conversation and funny too. Always appreciate y’all’s perspective
This is how the show should be, I don't mean to be a dick.
Reign over me was great.
Edit: I’m so glad Dave talked about addiction
Great show tonight. Talked about deep issues and entertaining.
Great episode tonight. Liked the discussion about Matthew Perry and addiction.
Damn! This episode got deep!! So glad you all are so open and honest about your struggles.
I have never thought about addiction the way you explained it. I’m 45 and realize my own struggle much better now. Thanks. I actually mourn for Matt now. I may not have ever given him a second thought.

@ericsfishingadventures4433 yeah that was good stuff- or the squirrel that's got something in his hand lol
16:23 "goody bag full of candy" to Wong house...😮😅😂
I never heard of this podcast. Big fan of Dave from Louder with Crowder.
Spot on with the sense of purpose thing.
Great show guys❤ it always helps knowing I'm not the only one struggling with sobriety. Poor Matthew perry😢
I LOVE YOU GUYS AND GIRL! ❤️❤️❤️
I got to see both these guys LIVE. AND I have babies with one more due on Thanksgiving so my life is a WIN! Yet… the struggle is real but no regrets except them all.
11:00 nailed it
You're awesome QB!
Angela is a brave woman. Good on her.
Great show. Again.
QB has his place but he shouldn’t be a full split with Dave. This autistic dude is great. They really need to bring a 3 permanent host. Dave is much funnier with multiple people to bounce off.
Agreed! Replace QB with Matt please!
NEWSOM SHOULDA JUST WENT FOR THE 3 ,HE YELLS, FROM CHINA TOWWNN! HES ONFIRRE 🔥
Wait till you see them graduate high-school and college. Worth it!!!!!!
Matthew Perry’s death reminds me of Andy Gibb’s. Recovering addict, spent the day playing a sport, complained of exhaustion, dead. Andy’s was heart related from the damage done. Don’t know Perry’s yet.
This is my favorite show
"I look like a good looking guy who just died a few hours ago" is my vibe for the rest of the year.
Great show everyone
I listened to this person today talk to her friend about how her mother and father both gave up smoking, but where her mother had no inclinations towards picking it back up, apparently her dad wished every day that he could.
I personally managed to make my dad stop via using up a birthday wish as a child, but I can tell he merely replaced it.
"You never loose when you bet on yourself" holy Christmas I laughed officially harder than ever before watching Normal World!!

Perry said it's not a choice, but Dave said "when you decide to relapse". It is a choice
I love it how Matt mentions the house he’d buy without cracking a smile. Is there anyone else who’d like to hear Matt read The Babylon Bee headlines for an hour? 😂
You guys are the best 🤣👍👏😎
I really enjoyed the Halloween special
Love Angela’s daughters costume lol

The new hellraiser was amazing
Deep meaningful show, now I want a beer 🍻
All my uncles died this year. Two within one month. I know what you mean Dave.
Almost Heroes is hilarious AF
might have to take dave and matt up on the gravy offer especially as we all know comedy and gravy go together best
dude he floored that kid faster than he did the California economy.
Love this channel, but is there a one hour version of the intro theme song out there? Getting tired of replaying it over & over myself...
I’m so sorry you’ve lost so many friends and acquaintances @Dave.
I know of a lot of houses no one has died in (like mine). But maybe if we’re talking houses over 50 years old the odds go up. I do really want a house with cool tunnels but I’m not sure I want a murder house.
Co host mc clowry please
I'm going to to re-watch almost heros after this episode, such a hilarious great movie, I think Chris Farley was filming dirty work with norm Macdonald around the same time. I'm going to watch both because all of the comedic legends are now gone 😢
We love you Dave.
Addiction, for anyone that has never been through it, is kinda like being hungry and thirsty with low blood sugar, and you are being forced to watch BeardVSfood in your head, and smell the meals, and hear the bites.. I think that's the thing that would be most relatable in simile.
I'm Australian, we have few Starbucks thanks to a vibrant cafe culture. I finally got to try one of those pumpkin spice lattes overseas a few years ago and wasn't impressed by the hype. It just tastes like you sprinkled mixed spice into a latte.
What better way to end the show than a awkward death moment 😂
I don’t want any BUGS. These people are insane! I live in the Midwest-we have TONS of FOOD!!
That take on addiction by Perry is a bit ridiculous.
Yes, absolute nonsense
