Katja and Fabio are living the dream once again. After having built their own monohull 20 years ago and doing a large Atlantic circle with their kids. They have now chosen to get this amazing Schionning Arrow 1500 built for them. Even though it was built in a shipyard there were still hundreds of hours spend working on the boat to get it ready for cruising fulltime. Enjoy the raw sailing of this performance catamaran

Great video about the Arrow. I nearly went for one set of raw panels in 2015 but Schionning could not provide that these days. Because of my limited building time I gave up and bought a used Freydis 46/49 (Erik Lerouge) which I stripped complete inside and re-arranged the rig, deck gear and sail inventory. All in all, I made "my" boat out of it. The excelent hull desin was already given by Erik Lerouge .
Only a few things I would improve on Fabios Arrow, but thats my personal expirience after sailing mine for 7 years. As example, only last year I added a wheel steering (cable) to the tiller Joy stick arrangement. Now I am much more on the wheel as love this direct response.
By improoving I would start with a screetcher sheeted on the deck house for pointing high upwind in light air. (check my clip: "Freydis 49 - light air")

That sounds like a very interesting catamaran you have put together for yourself there Klaus! I hadn’t heard about the Freydis cats. But they look well built and light. What’s the performance like for you? And what is your sailing area?

Thanks for your interest, if you ask me for the performance, I believe it is good even if it is built 2002. This because nearly all basic parameters for fast cruising catamarans had been developed and said already in the late 90ies. The designer icons in Europe had been Lerouge and Shuttlewoth and Outremer. I am excluding the later upcomming trend of mass production charter catamarans (holiday/party plattforms) which slipped off from the 2000 year old idea of multihull traveling and its advantages by the Polynesian`s.
Anyhow.... my boat is 49feet, 9 tonns, and a hull ratio of 14:1, Keels, 120cm draft and beat up to 28° apperant
      Sails: beside rotating mast 8m²,
      Main 77m²,
      Head sail options for beating:
Haevy wather jib 20m² self tacking, 34° apperant wind
Genoa/Jib 44m², 110%, 28° apperant wind (always without sppeed loss)
Light wind genoa, Screetcher: 74m² on bow sprit, 30-32° apperant wind
      Reaching and down wind:
      Screetcher, 74m²
      Code 0: 140m²
(No asymetric gennaker or Spi, that makes not much sense)
Max. sensfull sail area beating is 159m²
The sail inventory I designed for active sailing.
The performance is tested 20ktn`s plus, but it makes more fun to sail when other cats standing or use their engines.
I am talking about 4ktn wind, she is sailing 4-5ktn in calm seas. Sailing true wind speed up to 10ktn is possible

Very impressive. I love how it cuts through the water with the narrow hulls. And how she points upwind is really impressive. How is the.solar performance? I see a lot of shading from the mast and saills?

It cuts through the water like a knife indeed! We also pushed it upwind to about 32 degrees apparent and it keeps it speed up. This is a cat that can really point! The solar performance is good, better on anchor off course because a lot of it is shaded by the mainsail when sailing. But every panel has it's own MPPT controller to maximize output while being (partially) shaded. On their latest crossing from Gran Canaria to Salvador Brazil they only ran their motor for power a few hours. You can see more about this boat on their channel @FaidapiuSY
