Hi Chelsea I've been detailing for 7 years now I'm rocking 6.5hp 5gal commercial ShopVac ( discontinued model 😔) super powerful work horse had it since day 1 love it to death BUT as of 6 months ago I've switched to the 6gal stealth sonic and although it's not as strong I could care less the low noise is such a game changer. I'm in love and can never go back!
Great results. Another thing that's nice with a bigger tank on wet/dry vacuum is using it for water pickup. When i can, i try to purchase equipment for more all-around use. The bigger tank was helpful for me vacuuming up a water mess in the basement. Also, it picks up melted snow on the garage floor. You are so right about the Ridgid accessory detailing attachments. Super nice. Thanks Chelsea.
To me the DeWalt was louder and had a higher pitch, I think you convinced me on the smaller vac as my little one likes to help me detail! Love the video and thank you Chelsea 😎
this episode should’ve been called “chelsea the last air bender” ✌🏽… got my a2d shirt and decals in a few days ago, and there’s already a A2D decal on the interior of a train locomotive out there somewhere (i detail but my regular career is a freight train conductor) thank you thank you thank you! if you ever see a train you can think “ha, my decal is on that thing!” the yellow ones, not the navy or orange loco’s 😜
Hey Chealse, I had the 14 gallon rigid for years now just bought the 9 gal stealthsonic and love it. I just plugged my rigid car detailing hose into the end of the dewalt hose. Works great & gives me a longer hose.
I came here for a review/comparison of the rigid (which I bought). I don't do detailing, nor have I had it done on any of my cars. I had the same old craftsman 5 gallon shop vac that I needed to replace for small construction and general use around the house. I must say though, your video is excellent and I really feel like I need to get my car detailed. Super impressed with all your tips and tricks on the detailing as well. Thank you
Hi Chelsea. Good video. I run yhe ridgid as well . Only when mobile. The one with the detachable blower . I put the exhaust diffuser on it which helped. At home i run a vacmaster wall mount 5hp with a 50 ft centic hose . Super quiet. Going on 4 yrs with no issues what so ever .
Great video! I have the same dewalt and like it a lot but you’re correct, the hose size and short length sucks. Guess I’ll get the rigid hose even though I don’t do auto detailing.
Have you considered a product like isotunes? These are actually designed to be worn in noisy work areas, osha compliant, and have actual real noise reduction vs just frequency cancellation.
I used to use the isotunes free in a welding shop where there were constant grinding, hammering, all sorts of tools going and I could listen to my music and podcasts no problem. They are capped at 95db so depending on what you’re listening too if it’s a quiet audio I would sometimes struggle.
It's good that you don't pull seats. They are one use only bolts. Even once someone has cracked the loctite on the bolt even if they decide to no pull the seats and re tighten. They will sheer off in an accident
Just bought this yesterday, but the 12 gallon. Haven't used it yet, but turned it on to test, and it's definitely much quieter than most. I can already see I won't use any of the attachments and the hose sucks....so I'll be finding a better hose kit for detailing.
I got the Bauer kit from Harbor Freight to try out. Was only $25, comes with 10ft hose, some adapters and a few tools.....but I'll probably only use the crevice tool. Instead of trying to REPLACE the DeWalt hose, this just attaches to the end of it... so you end up with a total of 17ft of hose, and I think that's plenty for me.
Wow, if your neighbors complain about the sound of your vacuum cleaner, you should come to Puerto Rico and witness how close homes are from each other and no one will complain
@Lee-lb9qh I have been in 39 states, and I know about them since many homes here are as close as them from each other here. We have many town houses too.😜
I was looking at the Rigid with car accessories….not a pro….just for my own cars….notwithstanding the noise, I think I like the Rigid better for compact size.
That Dewalt is lower in sound. I have the Ridgid vacuum but I have a Ripclean extractor kit on it and I have smaller toolbox Ridgid vacuum use for vacuum cars. I did buy the Ridgid muffler that goes on the exhaust port. I do have Apple earbuds.
I just got the 14 gal 6hp and I built a PVC muffler for it. It went from 86dB to 75dB which is a significant reduction, and all it took was some 3", 2" pipe, an expander/reducer, a cap and a 90 degree elbow. Oh, and some foam backer rod to act as a baffle.
Thanks for the video. I currently use the ridgid wheels model for Home improvements. I think by seeing your video I will be buying the stealsonoc by Dewalt
@@attention2detailswchelsea Yep! I wear ear muffs i can still talk and listen to people with them, But sometimes i just like to shut myself off to the world and could wear them all day. 🤷♂️
Hey Chelsea great video! Just curious as to why you prefer an aftermarket crevice tool compared to the one Ridgid includes in their auto detailing kit? I’ve always loved the included crevice tool but then again I’ve never tried anything else. Btw I think you should name her tighty whitey lol. Thanks in advance I’ve really started to enjoy you and your videos!
It’s actually a Hoover vacuum attachment that I started using when I first was detailing cause I didn’t like the flimsiness of the long one and I’ve worn this one so smooth that it doesn’t scratch or tear sensitive fabrics. Plus sometimes I don’t need something so long and it’s become like Linus’ blanket for me with vacuuming. I lost it once and about cried lol. But we are together again and all is right with the world.
I hate how the ridgid orange detail hose/kit attachments doesnt work well with the original accessories that came with vac. Forced to use the horrible black hose with the correct end which is like 5ft long to use the floor nozzle and others.
It's probably with the bigger hose I don't like stuff. That's too easy as long as it works correctly and perfect. Because we all need to be active and use our bodies and muscles to stay young.
I do not have the electrical capabilities of using a large compressor in my garage because it will trip my breakers and a smaller compressor I have found is going to really struggle with a tornador gun so I have found a work around with a blower from Mckees 37 that I used to blow everything out and it works perfectly
@@attention2detailswchelsea I'm actually running into the same issue with a smaller compressor. I have a larger one but it isn't mobile. Also, hello from Landisville :)
I know you’ve said there are uses for steam but you seldomly use it. What about steam for engine compartment? I am so nervous about using a pressure washer. Right now I just clean the engine compartment with APC like every two weeks.
I’ve never done steam for engine bays but you can use it but honestly if you use a pressure washer at a safe distance with a 25-40 degree tip you should be fine. Just blow dry after, start the engine once dry to finish drying and you should be fine. If you’re nervous cover wires or battery with a plastic bag before washing (just remove them before drying)
Hands and hoses.. My head went in the gutter momentarily when I heard that 😂 I just use a wall mounted vacuum in the shop, I've had it so long the company that made it in Europe was bought by Bissell. Can't even remember when we got it but she's a champ with interiors

Chelsea consider the muffler attachment for the Rigid. I have one on mine 👍
How much succion do you lose using that muffler?
Me too

I haven’t but appreciate the recommendation

I have the Dewalt. It replaced my Craftsman ShopVac... I got 10+ years out of the Craftsman
I just detailed a Toyota Rav4.
The carpeting is not "detailer friendly".

I never saw a detailer doing his job with a watch on the wrist. 1st course of detailing.
It helps me not miss calls or texts and control my music or streams and workout stuff
The diameter of the hose will cause the motors to either ramp up or ramp down causing them to be louder
Would a Rigid muffler diffuser help maybe?
I didn’t even know they had that and apparently it can lower it by at least 5 db so it could help but is still an extra cost
@@attention2detailswchelseaIt’s only $17 at Home Depot. Like 1 bottle of product.
I really doubt about the HP rating. 1 HP is 746watts, so 5HP is 3.7KW, and there is no way the vacuume could pull 3.7kW from 110v and 15A breaker
I saw on another vid that the HP ratings are the max for the motors for comparison. They don't operate anywhere near max for the shop vacs.
Awesome video and great information thanks.
Another excellent video. Just ordered the rigid 6hp 4 gallon and the car hose package. Will wear hearing protection when doing it

I find at my age 43 it's the attachment that can kill my ear's not so much my vacuum noise.
Agreed but the crevice nozzle is where you get better end results but they do make it louder

Looks good on the inside Chelsea and you have said before that 95% of the time is vacuuming the interior
Great job cleaning that disaster. That flexible crevice tool looks awesome. Where can I get one?
amzn.to/3U1ggD2
Eventually the dewalt will get louder down the road the plug end will break also
Is there more suction that you can tell with the dewalt vs the rigid?
I think the Ridgid has slightly better suction personally but not much or enough to make a big difference

You have to buy the ridge noise muffler
Rigid is good but if you have a vacuum hose reel with 50 feet of hose you will need 6hp minimum
This is a 10 ft hose and has suitable suction
Have you tried vac master
