The last pub I went, when I was in Ireland for the holidays, I spent 10h there, being offered rounds and paying some on my account as well. When I got there, I had no friends in Ireland. After being there, I left with a bunch of new friends who have invited me to go and visit them, even saying they would arrange accommodations for me. That's why, I might be Swiss and Portuguese because of my parents but my heart is 100% Irish. It's where I feel the most at home. Trying to find a way to move there for good.

I'm an occasional drinker but to treat a social problem like alcohol so lightly seems childish. Let's don't forget the families that have lost their kids/parents or friends due to alcohol; the abused kids and mothers. I liked the jokes but one must wonder: if even the politicians say that there is a social alcohol problem then things are really fucked up.

    • @bigfan1041

The problem is wether it's ok to be paternalistic and force grown people to do what you want them to do ''for their own good'', doesn't seem like that's a good road to go down.
There are significant problems related to alcohol in society, but I don't think government paternalism is the solution.
