    You have to remember - it is established at this point that protomolecule tech is good at re-purposing stuff, including humans ("disassembly reveals useful pathways") in order to complete the "Work" ("We are tools"):
    - Julie was a racing ship pilot, so she was used as a control unit for Eros space drive
    - now Miller had detective's skills, so now "the recording" of his consciousness is used to investigate the current situation
    - Holden has a spaceship with a bit of protomolecule on it, so now he is used to deliver protomolecue and its "Investigator" to the places its needs to go

      Heavy spoiler if you didn't saw season 3 until it's end:
      Ok I was thinking exactly the same. So season 4 was not as good as season 3 I think, but was still very good and they introduced a lot of new concepts.
      I think the books are very good and keep getting better, but they also take risks and maybe a lot of people won't like it. It goes more in an adventure direction (a bit like farscape so still politics are involved) and gets also more star trek like, because they can now travel to other planets and have to make more ethical decisions.
      I can imagine that some people would love to see the conflict between Mars and Earth in about 9 seasons. Some people liked the game of thrones conflicts without the super natural stuff.
      But I think in the expanse, from what I have read so far, they handled science and alleged supernatural stuff very well, even better than in star trek.
      So I really looking forward to this.

    • @mksongbird
      @mksongbird 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ff.mychael i agree the first season of altered carbon didn't deliver fully for me but i am intrigued to check out the second season on the 27 of Feb. plus i think Anthony Mackie is a good actor.
      as for The Expanse; i really do believe it is some of the best sci-fi television you'll find. the attention to detail is incredible and having a roadmap from the books for the trajectory of the show only helps.

    "We are going to win so many awards." I found that actually a reassuring statement about Monica; at least tells me for sure what her motives are. Can't say the same about the cameraman Cohen.
    "I'm a tool that investigates, you're a tool that goes places." The Protomolecule sees all things as tools to accomplish its mission, including what it has from Miller (and probably all the humans it has ingested), and it sees Holden as captain of the Rocinante (which it knows from Miller) as a way to get its Investigator transported where necessary. I think because Miller and Holden "went through some stuff" together, the Protomolecule seized on the emotional depth that was created, which is the strongest link it has between any of the humans it has ingested and anyone who has control of a ship. Plus the glob of Protomolecule gives it a node for stronger communication. I think the Protomolecule put the hat on Miller because Miller was "the investigator" while he was wearing the hat. He was no longer an investigator when he abandoned it. So from the point of view of the Protomolecule (which doesn't really understand human nature yet), the hat is an intrinsic component of "the investigator."
    Monica has shown she knows how to manipulate people. Actually I didn't think of that point before in this episode.

      karthik11512 ... awesome! You’re at the point where the books become serial... by that I mean books 1-4 are all self contained novels, which can be very much read on their own, each s serving up a nice, tight conclusion that leaves you satisfied that the story and narrative contained is very much wrapped up... but starting with Nemesis Games, they become very much serial, with one book leaving off with a huge cliffhanger that the other one picks up right away and are to be thought of as one, seamless narrative/story.
      More specifically, books 5 and 6, Nemesis Games, and Babylon’s Ashes are a pair... the story starts on Nemesis Games, and wraps up in Babylon’s Ashes.
      And books 7, 8, and 9 are a trio... Starting on Persepolis Rising, continuing into Tiamat’s Wrath, and obviously intending to wrap up on the yet-to-be-titled 9th and final book in the entire series, which should hopefully be coming out this June or July... giving me a VERY happy birthday for sure, since my birthday’s in July 9th! And let me just say that I AM SOOOO FUCKING STOKED to finally read book 9!!!! It’s been a year since book 8, and the wait is ALMOST over!!!!!
      You’re going to LOVE the rest of the series... they do just keep getting better and better!!!

    It was a pleasure to watch this reaction-review. Good work!
    I'd say that the last 20 minutes of the episode is the most tense, edge of a seat scene in the entire series. I found myself re-watching it more than 5 times.
    It is so damn good! Emotional, tense, meaningful, facing the Great Unknown and the very likely prospect of certain death - all at once.
    The Miller Thing. The hat might be a hint for the crew or just for Holden OR how Miller sees himself - the residual image of himself the Ring has extracted. Or a call back to the 'Original Ceres Miller' - the Cop Miller. I guess a question of interpretation after all we are talking about a form of (semi/partially) artificial construct. We do not really know how much of human Miller is in this Miller.
    Amos. It is interesting how he's grown - notice that he makes judgement calls now, he literally decided to go for the Ring supporting Holden's order.
    Way to go from 'I do what Naomi tells because she likely knows the best'.
    Have a great day guys!

    Please, someone explain to me how is Holden able to see Miller. If he isn't infected by the PM, then how and why is it only he (Holden) that can see Miller?
    Miller said they kept reconstructing him until or for him to reach his objective... Which is to investigate/ get answers?? And that Holden is his ride... So is it Miller that chose to appear to Holden... But then that is not completely Miller... Was Holden picked because he's the captain?

      @BazookaGamingGirl ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been 2 years so I'm sure you have an answer, but I'll explain anyway.
      You are correct. The PM chose Holden to appear to because he's the captain of the ship and the PM needed somebody to be the "tool that goes places" to go with the "tool that finds things", which is sort of seen later and why I mentioned that you probably know this.

    Regarding the hat: The Ring needs an investigator. It knows from having absorbed Miller's knowledge and memories (and perhaps his personality) that Miller was capable of being a very good investigator. From Miller's memories, it knows that Miller wore a hat when he was an investigator. So when the Ring uses the Miller knowledge and memories and personality to create an investigator, the investigator wears a hat. Not only does that inadvertantly provide some clues to Holden, it also tells you something about how the Ring's intelligence works...

    You were curious about if a religious person would question their faith if proof of life beyond our solar system appeared. I think it depends on each of us and what we actually believe. A lot of non-religious people think we all believe the same thing and they think it makes us science denying idiots. That is far from the truth. I bet we all believe something quite different from each other just as non-religious people each have their own beliefs.
    In my view as someone who believes in God I would have to be a pretty illogical person if I dismissed all what we know of science. I know a good bit of science and it is actually my favorite subject, especially physics and cosmology. It does not rule out the possibility of God for me, it has made me question the writings of humans on the subject though.
    All humans have motivations that give reasons to want to do good but also leave open the possibility to want to control or manipulate etc. So I try not to take the writings of mankind on God too literally. If I took it literally I would have to dismiss things in scientific knowledge that I can see are true. God, if there is one, gave me eyes and my other senses and a brain capable of logic so why would that God not want me to use them?
    If I am wrong and there is no God then I have lost nothing and have lived a life with kindness, love and respect for others and their beliefs. I imagine it is worth the leap of faith.

    • @SnaFubar_24
      @SnaFubar_24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KatSonny It has taken me years to come to these beliefs. I was brought up with a religious teaching from my mom but public schools. I knew my mother was a good person and the lessons she taught me were good ways to behave but the book from which these lessons came said things I was sure did not match my own observations or hers to be honest. She encouraged my interest in science and I have always absorbed as much as I can. It took years of life experience to be a decent judge of human nature at least for me. I have come to the conclusion that the weak link in the connection between science and the bible version of God is mankind. If God exists, science is his/her toolkit.

      @@dcanngieter season 1 i think most people will agree is a slower season. Theres a lot of set up and worldbuilding, personally i like that but i can understand why some dont. It doesnt help that it only covers about 2/3rds of book 1. Book 1 ends season 2 ep 5. Its worth sticking with cus the pace gets faster and faster and faster. The plot becomes more and more intiriguing as you go on. Unlike other shows, when something happens in this universe it has lasting effects unlike other shows and most sci fi where the good guys usually reverse said bad thing which makes for really uninteresting viewing. There will be several game changing events that happen over the series. Some that are yet to happen as they catch up with the books. If you have done season 1 i say get to season 2 ep 5 and finish book 1s plot then decide.

      @@jrich749 Man, imagine giving up on so much epicness as early as in episode 1 😕 It kinda hurts thinking about it.
      Edit: my bad. He said "season 1". That's a fair chance to give a show, I think. The only problem being that with The Expanse, season 2 is where everything pays off and then exponentially ramps up. So a lot of people are missing out due to the fact that it's such a slow burn (the masterpiece that is Black Sails also suffered from this). Hence why season 1 is so much better in retrospect.
