@ Hi! Just made a type correction to my original comment. :) I do hope you guys enjoy this series. For me it’s crazy watching this first episode and catching things.
The difference is Oz owns his shit whereas Walt is delusional and pussyfoots around all the time, trying to act like everything he does is for his family and he’s always the victim.
There's more nuance than that...manipulation across the board in a story isn't a problem. And it isn't Walt's only issue. It's the conceited and insecure nature of him that makes him insufferable. Walt looks down on people in the world he's dealing with because he comes from "prestige" and doesn't respect that even a lowly street thug has more knowledge of the game than him. Without spoiling, Penguin clearly has a "respect" for the game and the slums he comes from.
I think they're pretty different and that Oz's manipulation is easier to stomach. He mostly tells people what they'd like to hear whereas Walt does a lot of gaslighting.
Hard to believe a hot charming Irish guy is underneath all that Penguin makeup. Colin Farrell's acting is top notch, but shout out to the makeup department as well.
@@Victor-qx3vx I don't think it's so simple. The show frames her as villain then sympathetic at ep4 then back to villain if not something between. In any case, it's not surprising people wouldn't know exactly this early into the series and might think someone like Oz or Sofia are anti-heroes even if by the end of the series it's clear they aren't
@@themarkofoctopus1548 Like I said, I think we only know that at the end of the season. It's not surprising why people would *think* they're anti-heroes until the last 2 or 3 episodes.
@@blinkt3um3 Saying that your view of character interactions changes when you’ve seen their arcs complete is spoilers? What are you on? No specifics we’re given even on how the person felt about how it changed their perspective
The story you’re thinking of with the scarf and the head falling off is from the book “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and the story is “The Girl with the Green Ribbon”
Sofia Falcone is played by Cristin Milioti. She's always been a good, underrated actress. I'm glad she finally got her flowers she deserves. You might have recognized her from "The Wolf of Wallstreet" or "Fargo Season 2" if you saw that
After seeing how this ended, it hit harder than ashtray in euphoria 😭. I was just pissed and in shock for a while. This show deserves all the awards coming it's way 💯
You're in for a treat best show of the year... maybe the last few years but that's just me overall fantastic performances throughout by all actors great music great storyline great symbolisms it's just a damn good show
Cut him deeper with those words than Sofia with that wire. Hit him in his dreams, his idea of himself. Who could inflict a worse wound on him? Not many, no spoilers. The man is messed up, but relatable in a terrible way. He just has the courage and the lack of empathy to go all the way with his twisted dream. A terrible person to emulate, but you still almost wish to have his level of drive and commitment, albeit hopefully for more noble pursuits. The craziest people in this series are definitely some of the most compelling, unsurprisingly. Great acting all around, pretty darn good writing too. I'm just so relieved it stayed good all the way through.
I really like the show because it's simply a good crime drama and doesn't lean into the superhero stuff too much which I'm not crazy about. And Colin Farrell is an amazing actor. I love him in pretty much anything he's in. That's the reason I watched the show in the first place.
When I first saw the opening episode and realized that the part of the Penguin🐧was being played by Colin Farrell, I couldn't believe it. What a makeup and prosthetic job.
Colin Ferrell's dialect coach is Jessica Drake. She's 1 of the best in the business. She recently has been working with Kelly Rielly, who plays Beth Dutton in the show Yellowstone. You would never know she's British in real life because she does that Midwest accent sooo good. It's thanks to Jessica Drake. She's worked big-time actors for 25yrs
Colin Farrell is outstanding, he really disappears inside the character, but it's Cristin Milioti who steals every scene she's in. Two Emmy worthy performances for sure. It's crazy to think one of the best TV shows of the year is a spinoff of a superhero movie, and I would argue The Penguin far outshines The Batman too.
Maple. The story is called The Green Ribbon. It can be found in a lot of short story compilations, currently it can be found in "In a dark dark room and other scary stories"
So not sure if yall have watched the sopranos but after finishing it and then watching this I saw so many parallels lol. And its not just because of oz's relationship with his mom but both cristin milioti and Michael zegan who play Alberto and Sofia had bit roles on the later seasons of the sopranos. Also, oz was talkin to Clancy brown who plays sal maroni. Who's a voice acting legend. In particular with DC comics characters and Mr. EUGENE KRABS himself.
DC has bombed 98% of what they've made in the last 10 years. It has nothing to do with DC, it has everything to do with Matt Reeves, Lauren LeFranc, and the cast
i think what makes this series so unique is how it appears less from the Batman universe and more from the Sopranos universe - ultimately, it's a very well written mafia crime drama
There's a behind the scenes video of when they wrap filming and he starts talking with his normal voice/accent while wearing the full prosthetics and it feels DISTURBING. Like after 8 whole episodes of Oz, hearing an irish voice come out of that body feels so jarring.
"I love her outfit" A statement that will be said every episode! They fed us in every one. Usually I'm against watching the Inside the episode because HBO found out with the end of game of thrones that they could manipulate the audience into believing what wasn't shown but this one is alright, I think.
I'm convinced Colin Farrell was hired to play the actor who plays the Penguin in behind the scenes interviews, and that the actual actor pretty much looks and sounds like the Penguin in real life... Because NO WAY.
2:24 how did the other guy not hear penguin smashing the door, and when he walked in he saw the penguin turned around with the Jewels in his hand, makes no sense
I been lookin forward to seeing y'all watch this. I really enjoyed how y'all analyzed the characters in 'Breaking Bad', especially Walt. So I'm excited to hear what yall had to say here. 🔥🤘🏾
Can I ask why you guys always censor language in your videos? Other reaction channels don’t do this. A little silly you cut out a guy saying “bitch” but keep in him getting shot to death.
youtube's AI is better at recognizing swearing than violence. if its too gory we'll censor gore too but we try to let as much slide as we can without getting our videos demonetized. generally it's easier to censor more and only have to upload once than test your luck and have to re upload the video over and over until it stops getting demonetied for crude language. if other channels just let it ride, then they're making a calculated risk that some of their videos will just be fully demonetized.

“So he does makeup every time?”
Nope. It was actually easier just to put a curse on him for the filming of this.
😂😂😂
Literally everything in this ep is in a different context after the finale, incredible writing.
That's all said and done I kind of like Al.. just a druggie really
Best show of the year. No contest. Ferrell and Milioti both deserve Emmys.
Man if they hated Walt’s terrible manipulations they are going to *despise that in this series
No not necessarily

The way Colin adds that slack jaw stare with Oz just adds so much to the make-up work.
Colin is the best actor of this generation for sure.
My favorite series of the year. Colin and Cristin are perfect in their roles

so glad they're doing the Inside The Penguin episodes as well

Glad I wasn't the only one 🤣 all the way the the finale I was like lemme fix you lol
I always love seeing Clancy Brown aka Mr. Crabs in anything.

Yes long live the Kurgan! xD
Great as Lex Luthor in the animated Superman/Justice League series.

Close. It's in "In a Dark, Dark Room" but also by Alvin Schwartz. I thought it was SSTD too until googling it

oh that last episode...that's gonna break them.
soft spoiler
Cristin milioti who play sofia, will easily get the Emmy awards for best actress ..her performance is so incredible...its a wrap for the competition

So much could’ve been avoided had Alberto simply shot him when he caught him in that safe.
