HONEST REVIEW! Is a Disney Cruise a Good Idea? Especially During Spring Break??

  • Disney Cruise Line... people either love it or hate it! This is my honest review of our cruise experience. To be fair, we were cruising during spring break which is one of the busiest times of the year. Was this a mistake? Was it a good cruise, just the wrong time of year? Or was it the best cruise ever??
So many factors go into making a cruise good or not. I will go over what I liked and what I didn't like about sailing on Disney Dream.

I always say Disney needs to have an adults only ship (for all the Disney adults) with a villains theme ship. I’d sign up for that in a minute!!! 😂

They almost have that on the transatlantic crossings and the Panama Canal full transits. Before The Blip, there would be less than a hundred children and 2000 adults on the Disney Magic's transatlantic crossings! On one Panama Canal full transit, there were maybe a dozen children. It will be interesting to see what the ratio is on the Vancouver to Sydney sailing which had been sold out but cancellations have made a few staterooms available though they've quickly been rebooked. The most children booked will be whenever they're off school and on the short weekend cruises but Disney does a fantastic job of keeping them locked up in the kids clubhouses only allowing them out for meals…

My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on the Disney Dream in 2019 and it was amazing!! They offer so much for just adults. You and Jason should definitely go by yourselves someday!! We are getting ready to celebrate our 24th on the Dream at the end of September and can’t wait🎉🎉

We love Disney Cruise Line. The kids don’t bother me, in fact watching kids makes the experience even better and happier. Kind of like doing Christmas without kids is no where near as much fun because you can’t see the happy faces. Disney has plenty for adults if adults want a break too. Glad you had a great time!

We did a Disney cruise this past January and although we had fun I won’t do a Disney cruise ever again. Our kids are a little older and we can have more fun on other cruise lines without so many screaming babies and toddlers. Parents didn’t care if their littles were screaming. They didn’t want to miss anything and dragged those littles everywhere.

My last Carnival cruise had so many kids too. It was crowded at the pools, mini golf, all activities, trivia, all dining, not very different than a Disney cruise. Just one with Mickey Mouse and one without. It was nice seeing famines enjoying time with each other.

We have done 7 Disney Cruises, most of them being 13 nights or longer. The longer cruises typically have less children due to school schedules however there are MANY more adults. I have MS and Anxity pretty bad so we discovered (due to a 50% off cruise credit) Concierge. It is alot like when you and your daughter were relaxing on your Verandah, it's quiter, less crowded and you have your own lounge and sundeck. You can request which table at the main dining rooms. For instance the MDR feel crowded and chaotic to me, so we request a table along the wall. You also get advanced entry to the stage shows, so you don't have to fight the crowd. We ❤ Disney and have our next cruise in 336 days on the Fantasy from Ft. Lauderdale to Barcelona Spain 🇪🇸 It will be our second time and I can't wait 🎉❤

Hiii! I actually surprised my daughters with that same cruise in July 2019. It wasn't quite as crowded as your cruise was, but there was a large amount of cruisers. We will be back on Disney Dream next year when it debuts in Europe..SOOO EXCITED!!

  • @pedrozatravel

We did Disney Alaska last Sept.. surprising still a lot of kids.. avg 30min wait for character meet and greets.. we did our pool day on the last sea day early around 11am until maybe noon.. only 5 people in the pool not including us.. but it sure got busy later in the day.. Never did the skip a night for dinning but we must have had pizza 6 out of 7 nights :) and never missed the ice cream. We did only 1 room service late night on our first sea day.. So still a lot of kids.. but a lot of adults also.. its Alaska :) heated fresh water is a plus.

Yes, I’ve been on 2 Disney Cruises. The last one was back in 2014, I think The Dream? I forget which ship. We had an inside cabin and the rooms had the “Port Hole” . It was like a real port hole/window that had live camera to show the outside and every so often, you’d see a Disney character, like Winnie the Pooh and Piglet or Stitch, lol. It was pretty cool. Yes, I loved the Disney Cruise. It’s just so expensive but I definitely want to go on another Disney Cruise. So glad y’all had fun 🤩

We also just did a Spring Break Disney cruise on the Wonder. It was a 5 day Mexico cruise and was also filled to capacity. We cruised on the Wonder out of Galveston in 2018 and it was drastically more crowded this time. Our kids are teens so we were able to spend more time in the adults only areas, but they were also busy. Your tips are great for finding quiet spaces on a crowded ship!

We are gold members on DCL, have sailed five Disney cruises. As adults, we try to schedule our Disney cruise during time when kids are in school. Every time we’ve picked a date ( Sept, May, Oct) while the kids are in school, Disney decides to make that sailing a themed sailing ( like Halloween on the High Seas, Marvel cruise, etc). I think Disney knows these are low occupancy times, so changes the theming to increase bookings. We are taking a break from Disney cruises for a while. Maybe we will try the Global ship once it gets refurbished.

We were on the Disney Wonder back in 2007 (just a few years ago). Our family of 4 (now family of 5) had an absolute blast. I wish I would have had some videos to watch prior to going so I knew what to look for and what to expect. We were "blinded" by all the excitement and now wish we could have done more. Aqua Duck was non-existent then. With all that said, Castaway Cay was magical and this family vacation will go in the books as the best one we have ever done. Disney Cruise Line is head and shoulders above all others (we've sailed with 2 other cruise lines). Nothing more magical than Disney. Thanks for all your videos.

Of course it was busy but that is the joy of it.. Knowing other families are experiencing the happiness, stressfulness and the memories are being made. We lost a son to SIDS 6 year ago.. So take it from me when I say make the memories, take the trip.. snap the photos.. It's worth it all.

I can definitely say that you should know yourself and learn about the cruise/cruiseline/time of year. Then chose according to your cruise style. If my children were young or if I had grandchildren, I'd take a Disney cruise but preferably during an off season period. I am more concerned about crazy adults rather than children in a Disney setting. However, until I am a grandmother with grandchildren of appropriate sailing age, I will not be sailing on Disney during any season. To each, their own.

You can tell you were on an extremely full ship, because they were offering beauty and the beast as an afternoon performance. That’s pretty rare.
I’m always going to suggest getting off at Castaway first thing and taking a tram to pelican plunge and then getting back on board right after lunch because the ship is almost always empty. It’s a great time to go swimming in the pool or hit trivia without nearly as many competitors.
The only thing I would mention is that if you’re going to go ahead and skip MDR dinner, it’s really polite if you know in advance to let your serving team know the night before.
I also think the girls had the right idea about getting into the pools first thing when you get on board. They fill up pretty quick, so I always recommend pools first when they’re less crowded and then after a little bit of swimming dry off and go explore.
