Commander 690B Takeoff and Landing

- I took this video for my own use to prepare for training, but there was enough "good" stuff I thought worth sharing. Beginning of video could have been better, but I wanted to pay attention to the engine starts. At least you can hear those Dash 10's spool up. Occasionally, you'll hear a beeping sound during flight. That's whenever the elevator trim is in motion. Enjoy!

Those Dash-10's sound like heaven. I would buy that just for the aural euphoria.
How do you know they are -10s? By the sound?
Been on a 441 Conquest II with the same engines. They sure have a unique hum to them.

And the irony is that we are now looking for a Westwind II (with freon air) to compliment the 690. Looking like Ted Smith machines will comprise a significant part of my flying career. No complaints...

I'm loving the 690, but missing the Aerostar. The Aerostar just seemed to be the perfect plane. If you can get a 700 HP machine, you will have some serious fun. I saw a personal best of 273 kts true at FL250, so yes, you WILL compete with turbos at piston prices. Plus, the Aerostar is fun to fly.
The one thing I did not like about the 690B was that you could not show any forward white lights above 156 knots. I like being visible, especially in the LA basin. Other than that, a superb aircraft. Ours had the dash 5s. If I remember 717.5 shp per side.
Good job keeping it straight down ... Commanders are usually all over the place

I'll always cherish my time in the Aerostar. Flying the Commander has been wonderful, but for the money, the Aerostar is such a beast for the buck! I once saw 383 knots ground speed, with 273 true on one flight. No other piston aircraft within civilian ranks can even hope to do that. If you can find a 700 hp with decent avionics and good logs, have serious fun with it. Best piston plane in the world!

How you liking the Commander? I have an old piston powered AC 520 myself that I fly all the time (I love her to bits), but I'm thinking of going where you've been and getting an Aerostar in the future for my longer travels. You get a lot of bang for the buck with an Aerostar - good handling and almost turboprop speeds at piston prices. Ultimately a 690 would be my dream, but I can't afford a turbine right now.
Do you still have the 210? The 690 is a nice plane but the aerostar is less than half the cost for operation...and in many cases, faster too. We had a 690 for a while, but then went to a Citation X. Screw the Westwind...push for the Citation. The Citation can go up faster then a Westwind can get down and the Westwind CAN keep up with a Citation...if you pull the throttles back...lolol. Always enjoy your vids and no offense...the wife takes a better video. Wheels down... :o)

Sounds like a Metroliner .
Yes, both have the Garrett TPE-331 engines, but the Metroliner has twice the HP. Wonder what it'd be like strapping those on the Commander...!!
I spent two years flying a Metro. My ears still ring.
@@lbowsk Always wanted to fly on one or a Merlin. They seem like cool planes, but unfortunately history has treated the King Airs better probably due to maintinence.

Never seen anything other than Garretts on a Commander.
Tiny cabin and limited payload... Doesn't compare to a turbine.
