170 on dirt is crazy
Some would say unbelievable on such a short circuit.
In a corner...... that's beyond nuts
Ong bruh one move all it takes to take u out an another person
Nightmare degrees of crazy
Late models were doing close to that at the Bristol Dirt Nationals the past few years. In 2001 or 2002, World of Outlaws hosted 410 sprint cars at Bristol on dirt, and they were clocking almost 160.
I would've loved to see that officer's face when he looked down on saw 168 on the radar gun
Yeah? I ignored that part because a cop is completely irrelevant to the story and makes it obviously just a long carried rumor.
@@GoatyHerpswhat are you talking about? Why would it make it obvious that it was a rumor, or make anything obvious
@@GoatyHerpsit's ok bub. I don't see anyone here who fcking asked kid 😂 jo one cares if you wanna whine that "cops couldnt ever have done radar!!!!!!" Noooooooooo! 😂😂😂
@charliebrown1134 When you add things like, "That thar car done got clocked by the poh-lease" it is pretty safe to assume it is not true.
Why was a cop there with a radar gun?
Why would he be checkinf speeds of race cars?
It's okay to ask questions.
In fact, the future of humanity demands it.
@GoatyHerps in the video, if you paid any attention, he said yhe cop was there working security. It would be pretty reasonable for him to see how fast they were actually going.
The 80s what a time to be alive
*sniff sniff*
There was something ‘ecstatic’ about the 80s right? 😂
@ViceVersace well kinda. Less rules in racing. F1 was insane at the time and nascar was getting mad fast
@@daftwatcher F1 rules are very tight now with track limits R&D and such
@@mdacosta7013track limits should always be a rule on road courses are you serious???? you race on the track you shouldn't be allowed to leave the track lmfaoooo
Talladirty.
😂😂😂😂
and thats why- THIS WAS THE FASTEST DIRT TRACK EVER BUILT IN NIRTH AMERICA
i appreciate s1aps lack of a “youtube accent”
he’s all around a grounded dude.
if you see him at a track, say “hey”.
he was super nice to my friends and i at IRP
“NIRTH” 😂
I literally JUST moved near Brunswick. So glad this popped up.
It’s on 82 and 99 by Friendly Express and DG. Awesome track, seen it today actually. Lol
Coastal Empire represent
Of course they've changed it now so it's not the same.
Fantastic track!
I grew up in Brunswick
Bring that shit back tho
Hell yea 😂
yeah why not, and instead of a outside wall add ramps so if you make one mistake you better have a parachute
Precious black oil
Nah made for bad racing
SPRAY THAT OIL AND RUN IT BACK SLICKTRACK
Damn, they were like 70% of the way to just having the thing be paved lol.
Exactly 😂
If they'd had sprinkled gravel in every time thwy reoiled it. After awhile I'd be.
170 on a half mile circle track with very little banking. Theres no way
I mean your almost driving on a piece of rubber.
I love how everyones just blindly believing that a late model could somehow go 170mph on a half mile track
They did though well 160's
I saw it with my own eyes. It was insane. They wouldn't race until spectators moved 10 rows back from the catch fence
My dad used to race there for the big money races. It was the only track he seemed a little afraid of.
This track need to come back as the fastest dirt track event
They still race on it.
@@NativeSkater1000 he probably means the old configuration
Nothing better than late models imfao.
Golden Isles Speedway is my home track. Thank you for mentioning it!
Wayneville on the Glynn-Brantley border right…..
"lets coat this dirt track with black oil, what could possibly go wrong?"
Florida uses oil on some of their track. Dirt has more sand in it, they use the tar oil as a binder.
@@pat36a what kind of oil do they use?
@HoltAircraft when I was racing back in the 80s, it was asphalt oil. Stuff used to make asphalt. Before it's processed, sometimes it was just used oil on the smaller ones. It was a pain in the ass to wash off. Jacksonville Speedway , Fla. is the only name that comes to mind.
@@HoltAircraftSunflower oil. Geez.
@@pat36aso, technically, putting asphalt oil in the dirt, binding it, shouldn't be called a dirt track anymore!?
Right?
Sorry for my poor English 😅
I can't be the only one who wants a movie or documentary based on this 😂 friggin insane
I remember when the track was like that badass racing back in those days . Them Hava /Tampa series late models were fastest I ever seen there . I miss them bigger tracks.
Still the fastest track in the south 4/10 of a mile insurance was reason for down size but the track still fast the late models have to be going either 120 to 135
Almost reminds me of racing clay oval rc cars. The clay packs in and gets a serious blue groove down low and becomes hard as asphalt by the mains.
There was a track in Albon ,IL that BLUE GROVED it was FAST 😅
You should have seen the pretty rainbows that used to run off that track in the rain . Those folks down there really knew how to t6ake care of there waterways
damn, I didn't know late models could even go that fast
They didn't. This is just some more BS to add to the rest of the internet.
every ticket that cop ever wrote for speeding should be thrown out
Why?
@@mrfixitusa6165late models ain't hitting no 160 lmfao
@flyneco22 you obviously have no idea. I've seen it with my own eyes. This is my hometown track. World of Outlaw cars were doing 170 mph lap times the year before they destroyed the track
I feel like SRX should race there
Fun fact, the picture showcased when he mentions the police officer and the radar gun is Scott Bloomquist's Late Model
When sprint cars refuse to race on your track due to safety concerns, you know you made history
“Jerry was a racecar driver, he drove so goddamn fast”
My dad raced there for years. He said the drivers had a meeting about the speed. The drivers were concerned the dirt track cars werent designed to take an impact into the wall at that speed and someone may get killed. Thats why they cut the track down.
Oiled clay is amazing. Some RC tracks are oiled clay and it’s a totally different surface to race on
The title had me thinking this'd be a video about a dirt track that was built in the shortest amount of time.
A hundred seventy ON DIRT?!
That even might be the fastest dirt track ever in the whole world xD
Lancaster motor speedway in SC is also very fast, it’s a 1/2 mile track. World of outlaws races there and we’re hitting 160+ mph. They said they weren’t coming back until they installed catch fences lol
hell yeah my hometown track
I lived less than 1/4 mile from the golden isle speedway in 2000, when they would start the race pictures on my walls would vibrate. a total symphony of exhaust.
Proud to say I live only an hour away. One of the best dirt tracks in America!
I love the simple look of these dirt late models.
Definitely miss the look of these cars!
OMG that sounds amazing, jesus...
I grew up on 99 before bladen rd. On nights where the wind was right you could hear the track from my house. I miss those times.
They ain't lying I've been on that track
watch the interview of the guys who drove it. one guy says if they clocked him at 168 then had to be doing at least 180 with a small smirk on his face. a true racer
Wish they made a track like the old one here at GIS !
Yes it was along with Waycross when it was oil base and painted white lined on the front stretch lol. 21
They are drifting around the corner. That's insane just WOW
Thanks for shedding light on dirt racing! Love it
This track is in my hometown. They had the option to add walls or slow it down. They decided to slow it down. I haven't been back since
Definitely truth here I grew up going to this track and eventually raced on it. It was so sad to see it changed so drastically and now it’s just another dirt track.
I just wanted to clear some things up for those of you who are watching this and are not into racing: A track does not have a speed itself, so no track can be "fast". What the narrator is referring to in this video is the speed of the cars that used to race on it were going faster than what they did on other tracks. The cars are what is carrying the speed, while traveling along the track - which is always stationary.
Went to my first Dirt Track race in St. Helens Oregon about three weeks ago. What a riot ! You really have to be sitting there as they pass to comprehend how fast they really are, and that Dirt is like concrete. I'll be going again
Someone recreate this facility with modern safety upgrades! I’d be down to travel for these races.
I remember the late models coming out of turn 2 on three wheels ..... even had spectator racing.... then went to front strip drag racing...... 80's n 90's were the best
One of the best dirt facility’s there is
There are a few roads in the mountains where I live where they do this. It creates something similar to heavily used asphalt. There are a few holes and ruts but other than that you can send it and you can get some good controlled slides in.
Love those right turns
HELL YEA!! THE SRX SERIES PUT DOWN THE OIL, CALL IT TALLIDAMNASTY!!
nascar would probably say no to this, but then backtrack and say "sure fuck it why not?"
Some of my friends races there in 90s called racetrack Black Gold.
Now the fast track is volunteer speedway
Family used to race at Golden Isles a lot, I grew up only 30 mins from Brunswick. The baddest track in the south East, for sure
Why would they ever get rid of that? Sounds fucking awesome
170MPH in a Late Model! Holy Crap!!! I don’t care who you are but that takes balls of titanium!!!
I drove sprint cars in a sim. So fun just finding that sweet spot on the steering, then ya just pin it and micro adjust the wheel.
"dirt." they just made asphalt without the aggregate. 😂
Georgia doing Bristol Dirt before it was cool.
AYO I live in walking distance of that track, good times there
160 on dirt tha5s gotta be scary
That’s so cool! And absolutely insane going that fast on a dirt track🤣
My mom raced a dirt outlaw latemodel here a few times when she raced and my dad was her pit crew and crew chief and engine builder car builder ect but they said that this was crazzy and a blast and they had to really buckle the car down as in add extra Zeus fastners to the body and made sure the hood pins was adjusted and as tight as possible and that the body pannels had no edges that could get caught by the air and also they made sure that the car was as aerodynamic and as much downforce as possible body wise but atill legal and she said they was flat footed whole way around but made for boring racing cause it was follow the leader the whole race from lap 10-last lap but if the latemodels rab thier feature first then they had side by side racing for the first 10 laps and it was wild lile it was the last lap cause as soon as the line was worked in it was then follow the leader and very hard to pass so you had to pass as much as you coulf at the start of the race. I wish i could have raced on the old surface but closest thing to this i raced at every sat night was mobile intl speedway half mile high bank copy of the old bristol lay out and no walls except front stretch and i have ran a sprint car there twice and the police officer clocked me at 175 mph fown front stretch we never lift at all and it was scary the forst time i ran a sprint there coming from a pro truck and sportsman car which the truck had 405 hp to a 750 hp sprint was a huge jumk but fun and worth it
I grew up going to this track, and NEVER knew! 🤣
Imagine a sprint car wide open on that 😳😳
Belleville in Belleville KS,,I heard is one of the fastest dirt tracks in America
Syracuse speedway, 1mile dirt oval 410 sprints hitting 200mph
My brother wrecked there back in the 90's he was blessed he didn't get killed.
The legend Mike Duvall in the starting clip
I raced there back then and it was fast and fun. And Ferrin was a great promoter to race with
I do not think the track was as fast as the info S1apShoes has found but it is faster than every other track in the USA.
i was thinking of pikes peak but this doesnt disappoint
I race here in the crown vic division its still so fun even though we aren't going 170 lol
That place used to be bad fast. It was a blast to watch the late models there.
That's nucking Futs! 😂 Separating the men from the boys 😅
Some guy in the 80's: "Hey guys check out how fast and stable the cars get if we put a shit ton of oil and pressure all over the dirt!"
Literally everyone else with a car, driving by on a paved road: "Uh... Wow man, you come up with that yourself?"
Man I grew up going to this track. It's only 15 minutes from where I grew up. I thought it was asphalt when I was a kid.. Do a full length video on the slapshoes! S1lapShoes
I wonder if my grandads team ever ran here. Are there any drivers, crew, or owners from the southeast area that raced in the 80s that have heard of Custom Chassis. They were out of Columbus, GA. From what i’ve heard they built a lotta fast cars. Won the Dirt Track World Championship one year. I’d love to hear some stories if anyone has any or have heard of them.
If the dirt is too dirty, just cover it in motor oil. 'Murica.
i grew up watchin em race on this from 04 up until a few years ago, but my dad used to race on it in the late 80s and it’s a small small town comparatively speaking. but damn do we have a lot of speed demons
I talked to the owner of the Golden Isles speedway recently, he said he wants to make a go kart track in the infield. I'd love to see a road course on all the other land he's got out there. We can always hope😅
Who knew that track is 10 minutes from my parents house growing up , those races always kicked ass.😊
Never will forget when Buck Simmons was driving my dads car. we went there, and he said that's some scary shit. That's impressive to scare Buck.
Chuck Chitty was a beast there back in the day
I go there all the time but Kyle Bronson sold it and the new owner is running down the track the other day I was there and they had to wait 3 hours for an ambulance to get there
There used to be a three-quarter mile blacktop circle track out by Longmont Colorado and it was just a fishbowl you turn left and held it on the floor. Now it's all houses.
This would make a great full length video
It's like a solid rubber surface is the best way I can describe it
And now the owner only races like 3 times a month when he used to open the track almost every weekend and tried to make more money by letting kia store all their vehicles from the port next to the track, but wont build a drag strip in the now vacant space. I live in Brantley County which is the other county its next to
You've gotta have a large set to tip it in at 170mph😮
170 mph on a half mile... Joeseph Joiner from HTF would shirt his pants!
„turn 1“ oh how can I miss that
If you put another surface on dirt, it is not a dirt track anymore.
Someone needs to calibrate their radar gun. They were nowhere near 170 mph on a half mile. They wouldn't even have had the gears to accomplish it. Cup cars at Bristol don't even come close to that.
Bad comparison, cars and track are no were near the same. 170 is just a speed at a the end of the straight, certain time. Average times would be much lower.
100%
I did some math and I agree. A while back a sprint car posted an average lap speed of 150mph at Bristol (which is the same size). That’s an average gforce of 3.58g. 3.58g is the average g not the peak g because they weren’t pulling many gs down the straight. I don’t think they were pulling 3.58g let alone more than that on fancy dirt.
I don’t know the average lap time or speed on this dirt track but I doubt they would have enough longitudinal grip to get to 170mph and then slow down for a corner on dirt without being all wheel drive and or with a parachute.
@@pat36ayou are clueless
@@grantlauzon5237how did they avg 150 when the record is 148?
That place looks wild!
Ironic that oil gave grip! 😂
Jax Raceways was that messy stuff also. 1/2 mile oval had Grand National races there, interesting history.
Closed in '04, was located in Jacksonville FL.
I went there often back in the
80s. Street stock, mine stocks,
Could flat foot it all the way around. It was a crazy fact track.
