    My dad and I are doing a Spartan race in two months. He's made 2 trifectas now and it'll be my first ever race! Really excited but nervous. Ahh, wish me luck!!!

      You'll be great! Well - you'll do great as long as you are prepared. ha. Sounds like your dad has some good experience, so I would follow his lead and would get some miles in to build endurance. Good luck!!

      I'm about to do a OCR in about 6 months. How did yours go? Lessons? Yer training? Regrets in hindsight?

    Great video Ryan! Thanks for sharing this info! I’ll definitely keep watching! Would love to see interviews of pros and specifically asking what their training looks like.

    Love your podcast! Glad to see you here on TH-cam now! There isn’t nearly enough obstacle course racing information on TH-cam! I’m working on getting some out there as well. Just some racer insight for me! I don’t have all the cool knowledge you do ha.

    Weird question: I've been doing a lot of focus on grip lately and I'm struggling with callous rips. Any tips?

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! I’d grind them down with a pumice stone once or twice a week. When I do end up ripping I use a balm called “climb on” to help the recovery.

    Hey Ryan,
    I am running my first Spartan Race(s) which will be a Trifecta weekend in May this year. I am curious, with a Super/ Beast race, what would you estimate is the longest distance of continuous running in those races? Such as 4 miles of continuous running, Followed by obstacles and additional 1 or 2 mile bouts here and there?
    Trying to come up with a training routine. Thank you for you time.

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I’d focus more on time than distance and try to get on trails. The beast will likely take you over 3 hours so getting at least a two hour run/hike would be ideal. Also plan some back to back long runs like 90 mins on Saturday and Sunday to prep for the back to back races.

      Thank you for your response.
      I am currently 32 and I average 15-20 miles (fastest 2mile is 13:37) of running a week in addition to weight lifting M-F. I have been following this routine for about 18 months. I prefaced with all that to say, my goal is to qualify this year for 2023 US Elite Series, and wanted to ask, in your experience/opinion be, is there a higher chance of placing in top 5 for age group, or top 10 in elites. Thank you again.

      @@sungatti4718 In my expierence it would be easier to quality in the Age Group.

    8:36 "its not great for building muscle".. have you ever seen guys like Matt Fraser or Rich Froning (ofcourse you have), they are huge (but that could also be because of substance abuse). The Women at the crossfit games are also huuuge.

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are all yoked! What I am saying here is that there are better ways to build muscle more efficiently. You can build muscle through crossfit, but there are much better ways. Plus the games level athletes are doing plenty of hypertrophy work outside of their metcons to support the strength they need.

    • @jmcantila9104
      @jmcantila9104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not ideal for building muscle because it lacks Time under tension, efficient progression, and efficiency in general. Fraser, Froning and other elite athletes are the excpetion. Though I do see your point, and muscle is bound grow a little bit in activities like this
