Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello are musical geniuses.
Stunning song reminiscent of 60’s Bacharach. Elvis Costello sings this song so beautifully.❤
RIP, Burt Bacharach. What a brilliant run.
Elvis Costello is one of the greatest lyricists is music history. The words he uses to paint a picture are so unique and intelligent. And Burt Bacharach? My all-time favorite composer/arranger. The album is a masterpiece.
Well said! Totally agreed
Just revisited this today. Such beauty. RIP Burt Bacharach.
yep just brilliant
Me, too. Two incredible talents coming together. There is nothing better.
This is so beautiful... the whole album is a piece of art
It changed me. For real. I had no idea this could happen. Music, right? I'll be forever grateful
Truly is something special.
Absolutely🌺
Yeah
No truer words have ever been spoken.
Costello's voice still has the same quality, clarity and tone as 30 years ago.
Imagine being able to write such wonderful music AND sing like this.
I have said for years as a singer/songwriter myself in awe of this album, that it could be used to teach a Master Class in writing/arranging/ producing. There isn't a wasted note, a wasted syllable on the whole record.
As the same, I completely agree.
You are SO right
@@candia_musica I recommend secret, profane and sugarcane. Its a deep, beautifully written album.
Explain to me what's the meaning behind a) the toledo ohio spain metaphor, and
b) the ohio spain reference and that of florence, paris and rome??

If you don’t own the Painted From Memory album, get it and know that 3/3/2023 a beautiful box set of all their work together will be released along with a 2CD set & a 4 vinyl set. (Amazon has them). Rest in light & love and thank you for all the beautiful music Burt.❤
This was a Grammy Winning album...every song is perfect...listen to "Painted From Memory"....completely awesome...my wife and I have been dancing to this album for years...Burt Bacharach just has such an incredible touch in crafting a song...and it's difficult to beat Elvis Costello sing a ballad...
Kalani Ayau What a beautiful thing, you and your wife dancing, enjoying this album. A dream I hope will be for me one day🌹
Ah, if only my wife would listen....
Fam. You couldn't have described this album any better.
@@bensongbenson Don't bank on it. I give it a 1% chance. My own EX-wife, some of my best memories are rooted in the times she reached out to acknowledge her ocasional enjoyment of the music but she listened for me because she loved me. It was an illusion people offer when they love someone. Get over it, is what I say, and you will still make those attempts to sway people regardless.
It's great that you dance to this with your wife. Ironic considering most of the songs are about sadness and loss. Maybe you two just appreciate what you have more...
One of the best musical collaborations ever
Grown folks music. The artistry of these two for me was an unusual pairing, or so I thought, until hearing this compilation of their work together. I get it now. The melodies and how the lyrics are treated are,for me, purely and masterfully done. This one in my opinion is a classic album.
So blessed to have been alive to enjoy these 2 Great Musicians!❤🎉
RIP BURT😢
To a lover of Bacharach and Elvis, this song/arrangement/performance is pure Heaven.
Check out at 2:37 when Burt turns and flashes a grin to the woman over his left shoulder. She smiles back. Burt, you sly devil!
One of the great records of the last 25 years. Perfect.
Agreed.
Elvis has the spark needed for a Bachrach song. Cool.
RIP Burt Bacharach. What a loss. So happy he left us with all this great music.
Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello have transformed life with this music, it is so great,
so warm, so real. Thank You Both,
Paul Shandling, Chicago
RIP Mr Bacharach from a fan from Toledo Ohio
Toledo is an accomplished work of art.... Few songs have achieved my favorites list but this one is enduring the test of time.....
Santos Valdez I just discovered it this year! Wonderful!
Explain to me what's the meaning behind a) the toledo ohio spain metaphor, and
b) the ohio spain reference and that of florence, paris and rome??
I’ll be in Toledo, Spain on March 26!
Burt left us today (02.9.23) but what a body of work, songs that will endure forever.
I agree, it is almost painfully beautiful.
I'd have paid a LOT of money to witness and hear this sublime concert
RIP Burt, an absolute legend!
I saw Elvis and Burt on this tour, Autumn 1998, in Chicago. Burt had his "large band" and they played some Costello, and some Bacharach tunes. A memorable concert!
And as I am a native of southern Ohio, Toledo has always made me smile; it's like to the Spanish City.
I was at that great concert too.
@@Biffer28 Amazing!!!!
Thank you, Mr Costello.
Bacharach is my all time favorite musician, I am so glad you collaborated with him. What a joy and pleasure that must have been. Great song.
Best song on the album.
Elvis Costello has always had that awesome baritone vocals, smooth and bass sounding.
It is absolute beautiful, Two genius.
Exactly. Geniuses creating magic together.
EC sits down with the greatest of the greats, and manages to help them elevate their writing. What a master.
Burt Bacharach's catalogue of supreme songs is never ending.
I came here to experience the collaboration of two great musicians. I am not leaving disappointed. For me, art is a very soulful and personal expression. You either feel it or you don't. These two have taken me to another level. All I can say is this whole CD is brilliant. But be advised, this isn't sippy drippy pop, so It ain't for the shallow. You're gonna have to put on some boots to wade through these waters!
I had no idea Elvis Costello had such a great voice. And Burt Bacharach is just amazing!
The fucking horns @ 2:10 are so classic Bachrach it brings tears every time
What a treat to have tearful music. Rock on and snot bubbles. I hear ya
Rest in peace, Burt. LOVED this collaboration so much!!!!
❤
One of my favorites of both of theirs. Rest in Peace Burt Bacharach
we will miss you, RIP Burt.
I read that a well respected music teacher said "Brilliant. Not ONE single note is wasted in this song.' I couldn't agree more. All the songs they wrote together were amazing. Who would have thought that these two very different artists combined would make such a great writing duo?!
Actually, Elvis covered Burt's song "I don't know what to do with myself" in one of his first bootleg albums, "Our Aim Is True". Both Elvis and Burt are all about melody. Elvis is a consummate musician who plays many different types of music.
The Club everybody dreams of having a table!! Burt, a sentimental musical genius, brings the listener lovers, closer together...Happy Valentines Day Forever Burt!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
My mom played this album all the time as a kid and I hated it. But now I love it!
Same but I loved it then and love it now.
What a match made in Heaven, these two make.
Absolutely wonderful. It’s so hard to find truly fantastic masterpieces like this one.
Just discovering this music now. Wow. The beauty, the purity, the spirituality... Soul-fulfilling and transcendent.
RIP Mr. Bacharach
to the 14 people that gave this a thumbs down, please never go on anything music related again. You clearly have no clue.
27 and Luv both of these guys. Nuthin like a Sunday evening with Burt!
It's a thing of beauty.
Nice performance of a long lasting career with Burt Bacharach
They probably don't have a clue because they're bots.
@@seemefeel2 Burt Bacharach writes the music, Hal David writes the lyrics!
Fabulous performance from Burt and Elvis ❤
RIP Burt
I think I have half of the 500K views. Stunning song and performance. RIP Burt.
We're all thinking of you, Elvis.
Please... one more album! Do it one more time! It is one of the best albums EVER!
This album makes me relish in broken hearts. It makes heartache seem beautiful
Quite the insight. In some ways, and maybe this is a bit depressing, I miss the overwhelming grief of my one heartbreak. In some ways, I feel like that year or so was the only time I had my own permission to do nothing but deal with my emotions. Melancholy is beautiful
So true, as is your username. You have great musical taste. Subscribed to your channel.
Grande....GRANDE! ...e la musica? essa e' l'anima dell'iniverso, che da ali all'immaginazione Riposa in Pace Grande Artista
it,s great to see elvis costello singing the Bacharach song catalog, kudo,s to both gentlemen for the collaboration.
This a great album (Painted from Memory) that displays Elvis Costello's great power at the top and unique expressive quality. I keep coming back to it and my enjoyment never diminishes.
I've been in love with Burt Bacharach for 50 years. He's still got it. Absolutely beautiful interpretation by Mr. Costello.
Huh? His voice is distinctive, heartfelt. And Moorish backwater...the "real" Toledo? Holy Toledo indeed!
RIP BURT BACHARACH. What a legend. His legacy will live on!
Wow. Just wow. You can totally see George Jones' influence on Elvis's singing style, such depth and expression. And Burt Bacharach composing. Serious musicians at work.
Wonderful song!!! And I was living in Toledo, Spain for a year and now am back home in Ohio, so it makes it even more personal for me... dreaming of that Spanish citadel!
This song is one of a series of songs on an album that is nothing short of sensational.
Explain to me what's the meaning behind a) the toledo ohio spain metaphor, and
b) the ohio spain reference and that of florence, paris and rome??
@@harshbhandari9070 Are you stupid? Names of the US towns Are imported From Europe... Even Toledo
@@harshbhandari9070 I believe it has something to do with lesser versions of a true love. Florence alabama is certainly no florence italy, same goes for toledo OH and spain(I say as a toledo native). Perhaps the meaning is he's made mistakes, but "how could I truly love anyone else but you? Anyone else would be a pale facsimile of you"
RIP, Maestro.
This is brilliant songwriting by Burt Bacharach. fellow musicians take note this is how a song should be composed.
Essa música estou escutando pela primeira vez, estou admirado .... Sem palavras.
Magic 🎶❤️😀👌
Elvis removes his hat for Burt. R.I.P. Burt.
I live in breathless hopes that these two will re-unite and add K.D. Lang to form a fabulous and to-be-fabled trio. If only I ruled the world and could command it to happen...
That would be AMAZING!
Such an excellent album. There are more songs like this on it.
I first saw this performance on an award show. They were introduced by Brandy and Melissa Joan Hart. Talk about irony. I immediately went out and bought the CD. This entire album is amazing. Who knew infidelity could be so poetic?
Mr Bacharach and Mr. Costello, thanks for this amazing work. It was both amazing and everything I anticipated from a such a dream team collaboration.
Bacharach-Costello…May the Masterpiece produced from this beautiful alchemy never fade away
Fabulous! Like others here I think this album is a masterpiece. Love it!
Made my day
Class
Amazing ... and to think such an incredible song about ... Toledo of all places, but he's right, the spanish town is so beautiful and hard for any american town to live up to.. let alone Toledo, Ohio, but I do wonder if the US Toledo folks feel slighted.
Who'dathunkit, Bacharach and Costello: Two tastes that taste great together!
They are both about melody so though they are from different generations they really have a lot in common. Elvis covered a Bachrach song on a bootleg named "Our Aim IS True". I believe it was the outtakes from "My Aim Is True"
I always think that Costello's has an identical vocal timbre as Bacharach but much more gifted. Of course I like Burt's singing, but Costello's singing it's like Burt voice with a perfect vibrato. I love this album!
So many thoughts about this song. My parents played Burt in our house throughout my childhood. I can't resist his music and lyrics regardless of who sings. I think anyone who has been through a divorce holds these feelings inside.
+Colette Harrington As great as Burt is, he writes the tunes not the lyrics (Hal David mostly for the classic hits), Costello for this one and all from 'Painted from memory'
sounds of my childhood tears come easy when this plays those 56 plus know my message god bless our time we grew up
This song and album gets better with every passing year. Always a special occasion when two geniuses pair up and pull greatness from one another.
what a lovely song.
take me to Toledo, i want to live.
This is such a beautiful beautiful song ❤ cannot stop playing
Absolute masterpiece!
Yet another need and reason for Music and Performance and Composition to exist in this world where most of us trip over our tongues and fear to express our feelings, even if we could ever express ourselves so well .
Absolutely no one does melancholy or arrangements like Bacharach. A master. And Elvis? Sublime.....
I am so obsessed with this man. He was such a talent, a brilliant musician, and in his youth a beautiful man. There will never be another. I am so sad that he is dead. Rest in peace. You were loved by so many.
I really wish they'd release the entire Elvis & Burt Sessions at West 54th on DVD
Really A Gift!💝🎵
Thank you so much🌹
One of the best collaborations ever. I have always been a massive fan of Burt and also elvis( I was in front of him at a showing of Fantasia ) this a album is fantastic
No one could have imagined in 1977 (with the release of My Aim is True) that Costello had so much talent and depth. He has written so many incredible songs in the past 41 years since that album that it's difficult to choose a favourite. But this is one of them, for me.
I have a new favorite each time I listen to one of his albums lately its been episode of blonde live th-cam.com/video/G2VWW-iYL98/w-d-xo.html
He has so Many songs that I have a top 100 elvis songs.
This has only 11K views??? Man, I want off this planet.
His vocal is as perfect as on the studio recording ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rip, Burt.
He's always been a true talent his aim is always been true
I’m not a singer / songwriter like Glenn, but I appreciate good music. I “locked”
into this CD release over 20 years ago . I agree with Glenn, one song after another , I sat back and enjoyed. The combination of these two artists is just unique and a gift for those of us who just enjoy great music. Reminds me of that duo of Burt Bacharach and Dion Warwick back in the day . One great song after another.
Beautiful.
Love this....love Elvis Costello. I think Burt Bacharach is awesome.
