Nice video! I’m 47 and I’ve been fishing for catfish all of my life and I’ve caught thousands of catfish. I just have one suggestion if you don’t mind listening. I’ve noticed when the catfish takes off running you immediately grab the rod and start reeling. If the fish is running then there is no slack in the line and there is no need for reeling. It looks to me that when you reel before setting the hook you are sometimes reeling the bait and hook right out of his mouth. When the fish is running out and pulling drag, click the drag off and set the hook, instead of reeling first then setting the hook. I promise you that you will have a better hookup to land ratio. Now if the fish is swimming in of course reel in the slack until line is tight and set the hook immediately. Just a suggestion from my experience catfishing and just fishing in general.
@@johnlowe8976 not true at all! If you think the circle hook sets itself every time you must not fish a lot. If that was the case the guy in this video wouldn’t have missed any fish!
Hey Mark shout out from dalton ga. I'm 58 years old have fished all my life and have caught several big big fish but after watching your videos I realize it's been luck lol. Your videos have taught me how to target big fish. Thanks buddy.
Hey we have good catfishing on Lake Palestine if you wanted to come down and fish then you could meet me maybe even at the lake. Neer Noonday, chandler, or coffee city all close to Tyler the lake connects to all those cities.
I live here in soddy daisy TN. I use smaller baits and smaller hooks and catch 5-50 lb cats. Alot easier to set the hooks and less misses. I cut up bluegill and sunfish. They hit better at dark.
I'm wondering about corn starch? See it's used to thicken up anything cooking wise to the point of being able to walk on it. Therefore your catfish bait could thicken up to the point of a gravy essentially.
I can remember eating chili dogs with shaddy hands 😂😂 ads extra flavor and helps build the immune system. Lol. Nothing like a little shad or worm dirt with your food!

@@Rubio_Eric they run and you hear the bait alert or line out clicker… and your line backlashes while doing so then your pole becomes submerged in water going for a ride…
I've never had a rod get pulled into the water with a bait clicker on and I've done this for years. Back in the day when I bank fished more often, I did have roldholders and would lock them down but hearing a bait clicker scream gets my blood pumping more than a rod bending over. It's also good for a catfisrhman to get some exercise 🤣
@@Rubio_Eric my catfish reel has a bait clicker which when the line is pulled you will hear a click. This is a design that allows your line to run free but has tension because of the mechanism inside the reel is like a gear that makes an audible sound/noise when enough tension is pulled on the line. They may also call it a bait alert. Just cast out, let line sink to bottom, engage the bait alert that holds a bit of tension on the line and wait for a bite.
I have a bran new okuma reel for sale because I need a rod for another reel. I have it listed on market place, but you would have to come to Tyler Texas to get it or send me enough money for the reel and enough to ship it back to you by USPS. I only need 30.00 for it.
You'd be surprised how far you don't have to cast. I've always set my rods out with one near the bank. I'd always catch the bigger one on the closer to shore setup
I always chuckle when someone says that. A certain time in the morning or evening. "4 am in the morning". Well, is there a 4 am in the evening? Loads of people says that so don't blow a gasket on me. Just a little levity.
Right. I couldn't finish watching this shit. Lock the Damn reel down and let the hook set. And pick up the damn rod. Feel like I was watching an ameture teaching and ameture.
Or you stay there have John stay at the dock. Then call each other on speaker phone to talk to each other what's going on just obviously don't talk on the phone when reeling fish in. The rods you don't have in your hands put bells on the tip. 🙂
You know if you set that hook before you start trying to reel them in, you lose so many. Once they bite at that bait two three times you need to pop the top of your rod back towards you ( so pick up your rod gently because fish can feel rge slightesr vibrations through that line ) or else they will spit that bait out. Before you ecer start reeling. You can also chech your hooks Make sure the barbs are still good and you can even bend the tip of the hook to the side o a bit.
I hit 6'1" at age 13. Thought I would end up about 6'5". Nope! I never grew not even a quarter inch after 13 years old. LMAO. I don't know what happened.
Dude are you trying to lose a rod? That many that spread out? Simple method. Hammer a piece of rebar into the ground and put your rod over it between the rod and line. Pull it up flush to the reel.
Why catch them if u gonna just throw them back?! Makes no sense...at this point ur just causing harm to them...I would think...all the hooking that's going on...great videos tho...I love fishing n eating mine...lol!

I agree set the hook first then reel em in
He's fishing with circle hooks. You don't set a circle hook, you just reel / apply pressure. Very different than a traditional "J" hook.
Thank you
You don't have to set circle hooks. Fish hook themselves

What kind of reels are those that you are fishing with for the catfish?
Okuma kamodo muskie reels I believe
Do circle hooks allow the fish to come off alot. Seems like that is happening frequently in this video. Are "regular hooks preferable?
