      @@LisaDeBose When I was at Walter Reed in DC undergoing the Gulf War Syndrome evaluation, I chatted with a charming black lady who spoke better standard English than I did. It took me a couple of minutes to realize she was Hispanic and a couple more to identify her as being from Colon, Panama (I was stationed in the Canal Zone at the time). The first was the hands and the second was a particular "flip" of the hand native to Colon. She could have qualified as Black, Hispanic and "upper class" Southern all at the same time. Or simply as American.
