I’d recommend cherry-picking segments, perhaps veer off for some Sedona Red rock slickrock. (not slick)

Bike packing/van life meal routine: Oatmeal -> protein shake -> boiled eggs -> protein shake -> proper meal -> snack -> bed time. Less faffing with cooking and cleaning, less stuff to carry.

Hey Dustin! Consider a resettable breaker in place of the fuse holder. That way it’s still safe, but when you accidentally run the induction top too high, it’s just a flick of a switch to correct. I recommend one from Blue Sea Systems. West Marine caries them.

That magnet trick is great! I'm adding a magnet or five to my kit. I'll have to check out a sleeping quilt too. Love seeing you on long distance adventures.
Weather Tech raceway camping and Fort Ord riding is one of my go to weekend bike trips. Food tip, add half a scoop of protein powder to oatmeal. I find it much more satiating.
"Luxury Hobo Setup" would be a great title for something.
I always enjoy your content, but finally gotta say.. your choice of music and tunes is freaking amazing. So well done.
As a long time “beater” ( older cheap car) driver I am very happy you mentioned the spare fuse thing! everybody should carry a pack of fuses in the vehicle and the 10 and one like you had there. One more thing that I always add is a Chilton or Mitchell manual for your vehicle in case anything happens to it. You may be able to troubleshoot it yourself with limited knowledge.

I like the simple food philosophy. Make it quick and easy because who wants to cook for an hour after a long ride...you're hungry now. Not so sure about the towel poncho though. It might have to go the way of the Goretex onesie.
I'm all about them oats for breakfast even when I do have a choice. Throw them in an old jam jar with your liquid of choice in the fridge overnight and boom lazy breakfast. Additionally, throw in some coca and caramel plant based protein powered to turn things up to 11!!!

congrats on the no booze, its been 7 years since i had any. though since i moved to the netherlands they do some great 0% beer that hit the spot at the end of the day.

Liquid Death is a nice sub for beer, as well. I stumbled on their black-canned goodness when I moved to an area that didn't have HopTonic or any other variant.

How’s not drinking going for you? I am about 8 months no booze, done a few bike events, na beer and bubble water come in clutch in social situations, especially bike parties! Well done !
Dk, my dude. Perfect video to watch as I pack up my Apidura bags for a three day bike packing trip. Heading to new Paltz, New York. Will definitely find some rain so everything is getting packed into small Ziploc and garbage bags as it goes in. Rather be safe than sorry. Much love from the East Coast.

Merino wool everything when traveling. Makes it so much easier. Can literally bring one set of spares and be good.
On a farm, sheep are genetically modified through selective breeding to never stop growing hair. They now grow so much hair, that they could die if they don't get sheared every year. When they are around 5 years old, they are sold for meat and are replaced with a younger sheep. Humans should stop exploiting and using other animals. What happens to them matters to them, and they should be included in our circle of compassion.
any tips on keeping your bike clean when on a long road trip like this? I don't care about the frame but the drivetrain/rotors can pick up a lot of road debris (especially if it rains) or dirt from gravel roads
This is why we have fuses!
you learned ya lesson! keep a couple fuses in the glovebox, maybe think up a wee list of emergency spares for when you need em, you can get plug kits for car tyres just like bike tyres FYI! but legit tho a little box of spare essentials id a life saver if not for you then for a buddy, its been awesome watching the van progression, glad to see your putting the miles too!
great suggestion! You know whats funny is I actaully have a tyre plug for the vans tires in the van...Im not totally lost....only partly ;)
Changing poncho has been in my gear for a few years now. Other thing taken from the surf scene is a fake grass mat.

Pro tip on the sunscreen from another fair skinned cyclist. If you brush on a light amount of corn starch, potato starch or talc after applying, you don't have sticky skin that slowly attracts dust all day.
Oh damn, this is a great idea. As someone who's ancestors rarely saw the sun, I really appreciate the tip! Any sunscreen brands you like more than others?
@@askforshane I can't say I'm an expert, but I like the stick variety. Recently I've been using Attitude brand because it's pretty waterproof and lasts through a day of sweating, but it's only SPF 30. When it's really intense, I prefer Neutrogena Mineral or Blue Lizard. Both are SPF 50. I do mineral based sun screen.

Another vote for Neutrogena Mineral. I'm also up in the PNW, but the eastern side of WA state, so get plenty of time in the sun.

fuses are important to not burn your rig, making fuses easy to access/change make it less tempting to bypass a fuse "temporarly". I live my vanlife vicarioulsy though youtube.
