This is my 30th season hunting with my BAR in .270. I received mine for Christmas in 1988 when I was 14 years old. It has been an outstanding rifle that I have carried up the creek and over the mountain many times, in all weathers. It has never failed me. I've taken a slew of deer with it, and just took my best buck ever with it last week. Welcome to the club! Now you can learn the secret handshake.
Love my BAR mk II safari! My father bought his in '93 and hunted with it for many years and has passed it down to me. Love the accuracy, even after the barrel gets hot its precision is unmatched by any hunting rifle Ive ever used. Great firearm would definitely recommend for someone looking for an autoloading rifle!
Great video! Always been a browning fan. My dad has a 30-06 BAR that I borrowed for a lot of years. A dozen years ago I got a 7mm mag BAR. Had it completely redone by a professional gunsmith and hot blued then put a Bushnell elite 4500 2.5-10x40 with firefly reticle scope on it. Love that gun!! Just recently was privleged to purchase a used 300 mag BAR safari model with a tunable muzzle break in incredible condition. Love the BAR life. lol. Added a Leupold VX-6HD 3-18x44 with the red dot reticle. Now this scope is amazing!! Very cool that Leupold lets you send in your gun ballistics and they send you a turret elevation adjuster just for your gun. Also have the browning 12 guage semi-auto. All these guns are Belgium made.
My Dad just gave me his Browning BAR Grade ll 30/06 and his Browning A-5 Light Twelve both Belgium FN models as old as I am. I was born in 1969 and he owned them I believe from maybe the late 60's.. I just rescoped the BAR with a Leupold 3x9x50. Cant wait to Hunt with them this Year..
Love my Safari II! I have one chambered in the 300Win with the BOSS system. It was originally between the 30-06 (my favorite caliber) or 300Win, and I decided to go with the 300. It kicks half as hard as my Savage 30-06! Fun to shoot. Thanks for the vid!
I need to get out and shoot mine some more. Beautiful Gun, a classic. Have you used the BOSS system to tune the accuracy? Thanks for your subscription.
For me born and raised in the south, there is no better hunting rifle than the BAR. Owned more than a few but my favorite was the .280 Remington. Very accurate for an auto.
Thank you for preparing and sharing your video which is wonderful informative. I am an owner and big fan of the BAR. Have one in .243 Winchester which is a Type II that was produced in 1987 and another one in 338 Winchester Magnum Safari which was manufactured in 1995. Additional, I have owed a BAR in 270 Winchester from the 1970’s which I sold to purchase a .300 Winchester Magnum in the 1980’s which was eventually sold. I regret ever selling the .270 since it was a “tick-licker” that was incredibly accurate. They are fine rifles and you will not go wrong with one from the 1970’s, 1980’s or 1990’s. I cannot speak for the new one that are heavily influenced by European design style which I am not impressed with personally.
farleyjj1 Thank you for asking. Have a Mark II Safari in 338 Win Mag. I have used for elk. That one of yours looks like new. You can beat the 30-06 for versatility.
This gun and it's prior model are the only hunting rifles I have ever shot since I was little. My dad gave me this exact gun and it is one of the most accurate guns I have ever shot. I don't know why anyone would have anything else LOL
Beautiful rifle. One of the most attractive rifles ever made IMHO. PA's decision to allow autoloaders is not gong to help Remington's sales of Model 760s.
My dad literally came home giddy and excited and pulled this out and gifted it to me about a week ago for my 40th birthday. Not a hunter by any means just a Hillbilly who enjoys shooting :)
@@farleyjj1 i have a pistol I pack with me in the hills for the sole reason of coyotes and that is a Rossi .357. They've become a nuisance lately here in Southeastern Kentucky. I love my BAR 270. Traded a stevens 22-250 rifle and $ 200 on top. It was a good trade for me. Its made in Belgium 1970 m70 serial number. Its a grade 1 BAR . No recoil from a big caliber .
Love 30-06. I want a bar in 308! Idk if I should get the mk ii or the new mk iii. Kinda torn between wood and synthetic too. Love wood, but synthetic is much more practical down here in the swamps.
Good results iron sights wise good bench rest minimize human erros. Do another video 100 yards sir I am curious those iron sights are much more fine tune than mine
I have this rifle without the iron sights. I developed a handload that gives 3/4 inch groups when fired from a rest. I've taken several deer in Michigan and Kansas with it. The only caveat is its weight: its definitely a stand rifle, not one to be carried around all day.
i have the same riffle but lately I'm having problem swith opening the clip door. The release button seems worn out , it will have to go in for repairs
Just picked up a 270 Safari BAR Belgium made yesterday. Aside from some wear on the magazine area from being handled it’s perfect. Plan to cerakote gloss black to appear stock. Has anyone done any cerakoting on this model? I’d hate to create an issue where there isn’t one.
Farley, did you get it sighted in? shooting low at 25yds. I was wondering if when you took the pressure off the barrel from the tie down strap if that made it shoot high?
I won one of these NIB in a raffle 20 years ago. It was a $10 pull. It didn't have iron fights and I was too cheap to but a scope. I sold it for $300. After watching this video I clearly made a mistake.
Brian , it’s just the MODEL name. Browning has his name all over many gun designs. Does not describe EXACT function, but it does automatically chamber another round without manual use of bolt handle or pump slide. Just marketing...
The original name of a firearm that functions this was was "autoloading". Once infantry rifles started to come in select fire "semi-auto" became a description of the trigger and firing. Even when an M-16 is switched from Semi to Auto the rifle is still an Autoloader because it reloads itself after each shot.
The only weakness I've in my 14 years of pacific northwest wetness isn't rust it's held up good even were blood ate the finish. After some use before me even, the buffer disintegrated and jammed open on a hunt I missed but I sent it to browning they fixed it. I used my model 700 to kill that Buck by the time the gun got back. That jam, jammed the back of the bolt into the stock no getting it to close without hammer. They are great for hunting within reason works on range but don't think it's full auto after 2-3 shots it smokes if it's oiled
I have the identical rifle(minus the sights) and I love mine, too. However, mine’s a picky jackass...only likes federal ammo. Everything else opens up to undesirable groupings. A little fact I learned about BAR accuracy...if you fire your first three rounds as quickly as you responsible can, your groups will be tighter than if you wait minutes between shots. I tightened my groups from an average of 1.5-2.0 down to under and inch by doing this. An old gunsmith told about this, saying BARs having a lot of moving parts that start heating up and expanding...have to get the groups before this happens. Just a little advice for those who may be questioning their BARs accuracy.
Use 150 federal fusions. That's what I use on whitetail deer there great for deer. I've had bad luck with Winchester ammo cycling through the gun never had issues with federal or Hornaday ammo
I had one in 30-06. I absolutely hate that stupid hinged floor plate. I would get another one in a heartbeat if they put a proper detachable magazine in it.
@@farleyjj1 2023 and still not able to use my Remington 742 BDL or Browning BAR! My Remington 7600 in 30-06 is doing a great job harvesting those Pennsylvania Bucks!
All of them dont bend the same way. All the shells look the exact same. Brass cant bend from falling out of a gun. Its super hot but not hot enough they bend from their own weight. Bullcrap.
If you've ever watched a slow motion of a BAR hunting rifle ejecting, which I know you haven't because your bullcrap answer is bullcrap, you'd see the brass swing out to the right and continue on it's circular path and contacting the action lever. These type of dents are so common in so many semiautos that your answer tells me you are either new to semiautos or just never learned in your extensive firearms background. Do you work in forensics?
