Many people forget what it was like to play a game for the first time, since they may have done it a long time ago, perhaps when they were kids. It can be hard to see someone run past something they know is there, yet when they played it for the very first time, they did exactly that, too. And they certainly didn't have hundreds of people severely judging them for temporarily missing every single thing they didn't immediately get. The joy of discovery only exists if you are first ignorant. Games were designed to be learned incrementally, it doesn't have to be a race to use outside sources to learn 100% about a game instantly (if you enjoy that then that's fine, but for me I'd rather discover things myself). If you don't enjoy watching that, then don't. Being arrogant or mean about me temporarily missing things will result in an immediate ban from YT and twitch. Be nice please. I've banned over 50 comments in the last month that most of you will thankfully never have to read, and I appreciate the vast majority of you who aren't like this.
I appreciate you, for a variety of different reasons - thank you for being you, and putting in so much work :) I'm sorry to hear, that people on the internet still haven't changed. Even if it's only a few, the exception, those can still get under ones skin which is fairly unpleasant. I hope you have a most pleasant day \o/
I LOVE seeing you play it through for the first time! This is A precious gift that I never thought I would be able to have and I greatly appreciate it! Next time you stream it I will try and be there.
Don't worry Carl, it's just the internet being the internet. Playing anything blind is an adventure, and it's amazing to be with you on this journey! Keep being awesome as always! 😁 Some people are just angry at everything. Or they are kids. Most of the time, both, lol. Go on, my dude!
Your playthroughs are incredibly fun to watch despite knowing these games for so many years. I appreciate your blind playthroughs Carl and it sucks that not everyone *gets it*
The Kokiri fading in like that is intended, actually. Other NPCs pop in much sooner; the Kokiri are supposed to be forest fairies that blend in, or something like that.
I actually really love the low draw distance in the Kokiri Village. It makes everything feel just that extra bit unnatural and fey, like these children could always watch you while you traverse their forest without you ever knowing it.
It's fascinating to watch someone brand new to the game play it. He misses a lot of secrets, but that's to be expected from a new player. But he also found new strats I've never found in 20 plus years of playing this game. For example, in the last stream he used an unintended and rare strat to get the impa's house heart piece early. This stream has been so fun to watch.
Aww, you skipped over the bomb bag message, which was one of my favorite lines from the game: "Now you can set bombs to C and blow stuff up! What a lucky guy!"
It’s lovely to watch someone experience this game for the first time. Many people are very familiar with OoT, so I’m pleased to find your playthrough. Hope you’re enjoying the game! :)
I love this channel and I'm enjoying the OOT series! I appreciate your playing and uploading your long plays. They always seem to come at just the right time to provide me proper escapism from stressors in life. This time it's writing my graduate theses and studying for the MCAT. Don't tell my PI :D
If you don't like swapping your Ocarina into your C-buttons all the time, there's a QoL option that lets you also use your Dpad to put up to four extra items on; useful for stuff that's not really useful moment-to-moment, but you still need to pull out some times, like your ocarina, or masks. You can also put certain other items on there, but that would be spoilers since you don't have any of them yet.
31:20 Carl sometimes I watch you solve puzzles and you'll nail it faster than I did. Sometimes you'll walk around for 30 minutes missing the obvious exit to Kokiri Forest. :) The important part is everyone thinks a little different which is what makes life so interesting.
Though Carl has many new powers to wield He did not seem to notice... he had a shield. That will surely help him when he's out on the field Especially with lava, which can seal the deal As for this playthrough, I can see the appeal.
(And I hope this wasn't too rude! It was just a funny moment to see you lose one in Dodongo Cavern and be bummed about needing to buy another. But you still found the solution and cleared the dungeon and all is well. 😊)
I love how you discovered the bombflower chain reaction stairs. Proper figuring it out with the clues the game hands you. Also love the 60 FPS as a kid who played this game so much. And who played it later through emulators at 20 FPS.
I'm jealous. Carl casually stopping the giant rolling goron 3 times like whatever no big deal and it takes me like 10 tries to stop him once. Wtf lol, I want those skills
Carl has no idea how lucky he got with the Dampe minigame😂 You wasted 60 Rupees bc you didn't understand the minigame (which they never explain to you), and then the 7th one works and you hit the Piece of Heart first try (which is entirely based on RNG)
I have not seen anyone stop and see all the things, and talked to the NPC since... Well, since I originally played through this game as a kid. This is very refreshing... I did not remember those silly Goron drawings on their wall inside the city ^^
There is an option to play the ocarina with the d-pad instead, makes playing the ocarina easier. Settings > Controller > Additional Controller Option > Ocarina Control > ✓ Play with D-pad

I know it's too late, but on ship there are a bunch of quality of life configurations, and one of them is being able to use the d-pad on the ocarina regardless of what buttons you configured for them. Another is adding the d-pad as 4 extra slots for c-items and even being able to put equipments like boots and tunics there.
Carl Plays Tunic, Finds a Massive Shopkeeper In a Hole: Jump scared multiple times Carl Plays OoT, Finds a Massive Shopkeeper In a Hole: Calls him a nerd and throws a pot at him
This was my very first video game!! I wasn’t interested until this game! It was a huge game and so fun!! It helped me walk into the whole world of video games! Enjoy!! Will be fun to relive this through you!!
I have a quality of life tip for the gameplay, Carl. You may know already, but if you press your shield button after pulling out or picking up a bomb, you will instantly drop the bomb. It's faster than pressing the "A" button to drop it.
You seem a bit insecure about your gameplay, and I really don't think you should be. There are many things you do with your gameplay that are a stroke of genius! It's easy to be caught up on what you feel is 'bad', but even that isn't bad. You don't think as linearly as many people do, which is an awesome trait for a scientist. I always try and encourage the undergrads to think outside of the box or stretch their fingers a little interdisciplinary for this exact reason. If you could figure something out by doing exactly the way everyone else has done, it would already be figured out! It takes a unique perspective to do something new. Good job, and keep on doin' you, my dude.
Couple of notes regarding the controls: You should really have the C buttons be in a consistent layout, such as on the D-pad or on all shoulder buttons, so that their position matches what they are shown as (angled if using the shoulder buttons). In a similar vein, I recommend putting A and B buttons for the buttons you usually use to confirm and cancel actions respectively, since that's what they also do in OoT. On an N64 controller, all four C buttons are next to the A and B buttons, so you could go between them with just your right thumb, something you can't do on modern controllers. For Z-targeting, the issue I've seen you have is that you don't wait for an indicator to hover around what you want to target. If you Z-target without the indicator you just lock your camera forward instead of locking onto a specific thing, and if you repeatedly do it the indicator has a hard time showing up at all since you've locked the camera away from what you want to target. Some things never have an indicator over them, such as Gold Skulltulas. The Z button should be mapped to a button you can easily hold onto while pushing the A, B, or C buttons. It's fun watching you experience this game, I just hope your control scheme isn't holding back the experience too much.
Trust me when I say my control scheme has nothing to do with the clinkiness of interacting with the controls -- it was the same for me in college on an n64. The lack of input buffer is the biggest issue, and the use of many of the same buttons in different ways (sometimes rolling sometimes putting a weapon away or pulling out a fairy or grabbing or climbing). It takes a long time to get used to that if one isn't
General rule of thumb: aside from the pedestals like the one in the sacred forest medal, Zelda’s Lullaby should be played every time you see the Triforce. Also you might want to look for a Triforce around the Karoriko Village area and play ZL near it to make life a bit easier in the long run
There was a bet going on here whether or not Carl was going to get hit by his own bomb in this dungeon Keep this in mind when you watch it because holy BAGEEZE 😂😂
As I can't currently keep watching the Tunic playthrough until I've gotten further into the game (I watched it until Carl caught up with me) I have to watch something else. Luckily, I am, like, 99.9% certain that there isn't a single thing in OoT he can spoil for me. I don't think I have ever seen a blind playthrough of OoT before. It is quite interesting to see how the game fares seen with fresh and modern eyes.
"I don't even know what to call it." Ship of Harkanian is a masterpiece is what it is. It's easily the best PC port of a decompilation, at least that I've seen. Also anyone trying it should try out the randomizer. I doubt they made one from scratch since there was already a good one existing when SoH came out and I assume the code got contributed since I THINK the feature set is the same. Didn't really look at it too closely. Disappointed OoT never included the Triforce? You can literally add Triforce pieces to the random item pool.
Carl, I'm curious since you didn't have an N64 growing up and didn't play this....did you play Mario 64? It's hard to imagine that you didn't, but it would be super fun to see you experience that game for the first time if not. Really seeing you play any N64 platformers would be a fun time.
