I was also quite chuffed to see that I share some of your favourites, although the Shire Grey might now need to come home with me. 😀 I really like your philosophy that playing and experimenting with our materials is a passion of itself. 1st…hugs for the rough days you’ve had. 2nd…I was missing you this week & so happy to see you here for coffee today. You picked some very lovely colors to enjoy and I appreciate you sharing them.I luv them all, but that Quin Violet vibrates. I think swatching interesting colors in a slow relaxing way is a great active meditation. I’m pretty sure swimming in such luscious colors sets off a good dose of comforting signals in the brain. I even think there’s something to painting circles too. I haven’t read it fully, but your calm swatching reminds me of this book “ Shodo: The Quiet Art of Japanese Zen Calligraphy”. It’s been a year already, meeting Mike. Nice to have an in person arty friend. Take good care of yourself this week Helen & I hope next week is better for you. 💜🤗💜

For paints that don’t rewet well, try adding glycerine, honey or Winsor and Newton blending medium. Check the videos of Sarah Burns Studio and Painting with Mher for their experiments and thoughts. For the glycerine, Mher recommends vegetable glycerine, I think… Not sure though.

This was lovely. Thank you. I have a special fondness for Isaro paints - I get the most Turner-esque results with them, without even trying. Esp the Cad yellow lemon. Also, the Neptune 8 was my first watercolor brush years ago. I still come back to it though the tip is now less precise. It is the one that feels perfectly natural to my hand. 💗

I've been thinking about your swatch albums recently. I really like idea of having a large swatch of each color but I think I commented on your video that I didn't think I could justify having a large album for so few paint colors. I did have a look around and saw smaller albums with 4 cards per page but it's just not the same. For a while now though, I've been wanting to do some of those color mixing strip charts that Sarah Burns does. The ones where she takes 2 colors like lemon yellow and cobalt blue or something and adds a little bit of blue to the yellow all across the chart until it finishes with the pure blue. She uses them to help her pick colors for limited palettes. I like the idea but don't want to store strips of paper or fill a sketchbook with just these mixing charts so I was thinking I might try your card album idea for these. A page could have a color swatch of the main color, like lemon yellow and then have mixing charts of lemon yellow plus my mixing color in each of the other slots. I've ordered an album from Amazon, got to wait a couple of weeks for delivery, but hopefully by the end of April I'll have an album of swatches and mixing charts. I'm really looking forward to starting this project.
