So thankful for this DR focused content. Just bought an 83 that was restored a few years ago and hasn't done much work since, just sitting in a garage. Not running as yet ...will check fuel, air and spark, then take it from there. No doubt I'll be watching your vid as assist when probing the valves and carb. Happy days!
Well that's cleaned up a treat! The perceived 'lack of power' doesn't seem to hinder its progress and the unworn suspension looks ideal for that terrain. There's also something to be said for a quiet bike when riding land like that is so precious these days.

@@Garage2Trail previous owner put a gold dg head on it and a dg pipe, rejeted it and regeared it. It’s pretty much a rocket. I got a big folder full of all the magazine tests, factory manual, original sales receipt. It was actually registered for the road, the original owner was a fanatic and traded in an earlier it 250 on it. I have the title but it’s “ double signed “ so I’m not sure how to go about getting it in my name. I’ve had it for about ten years, it’s a little tall for me so I ride my kx 100 most of the time.
@@quickturn66 that is cool! Friend of mine had an 86 (I think that was the year) IT200 when we were in high school in 98. I remember that thing having a snappy powerband. I can’t tell you how many times I saw him loop that thing out on hill climbs lol
While this is a nice bike and looks amazing, I still prefer the XR200 to the DR250 believe it or not. I read an old Dirt Rider magazine article that claimed the DR250 only made 0.9hp more than the XR200 in 82 or 83 (can’t recall at the moment). The DR250 did make a bit more torque down low but it weighed 30lbs more so it pretty much cancelled that out.
Same thing with the 230 suzuki quadsport i have, it's a 1986, they seemed kinda choked up in 1st and 2nd gear, doesn't really like to get up and go unless it's 3rd and 4th gear, great for backwoods though. I just need a new gasket for the top end, some new rings, and some new tires but i might as well buy a whole top end since the gasket is like 2/5 of the price for a top end, mid 80s were pretty much meant for mostly trail in the 250cc and under department for 4 strokes👌
All the manufacturers were trying to play catch up with Hondas XR line in the 4 stroke world. They seemed to have had the market cornered in that area for a little while at least. I think just a rejet along with uncorking the intake and putting a free flowing exhaust would do wonders. I only did the airbox mod with this one which did help.
Those valves are set. Adjusted them about 5 or 6 times when I was trying to diagnose the no start problem lol. It was driving me nuts so I made sure they are in spec. It starts first kick hot and cold.
One thing about those vintage Suzuki’s of that era they sure do look good either trail riding or on a track! Nice video. Thanks!

Yes it’s a nice trail bike. Doesn’t get it done fast or do the big climbs but is great for just cruising and enjoying the woods!

Seems like a pretty good trail bike,came out nice. I’ve got a 80 it175 , it’s a little hyper for trail riding.

I think you may have found a keeper for light trail rides. Seems an enjoyable bike and certainly is great looking.
