    DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

    I always wanted to build this tank!
    Seeing those poor fitting armor plates made me cringe a little. There's nothing worse than poor fitting tank with rivets.
    I'd take Mr. Surfacer 500 and brush it into those gaps basically like a wash until they're all gone, then remove the excess with lacquer thinner. This way you'll be able to apply washes into those panel lines without any issue. I did this numerous times and it's pretty effective.

      +Night Shift I will try that out. But first I'm gonna have to find some Mr Surfacer lol. Thank you!

    I really enjoy these post build reviews...far more valuable than inbox reviews. I like hearing how it went together and which kits to run away from. Thanks for making these.

    Nice vid and good work; Italeri kits can suffer from a multitude of issues... but some of their kits are great; they're very hit and miss quality control wise. Looking forward to what you do with the paint. Cheers.

    May be must people don't know, but Italeri in the 70's and 80's (Pre Dragons kits shows in the marquet) was one of the few brands with "alternative" or "rare" kits for build. Yes they're bad, But the price and the need for these different kits justified the purchase. I haven't bought an italeri kit for more than 15 years, and I don't know if they have progressed, but I have seen some photos of their new kits and it seems that the old style of rubber tracks without any detail, remains. Yes I know, may be in USA or in Europe, the situation was different, but in south america it was the reality we had to face.

    Great review. Looked a bit clunky, but buildable and I was considering it until “the tracks don’t fit around the sprocket.” Tanks 101: tracks need to go around sprockets. Great review!

    That looks sweet, i like it when you build something from the weird tank corner :)
    The only thing that is really annoying about this are the pin marks on the tracks, that would make me go up the wall. The rest is alright, i mean its an Italeri kit. They are good enough and it turns out just fine in the end. Here they are pretty cheap to buy, the Tamiya version is like twice as expensive, so i recommend to stay away from that.

    I think one of the reasons we begrudgingly pay premium prices for a Tamiya kit, despite there not being (usually) PE, indie link tracks etc, is that we know there will be sublime engineering and perfect fit. Bit of a kick in the nuts when it turns out to be an Italeri rebox at a Tamiya price point. But I digress, so please excise my ramble. Enjoyed the vid Evan and it is refreshing to see post build vids, rather than a plethora of inbox reviews as is the norm ....it's great to know what fits and what issues to expect. Kutgw

    I tend to build quite a few italeri models, but I'm using 1:56 scale for wargaming and such, so their models of that scale don't have as much detail as larger scales, but I've not really encoutered too many issues ... great video :D

    I love Italian tanks. The P40 is a pretty neat looking vehicle, I have an L6 40 in the stash that I'd like to get to some time in the future. The kit looks alright. It's a 2012 issued kit with upgraded parts but I think they should have redone the whole thing. Good luck with the painting, what scheme are you going for? The box art example looks pretty challenging.

    In principle, I love Italeri kits, as they are great value, but mostly because they offer such a huge range of subjectsthat are just not available elsewhere (and not just armour).
    However, I think you truly need a good set of old school modelling skills to bring about a good result, something I do not sadly have.
    But Evan, you most certainly do and it looks like a great result. Looking forward to seeing it in paint......

    What a shame this kit is full of problems..If Italeri put new effort into some of there ancient kits and updated them..!.I do like Italeri and some of their new kits are cool and some older ones are good..Though some are not.
    I’ve contacted Italeri with questions and found them very friendly to deal with.They are like Airfix and Revell..In that they are trying to finally move in the right direction.Problem is some of their older kits are just reissued at todays prices..They might have a gluten of old kits..So choose a few and really revamp them..(e.g 1/35 Italian tanks they do.!?!?!)Happily surprise us and worry the competition.. Don’t just sling in some photo etch and new decals..
    Great video and I really enjoyed the post review..Thank you and all the best from Blighty🇬🇧🇺🇸👍

    I don't know why Tamiya does this, the Italeri kits are nowhere near up to Tamiya's standard. I don't think it does the Tamiya brand any favours

    • @cygnusx10
      @cygnusx10 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      According to Italeri, this P40 was a brand new tooling in 2009. Even given that it's 10yrs old, I would have expected much better than this from a brand new tooled kit. But yes, it doesn't do Tamiya any credit to their reputation of "shake the box and it builds itself" type kits.

    • @dave_jackson3043
      @dave_jackson3043 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Completely agree with that. They have lowered their standards to doing this. Reputation is all in any business, this is one way to drop sales drastically 🤓😉👍

      I have built the italieri kit and i thought is was fine and if not better, it had a metal barrel, PE and really good tracks with a detailed book on the P40 so I thought it was good

    • @willthorson4543
      @willthorson4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dave_jackson3043 they don't drop sales over reboxes. Lots of companies do this. It actually helps with sales of each other's kits. If you know it's an italeri kit, don't buy it. It's that simple. Or buy it and deal with the issues. Tamiya, italeri, revell, ICM, and others do these reboxings and some of these companies have done it for decades. This definitely isn't a new thing from Tamiya.

    • @NereoSal
      @NereoSal ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benij2431 absolutely, people love to hate Italeri without even knowing its history and the amount of subjects they covered throughout these years.
      Of course when you buy an Italeri kit you need to research first especially with the older stuff.
      But to glorify Tamiya when they still sell kits that might fit perfectly, but as far as details look terrible, really makes no sense.
      This P 40 plastic kit is not even a kit that other brands produce, so thank you Italeri!

    I just bought the Italeri's "Special Edition" with the World of Tanks tag and the thing that bothered me is the engine part...it looks really empty! Anyway, perhaps with the paint and weathering will look pretty decent, and aaaall the rivets pinwash to add interest. I'm sure your P40 will look marvelous!

    Very seldom does one sound disappointed with a Tamiya kit, but perhaps when Tamiya ventures outside of the company pool they find themselves in murky water. This was a kit that I had my eye on, but now I think I'll pass and wait for one of the newer manufacturers to revive Italian armour should I find myself in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs, lol. Appreciate the honest feedback and yours turned out brilliantly. Look forward to seeing what you decide on for the camo scheme.

    My young Panzer builder, I understand getting wood over a Tamiya kit. However,never forget that Italeri kits terrible (most of the time) and even Magic nomes from Tamiya can't fix them.
    Ok they put in PE tool clamps, the shovel looks like a Fisher-price toy.
    The US M-24 Chaffee is one of the worst kits I ever subjected myself to.
    DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF! Tamiya reboxed several kits, just avoid them. The Puma was one, they didn't even put new wheels in the box. Same old incorrect tires we have had for decades.
