Hung out with Ryan this week in Breck, allow me to explain why in my opinion this dude is so awesome. We first linked up last season on the hill and I spent multiple times on the slopes together with Ryan giving me tips (over the course of a season), following and observing and coaching. I'm fully in the intermediate rider class and for him to give his personal time to help me and not just associate himself with awesome riders speaks volumes about his character. Truly an amazing rider but someone with great character, someone who loves the sport and is an amazing ambassador for it. If he shows you a technique and you absolutely fail, he doesn't roll his eyes but backs it down a notch to a level where you can grasp and succeed at it and works it from there. Solid dude and I'm glad to call him a friend. Thanks for the vid Casey.
LOVE THIS. Ryan is the most humble person for someone who rips as hard as he does. His passion for the sport is palpable. We love that he opens a whole new world to the everyday ripper looking to do something different. We are proud to support Ryan and have him as a major part of our team :)
Ryan is out there every morning getting fresh tracks making snowboarding look like a beautiful dream! got my chance to meet him multiple times in 22-23 season while working at breck. what a legend!!!
Ive been coaching snowboard for 10 years and i have to say that you have a surprisingly nice caving style and technique for a park snowboarder! Everything looks really smooth! Toes side have a very good inclination and it look solid and heel side its still very good. Continu your great work. The transition between heels and toes look a little "fixed". Like if it doesnt want to get to the other turn. Its hard to explain, but you could try to move you center of mass forward(front foot) in the begining of the turn and GRADUALY move you centre of mass to the back foot. The key is to keep on moving. Think about moving your board under you, at one point you will feel a charging in the begining of the turn and a releice at the end. The releice is the moment were you change to the other edge and move your body forward again! That way you will be able to have a better transfer. Of course, there are ways to get to the Knapton turns, but I dont think that its part of your goal.
While I used to be a park junkie in my younger days...Carving and smaller jumps is all I got left. This guy is inspiring and something I can work toward.
Very cool video.....I think what helps Ryan on his big wide boards also is he loves forward lean. I imagine you’re a zero lean dude Casey but worth playing around with it for your big board and carving days! Helped me a lot when I went wider. Keep up the great work both of you. Happy winter!
First test of my Snow Joe was a massive blizzard that dropped 20+ inches of snow with drifts well over 3ft. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN This snow thrower is definitely not designed for this much snow but it powered through it. We did have to knock down taller drifts with a shovel and at times the chute was awkward because snow banks were much higher than it could throw, but still much easier than shoveling. The plus side of the small size is the maneuverability. Easy to lift up to walkways and works in tight spaces near cars. Highly recommend.Note: after assembling it started but did not turn. The belt wasn't in place. Easy fix.
Top carver in the game! Ryan is dialed in when it comes to carving with some crazy awesome butters tossed in. Loved finding this vid, two of the all time legends together. Heavy!
I’ve heard skiers talk about snowboarding like they’ve never paid attention to them. They think there’s only one way to come down the mountain, by zigzagging…they mean the falling leaf.
We have a freestyle carving movement taking shape out here in NH thanks to Ryan. Even the shop I work at started pushing the idea and super wide boards. Total slayer of the high speed ground game!
Found Ryan a few years ago and was re-inspired to snowboard more, decided to work on carving...it's a physical challenge. Holding that edge at high speeds and then the clean switch back...lots of concentration, but in a fun way. But once you're flowing, I feel much more in-tune with the mountain getting close to the ground and feeling the board gliding through the snow, reaching out to touch the ground, trying to get cleaner and cleaner carves every run.
Just started snowboarding man and you are truly an inspiration. Everything you and your homies do together gives me a passion to go out and have fun with my homies
I can't tell if you're joking, or if you only watch TH-cam vloggers and no other snowboarding? Is Ryan the best on some Breck blue runs? Maybe. But there are tons of guys riding heavier lines and doing heavier carves than him. Dirksen, Sweetin, Kazu, Blauvelt, Torgeir, the Jackson bros, Pat Moore, Victor de Le Rue, Terje, Wescott... the list goes on of guys that lay down heavier carves in gnarlier terrain all day and with more style. Watch more snowboarding.
@@ElevenEightNate I think you're missing the point.... There's carving/buttering and there's off piste gnarly riding. The people you're listing is the latter. Two very different styles/intentions.
@@ikra the OP said "no one can lay down a heavier toe side carve than RK" and didn't make whatever distinction you're making. And if any of the guys I listed can lay down a heavy carve on gnarly backcountry lines, they can definitely do it on a blue in Breck. Also, go watch the latest Slice'n'Dice!
@@ElevenEightNate you're wrong again. Technically speaking, I don't know of any other snowboarder who has extra wide snowboard that extends a few cm beyond the toe and heel cut-off. So technically its currently imossible to out carve RK because your toe and heels will just bottom out and you'll land on your face... unless those guys you're talking about have mastered the art of carving wide boards as well... Which I highly doubt. And even if they can, they can't just step on it and start carving like that. You're trying to compare oranges and lemons here, just for the sake of dissing.
The crop in on the Yellow Jacket... Yeeeewww!!! 💰 Love to see you boys making vids together. And at least one replacement to all of the Gopro's you've lost in the water. Shred soles giveaway coming soon?
Looking side by side edits. It's amazing to really appreciate the editing skills that you have gained along this journey. Stoked to think what another season of shredding will do. Edit. Knapton filming however is unreal.
This is so nice to watch. Ive been riding for 8yrs and still too scared to pop a 3. I can easily do 540s on rollerblades, and ice skates but for some reason, i have this major mental blockage attempting it on a board. Ughh
Try setting that Snickers board with a directional stance if you want to play around with your carving, Knapton doesn't go as deep as physically possible on his frontside carves because of the stance he rides (he probably knows and accept this trade off due to how fun it is to shred switch). A friend of mine who carves hard boots can literally carve full circles both ways.
Ryan also runs really big sidecut diameters to stabilize his backside turns and avoids the hops mid arc. That makes circles pretty tricky unless you roll up on just the tail at 7-9 oclock.
yewwwww dude love the freeriding with Ryan!! I always rip around like this, its what really makes me feel connected to the board. I have't done the nylon on the jacket yet, but still get super low in euros etc. You should switch up to alll wide boards, they help you everywhere you will notice a difference first lap. I have been on wide boards since the mid 90s, mainly never summer cause they have always put out wide models. You can ride wide twin park boards and rip around everywhere on them, you don't need a wide stiff board. I have owned and demoed wide stiff boards over the years and I never really have liked them, this goes with riding them in deep pow too.
