      They used screws when connected the column with base stone is because of the regulations for earthquakes. Most nail is not metal nail.

    • @ju5t1n78
      @ju5t1n78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Theoryofcatsndogs They probably ment that they didn't use modern nails and so on. They used mostly traditional methods and wood joinery which is beautifully handcrafted
      edit: Like most buildings that get renovated or newly built you need to use the normed methods at some point. eg: the nails in the roof are not out of wood

      Well, they still have to meet modern safety standards/codes, but for the most part, they still built it using the traditional methods, just with added screws, nails and lag bolts to secure the joints and joinery in place.

      The Overall build is without screws and nails like traditional westerners build, bamboo to bamboo connections, and when using metal accents metal to metal connections.

    What a beautiful project showcasing the traditional way of building a Japanese home. I like the symbolism in the garden ground. The sidewalk around the house front has a cemented bowl with a pair of chopsticks. But I cannot figure out what that big round urn that is buried in the ground inside the house. Anyone know what it is used for? Thanks.

    I watch a lot of the Jungle Guys build homes and this is VERY SIMILAR. It is more refined and exacting in size and fit......but same materials and same method of building the simplest of homes. Very very nice and 100% good for environment too. We should have adopted this method of building at least homes to save trees. Laugh now while you can and the tree hug humor. ....BUT TIMES UP AND WE ALL MADE A BAD DECISION OVER AND OVER FOR A CENTURY.

      I have a friend who is native American. He said before the white people came to the northwest coast, they would split planks our of the living cedar trees to make houses. It would leave the tree intact, to grow more wood. And of course, cedar needed no paint nor weatherproofing

    • @JayCWhiteCloud
      @JayCWhiteCloud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they did, and it makes the title rather misleading. There are nails, bolts, concrete and all manner of modern materials in this project...and there wasn't in original work, nor does there have to be in many projects like this...

    • @JayCWhiteCloud

      @Nevermind Building codes are global now...That is understood. I still don't have to use nails, concrete or other modern materials in projects and they get built and are approved by both PE, and code officials...So who is ignorant here about the facts of traditional building?

    Now MOST comments will be:
    "Misleading title, l saw a screw, they use nails" etc...
    ENJOY THE PERFECTIONISAM OF THIS CRAFTSMANSHIP ! (Read down).
    The other day l assembled an IKEA (flat pack) cabinet, took me 2 days to finish, and l put the hinges on the wrong side.
    (When l close the drawers there is a 6-7 mm. gap - plus l have to put a beer bottle cap under one side in order to close the cabinet door)!
    It looks like "Made by Homer Simpson" compared to this artisans craftsmanship !
    COMPLAIN ONLY IF YOU CAN DO IT BETTER!
