I don't care much for sports, and I know this isn't real but it had me on the edge of my seat.
Theres something fundamentally exciting about sports moments depicted on film like this lol

I always looked at it that he gives him the binoculars soldier because he looks for his teammate rather than taking the shot himself

This show has tons of stuff that goes on in the background that you wont catch except on a rewatch. It wasn't just Isaac breaking the tv that earned him the captain spot. Throughout the season everytime you see Isaac doing something a leader should do you can always see Roy watching him.

we all had hope but the show gives us a final that brings out what Ted truly finds important in his players. Great finale! They got a few extra episodes next season because they did so well with the critics and awards. Enjoy!!

set plays are a volleyball thing. that's why they're called "set", cz the setter (an official volleyball position) sets the ball up for a point, and if the ball stays in play they go through what's called a "rally" till the ball hits the ground again and someone scores a point.
doing faints, utilizing the nebulous decoy position-if a volleyballer is versatile enough to be a blocker and a spiker-, quick attacks, setter dunps... these all are trick plays. they literally have a formula for a spiker to fake going for a spike just to set it to another direction for another spiker to score.
you can't play volleyball without trick plays. that's why the concept of trick plays or sets is founded on volleyball instead of other group sports, where these plays are a luxury and not a necessity.
tangent: no sport is as elegant as volleyball. a lot of futbol strategies and mechanics are parallel to volleyball, only gravity is against you. so you have to incorporate 3D chess moves. literally. it's a three dimensional game 100% of the time. even in aerial passes, the futbol doesn't really move in 3D. even in long passes, the trajectory is easily determined.
that's why there's no eliminating players in volleyball like a red card. everything is tightly calculated based on 6 players, w very specific yet versatile roles, w mandatory subbing, including taking the defese out every other rotation, creating a rotation where the entire team has to play different levels of defense as well as they do offense or else they'll lose the set.
if you ever got curious about volleyball watch the anime Haikyuu. it's based on the manga of the same name, created by a manga horror artist and writer, who was a volleyballer in highschool. it's universally considered as one of the best sports show of all time, ever, in any language, in any country. their portrayal of a volleyballer's life, psychology, hardships (height issues), along with its pinpoint accurate artistic depiction of the human anatomy anatomy, along with actual plays, sets, stats. there are so many professional athletes and Olympian athletes that have reacted to it and they end up crying, literally, about how it touched them.
Japan's national team have their own roster of favourite characters, AND a roster for who they'd want to be on the team with. Argentina indicted one of the characters as an honorary member in their national team.
I wish we'd have a Haikyuu for futbol.
