Ottoman Empire's Belgrade campaign still goes on. People prays in Topkapı Palace for the army's victory. Sultan Süleyman is about to win his first victory. He wants to show his justice in Europe, as well. Sultan Süleyman comes back to Istanbul. The victory of Ottomans and return of the Sultan is celebrated with a sense of occasion. After Sultan Süleyman's return, Hürrem becomes the first one who can fulfill his longing. Mahidevran makes a deadly plan to get rid of Hürrem. The night Hürrem and Süleyman has ends unpleasently. Hürrem gets poisoned and meets the death. Sultan Süleyman intervenes without losing time. The first person that he wants to see is İbrahim. However, İbrahim goes to a secret meeting. Will Hürrem be able to survive? İbrahim doesn't lose time to find the person did this. In the mean time, Gülşah decides to destroy the traces she left behind. Even so, İbrahim understands it was Gülşah in a short time. He gets shocked by the truth he finds out. He needs to make a very diifficult decision.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

As an American thank you for posting these. This is the best show ive seen in awhile. Ive also never seen a woman play the game so well Hurrem ate them up. Got freed. Became the legal wife. Had the heir. Sometimes as women we have to play the game a little quiter but men dont ever think were not playing just as hard as you.
I'm so glad that there are English subtitles! I wouldn't be able to watch this wonderful series otherwise.

they were physically abusing her, slamming her around, endangering her life since day one then they act surprised when hürrem finally acts the same way they acted towards her
It is easy to see why Hurrem did not like these people...they were horrid and physically abusive to her all while constantly going out of their way to protect Mahidevran and believing her constant lies. Even though in later episodes Hurrem was punished several times by Suleiman (sometimes unjustly), Mahidevran never seemed to get punished at all and her crimes once even included a lethal danger to Suleiman as well. Binge watched the entire series and am now repeating several of the episodes. Love it!

@@lauri8696 - In an episode with Firuze she comments that she knows Ottoman law says that Muslims cannot be put into the harem. I took that to mean that all of the ladies must have converted once in the harem and of course that would include Mahidevran as well. But we saw Mustafa take a Muslim born woman into his harem before deciding to send her home. I think the television show took a little poetic license with the Muslim/Christian in the harem rules.
Hurrem gets brought to the palace against her will after her family is murdered and all they've done so far is try to kill her and get rid of her. Mad respect for Hurrem doing what she needs to do to stay alive.
Watching this episode again after finishing the series, I find it so hypocritical that Hatice told Suleiman in a letter that Hurrem is pregnant and that's apparently okay, BUT in a later episode when Hurrem mentions in a letter to Suleiman that Hatice is pregnant Hatice gets so angry at Hurrem for sharing the news.
Coz she's royalty. She has special rights nd privileges. She doesn't need permission to share info with another royalty but others don't have that right

Once a concubine slept with the sultan, she couldn’t be given away. At best she would have been sent into exile with others that he is no longer pleased with. Only after many years in the haram, if still untouched, could a concubine be given freedom and leave to be married off
Actually she could be given away if the Sultan himself decided and if she wasn’t pregnant with his child.
I thought this show was stupid halfway through the first episode and stopped it. After weeks of seeing random posts, I finished the first episode last night and now I'm fookin hooked. Thank goodness its a holiday weekend, I need to see what happens, this is wild af

Every single time since the beginning, suleiman going to war and facing challenges dosent mean hurrem is sitting idly at all, there starts great wars and obstacles for her in the palace too, and great ones! The power couple both gains their victory each time..wonderful!

What's fascinating to me is that while this is clearly a vindictive and petty power move, Hurrem is in some ways her own worst enemy. Her reaction to being a favored concubine is to immediately brag and insist that she's going to overthrow the sultan's main wife and be in control of the palace. She cultivates no friends in the harem and actively makes people dislike her instead of cultivating a power base. It's honestly a pretty fascinating character choice and I'm very curious to see how to plays out in the future.
These girls all want the same, a chance to spend the night with the Sultan. They are Hurrem competition and she doesn not want to lose the Sultans affection. So of course she wouldn't be friendly with the other concubines. Also Hurrem is young she's 15 when she begins relations with Suleiman. Meaning she's still learning the ways of the harem.

@@lovelydove8770 Hurrem being young isn't an excuse for her actions. There are probably younger concubines in the harem and they don't act as immature as she does. Most of these girls have the same experience as she does but they're not throwing temper tantrums. They are all concubines, vying for the same mans attentions, but it's honestly a lifetime chance that they would ever see him, so why do they have to be hostile with each other? why not make some friends? When you get to a high position it's important to have friend not just people who are blindly loyal to you. See in the beginning, the favorites were all being nice with each other even though they want to advance themselves too.
Well to be honest they basically they kidnap these young girls like Hurrem but in her case they killed her entire family forced her on a boat made her cross an ocean, then sold her like a cow at a slave market. Took her to this palace where they were told that she was the property and slave to a man she's never seen. And I beat money alot of the girls were treated less than human. And Im not so sure she was treated well by the Sultans mother sisters and other wives. So I don't blame her I would be out for revenge too.
I just dislike the maincharacter... that never happens. I like Maria the most when it comes to the women, but no one can deny it is a shame that our beloved Sülbüm Agh will remain a eunich.
I like the man and would gladly have seen him as a father. But well, that aint alever going to happen. He is more of an uncle to the harem or a big brother.

I don't know which events occurred in real life. But they never really gave Hurrem a chance. They started in on her the minute she started with the sultan. Mahidevran thought she was everything but would always accuse Hurrem of being arrogant.

I lost all respect for her and felt like they ruined her character, had she stayed loyal, Nigar and Hurrem would've been a pair.

The whole King Louis (Lajos) story.... The Ottomans did wage war & won territory at this time but Lajos II was 20 years old when he died in battle and never chopped off the head of an Ottoman envoy. Poor Hungarians are quite demonized here.

Hurrem survived all obstacles why she is a fighter to stand up against all odds. Despite the palace trying to get rid of her, she stood her grounds. The Sultan's Mother will have her day if the Sultan returns and finds out about the plots.

Hurrem is 15 at this time, she's still a child mourning the lost of her parents and sister. She not in a position to make friends when she already has Maria "whom she seems to trust". She probably considers the other girls competition anyway, they all want the same thing to sleep with the Sultan and pray for a son. She can't lose her security, her place especially when Sultan is the only thing making her happy.
On one hand she has Valide who believes everything Mahidevran says, who runs the harem, who is not just or fair. Then she has Mahidevran who stole her ring "someone else was punished for it", bullied her, beat her "and got away with it".
On top of other things that girl life is at risk and she harsh to protect herself. Or at least that how I see it lol.

Nigar Kalfa was the one to tell Hurrem what to do to become a Sultana.
