i swear to Christ, this kid is his own worst enemy. I don't know why they call him up when the team is such a state. The role he fills is useless to the Rangers right now. He nearly cost the Rangers the game with that hit and it's a stupid unsafe hit deserving of a suspension especially given the past hits he's been disciplined for. Send him back down to Hartford and don't call him up the rest of the season, and bench Mika and Kreider while you're at it. Both of them are an anchor around this lockerroom and they need to make room for players who are ready and willing to do the work that a leadership core is supposed to take on.
I disagree, the Rangers play dramatically better when he is in the lineup. The team still has the ability to be one of the best in the leagues they just have a fucking effort issue. When Rempe plays, they play too.
@WizradtheNoble If the veterans on the Rangers need an AHLer who can barely play hockey in order to motivate them, then they're more cooked than we thought.

I think the rempe experiment needs to come to an end. Yes, he brings the Rangers good energy - but at what cost? This guy might actually end up hurting someone. Yes I'd say the same thing if he was on my team.
He needs to develop more and he should be moved to be a d-man. Being a physical forward while being that big is going to cause those mismatch hits. Having him skate backwards and learn to seal off guys with his size would be more useful and he can be more in control of his hits. Use Chara as a model on how to make big guys useful in today's NHL.
Although he's not on the same level as Nazem Kadri, this is the exact reason why Toronto traded Kadri. Kadri was a good goalscorer, brought energy, and wasn't afraid to drop the gloves. However... he would lose his temper at the wrong time (the playoffs) and get suspended when they needed him most. As you said, Rempe brings good energy and his toughness can't be questioned, but he needs to smarten up. If he actually thought about what he does on the ice, he might be able be a decent fourth-line checking option.

I’m getting really tired of watching Rempe get away with this crap. I understand that this is old school hit him hard type of play that gets him minutes on the ice, but that isn’t something that is interested in having anymore, especially with the rising interest in preventing CTE. I really wish they would just let somebody rock his you know what and maybe that would knock some sense into him. Otherwise it’s gonna take a lengthy suspension, but I don’t see that happening unless he really hurts somebody.
Thanks for the video! Tough hit and worthy of a fine. I really hate the cheap shots. No place in the game for them. Rangers were playing very dirty last night. I think they have lost all composure and ability to play hockey like a pro team. I feel bad for guys like Panarin and Shesterkin. Their talents are wasted on a team that was on the skids and is now off the rails. Thanks for the deets and the insights!
I agree the Rangers were absoluelty playing dirty, but the refs didnt call most of it.... until they had to. Feel sorry for Panarin and Shesterkin? Not a chance. They get paid huge piles of money whether they win or lose. "Yeah your team sucks this year but here's $12M as a condolence prize"
@@bangyahead1 Naw, top players on all teams get paid, and that's deserved for playing as well as they do, because it shouldn't all go to the owners, but to be on a team where it seems the stars are playing well but others are sabotaging the chances of the team to make the playoffs, is why anyone would feel sorry for folks like Panarin and Shesterkin. The whole argument that they make lots of money and don't deserve to get to play the game they are getting paid to play is what folks who don't make lots of money often bemoan.
What started a little funny for me as a Leafs fan as a moderate length losing streak for Buffalo has turned into me actually feeling genuine sadness for the team 12 games in a row is just brutal. I feel for you Sabres fans
Until the team itself suffers (large fines, loss of draft picks, relegation to the champions league, whatever!) plays like this will continue. It doesn't really hurt the team, so why should they care what he does?
Part of his league minimum salary goes to the player assistance fund...... so why should the team care? If the team got to keep that money they would probably tell him to "Go get yourself suspended. do we look like we give a ....?"
Laine is stuck playing with Dach, Newhook, or Slaf on the 2nd, who all have very very rough seasons, idk why Martin St-Louis isn’t putting Laine on the first line because the Powerplay is essentially the first line and it’s amazing. Very few 5 vs 5 goals Laine was on ice for, was caused by him doing anything wrong. Montreal will have to put him line 1 or get him some help on line 2 eventually.
On the first line, Suzuki and Caulfied are right shots. Laine is a right shot. They need a left shot to keep the line balanced. Having a top line of all right-hand shots would be detrimental. That's why he was never on the top line in Winnipeg, as Wheeler and Scheifele were both right-hand shots. Habs need to find a decent 2C that can drive the line and feed him the puck.
@@pomerlain8924 Nope, Laine can never have that. He can never be plaid with an actual 1C or even higher end 2C for more than a few games at a time. If they do, he will get too many points and be too expensive for the team to keep. It's been like this his whole career.
Problem is, if that was the goal Laine would have quite a few 5 vs 5 goals vs weaker defense. They are simply trying to give first aid to Newhook/Dach/Slaf and failing by splitting the talent. That 2nd line has been an issue for a long time in Montreal, hell we had issues having a full first line for a while, by dropping Slaf from the first and putting Newhook they essentially broke the only line working last season !
As Caps fan I think Rempe is a dying breed and no longer useful in NHL but I didn’t think there was anything malicious about the hit. It’s no different than many boarding calls we see in every game.
There's a chance that i'm gonna have posted the same thing about 10 times because they kept getting knocked out by the auto-filter but there's nothing bad about the messages, so I kept posting with slight alterations and they would disappear. If they reappear out of the warp, i'm sorry.
I've always felt that if you're in the penalty box and you're not serving a bench minor, goals scored on your team should effect your plus/minus. Buffalo will be forced to do some kind of a retool soon because they're so far along the latest rebuild that the young stars they drafted are aging into where you have too many RFAs you can't afford to sign and nothing to show for years of terrible roster management. The Sabres problems start with ownership and their "secret" internal cap, not with palm trees, because I don't remember a lot of palm trees in Winnipeg.
Until that hit Rempe was having a + impact.. drew 3 penalties and brought energy and Stars D had to be aware .. then the hit...all he needed to do was keep the forearm tucked and slow down .. just like a perilous incident he is going too fast and instinctively the arm comes up so he does not face plant himself into the glass.. his responsibility to learn how to hit under control.. but some of the idiotic comments here about kicking him out of the league... man so many guys would get the boot as well ..Rempe is a big body that has speed unlike the 4th line clods of the past who were slow
But he should be kicked out. Quit lying to yourself. Not only that, but fine the Rangers three first round picks and give them to the Islanders, a team that actually has a future with Roy as coach.
A thought experiment that will never happen, but would apply with the Rempes and Reaves of the world: instead of suspensions, make their teams have them lead x number of games in ice time, or they forfeit the game. Suspending a stiff like Rempe doesn’t hurt the Rangers, it helps them realize how useless he is.
Rempe, in one hit, boarded, elbowed, checked from behind, and left his feet in doing so. If the NHL doesnt suspend him then it's a BS Department of Player Safety. I'll call it ten games. The NHL HAS to look at it like "You want to turn somebody into a quadraplegic because you cant control your enthusiasm? Not in our league." Rempe could break somebody's neck with a hit like that and then the leagues insurance gets into it........ and then it gets serious. If it was Tom Wilson he would probably get 20+ games suspension, because of prior history. Rempe has been ejected 4 times in his 22 NHL appearances. That's a terrible ratio and shows a tendancy towards dirty play. The NHL has to respond in kind.
My dad is a big Rangers fan. He despises Rempe, and wants the Rangers to get rid of him. He takes stupid and careless penalties, nearly costing the Rangers games. Now if it was 2000 or earlier, Rempe would be fine. But it's 2024. The league is coming down on intentional hits to the head, which is a good thing. I think they should give Rempe an 8 game suspension....he has a history, and clearly hasn't learned. He has played just 22 games, and has already been ejected from 4
Exactly, there are some skills there, but he has no control. If he was trained to use his size as a d man instead of a forward those bad hits wouldn't be a thing. All the bad hits have been on the forcheck, when he tries to pressure to force a turnover. We know big dudes can play in this league, Chara being the best example, but they need extra instruction on their play because of that size.
Some people dont realize how poor and utterly frustrating Montreals powerplay has been since like 2016, so myself and many Habs fan dont care if Laine only scores on the powerplay for the rest of the season honestly. 7 goals is a goals and its not like we gave up alot to get him (No offense to Harris hes a very good 3rd pair defenseman)
I'm not a Leafs fan and really don't care but why would they play Mathews while he's hurt?? The team was winning without him. Why wouldn't they want him 100% for their annual first round loss??
I feel like there needs to be a way for the league to suspend players for like an entire season with pay. I feel like that is the only way to protect the players that are there because they're actually good at hockey. And that cap ofc would be dead weight.
I don't think the Sabres have put together 10minutes worth of good play since the streak got to around 7-8 losses, but it is nice that you feel otherwise.
Rempie hit: elbow, hit to the head, semi charging and boarding all in one go. He knows he's not coming back, might as well take someone out with him 🤦♂️
I'm running low on Rempe and this coaching staff. I love his energy and it does have some positive effect on the team but he's also super reckless and that have major negative effects. They have to show him major discipline. It's getting ridiculous.
Same thing I said about Torres when he joined the sharks Not happy hes on the team. Hes just a danger to everyone. Imagine if he clips celebrini or bedard..
Isn’t it one of the responsibilities of the coach to put players in best position to be successful? There is talent on the Sabres but just no confidence or able to work through inevitable bumps in a game. Would love to see Tort coach the Sabres for 2 weeks. What a transformation that would be. Adams is too worried about how it would look for him to can Lindy. Do what is best for the team, not you personally. Frustrating.
The irony is Rempe was playing his best game. Drew 3 penalties, 2 driving the net on great opportunities.... and then dummy time. Rooting for the kid but dang he makes it hard.
Maybe it's time to stop rooting for him. He's proven how dimwitted he is time and again, and it's only a matter of time until he seriously injures another player. He has no place in the NHL.

It seemed to take Matthews an extra bit of time and effort to get back up after that cross-check near the end of the Buffalo game.
As a leaf fan regret not buying tickets 6 rows behind the glass centre ice in Buffalo for like 150 cnd last night. Oh well maybe I will go next time.
As a Sabres Fan... im just watching the Bills and Bandits.
Best thing about Rempe is he might singlehandedly force the league to actually crack down on head contact without any bs fine print.
What started a little funny for me as a Leafs fan as a moderate length losing streak for Buffalo has turned into me actually feeling genuine sadness for the team 12 games in a row is just brutal. I feel for you Sabres fans
I'm a Rangers fan and I can't stand Rempe. The best thing that could happen is him getting suspended to keep him off the ice.
All he needs to do is say one negative thing about Drury and he will be gone.
Voice sounding rough, Shannon. Hope you’re well. Thanks for all your efforts.
That Rammstein sweater says "a tree burns" lol obviously a play on Mein Herz Brennt
@bangyahead1 Even more ridiculous.
Love the sweater brother
thats a nice sweater my man :D
Rempe being Rempe.
It's like the movie Madagaskar where animals escape from the zoo. This time it's ape called Rempe.
I saw a stat that Rempe has been ejected four times in the 22 games he’s played in the NHL. That should speak volumes about the whole situation.
Newhook has like 7 points in 30 games and Dach 9. Those are 4th line numbers playing top 6 minutes. So not great.
Because that way Laine doesnt have to face the opponents top defesive pairing, hence why you dont put all your eggs in one basket..
That Rammstein sweater is 🔥
What’s cool is that if they cover Laine, we have Cole
First words outta my mouth after clicking on this video "A Rammstien jersey?!?!?"
As Caps fan I think Rempe is a dying breed and no longer useful in NHL but I didn’t think there was anything malicious about the hit. It’s no different than many boarding calls we see in every game.
Can he please play on Monday? Kurtis MacDermid is going to be there. LGD
Mac and Dillion will be there, pick your poison, LGD!
Remps is his own worst enemy
Love the Rammstein sweater
Rempe has played 22 NHL games and he’s gotten kicked out of 4 of them! That’s an 18% boot rate!
Is that a rammstein jersey ? That is sick!
Can't wait for Askarov to take over the net in San Jose.
Should be 20 games. 5 game for elbowing, 5 games for from behind, 5 games for getting off his feet, 5 games for to the head.
There's a chance that i'm gonna have posted the same thing about 10 times because they kept getting knocked out by the auto-filter but there's nothing bad about the messages, so I kept posting with slight alterations and they would disappear. If they reappear out of the warp, i'm sorry.
Sweet sweater
Savard to Utah. There is my guess.
Seriously though. Nobody actually watches Rempe play. He's honestly a solid 4th liner. He's so reckless though it's a shame.
But he should be kicked out. Quit lying to yourself. Not only that, but fine the Rangers three first round picks and give them to the Islanders, a team that actually has a future with Roy as coach.
5 games at the very most for Rempe…Sabres play Boston today. Always a good team to end a losing streak against. Uh oh.
No the fact that he was offered an in person hearing means he's going to get at least 6 games.
Indefinite suspension and conditions for return for Rempe, this is ridiculous.
45 years a Ranger fan here. Suspend Rempe for 30 games and take care of this punk before he literally paralyzes someone.
Another Sadres video. 🙋🏽♂️
But did I miss the story on the beaut sweater????
A thought experiment that will never happen, but would apply with the Rempes and Reaves of the world: instead of suspensions, make their teams have them lead x number of games in ice time, or they forfeit the game. Suspending a stiff like Rempe doesn’t hurt the Rangers, it helps them realize how useless he is.
Caps should trade like Lapierre for Savard for old times sake
So you’re telling me askarov could start multiple games
He should start. He looks way better than Georgiev
Not in our league."
Rempe could break somebody's neck with a hit like that and then the leagues insurance gets into it........ and then it gets serious.
He has played just 22 games, and has already been ejected from 4
THE DEVILS!!!
The Rangers are 16-4-2 with Rempe in the lineup
Rempe is a product of bad coaching. Never learned to control his size, probably was encouraged to abuse it all along.
That sweater is amazing Shannon!!
Rempe suspension: 8 games, minus two for not being a Leaf for a total of 6 games.
I'm tired of Matt Rempe. His game isn't what the game is anymore.
Ottawa winstreak!!
I've been watching hockey for decades, yet I just recently learned that PPGs are not part of the calculation for plus/minus. Why is that?
Because you are down a man but if you score shorthanded the guys on the pp all get a minus
Because you didn't actually want to learn about it, you just like watching it.
Me too!!! I just saw this vid and thinking…WTF?!?!
Because players on the penalty kill would always have worse plus/minus and vis versa for players on the power play unit
If you’re up a man, that’s a pretty easy plus; if you’re down a man, that’s a pretty easy minus. Unfair
They just confirmed Matthews will be out tonight and is questionable for Monday.
I don't think the Sabres have put together 10minutes worth of good play since the streak got to around 7-8 losses, but it is nice that you feel otherwise.
How does Sam Bennett not have a hearing or anything? Dude head checked Neighbours last night and didn’t even get so much as a minor penalty
Oh please 🙄
@ Oh please what? Did you not watch him put his shoulder right on the kids head and then slam it into the glass? Wtf are you on about?
Rempie hit: elbow, hit to the head, semi charging and boarding all in one go. He knows he's not coming back, might as well take someone out with him 🤦♂️
Rempe needs to be tossed out of the league before he kills someone period
I'm thinking 10 games for Rempe
I'm running low on Rempe and this coaching staff. I love his energy and it does have some positive effect on the team but he's also super reckless and that have major negative effects. They have to show him major discipline. It's getting ridiculous.
Same thing I said about Torres when he joined the sharks
Not happy hes on the team. Hes just a danger to everyone. Imagine if he clips celebrini or bedard..
Which Team would win.
20-21 Sabres or 24-25 Sabres.
24-25. If Skinner was still on the team. They would be giving up even more goals
I think Rempe will get 9 games. Thats what i would give if i was in charge anyway.
Sure, I’m a Ranger fan of many years, but this kid needs to go !
Buffalo got screwed vs leafs twice
Rempe is just Matt Trouba
No one gets 8 games anymore. Perhaps 6!
Rempe gets 10-12 games.
When isn't Matthew's hurt?
they punish Rempe but let Sam Bennett get off with another nasty hit last night on Jake Neighbours
(fyi not saying the Bennett hit was equal to Rempe almost killing a guy but just interesting how many bad hits Bennett gets on people)
Isn’t it one of the responsibilities of the coach to put players in best position to be successful? There is talent on the Sabres but just no confidence or able to work through inevitable bumps in a game. Would love to see Tort coach the Sabres for 2 weeks. What a transformation that would be. Adams is too worried about how it would look for him to can Lindy. Do what is best for the team, not you personally. Frustrating.
Rempe would have been great in the movie slap shot. But not in the NHL. He’s just in there to hurt someone.
Dw, Dallas will give Buffalo a win on 12/31, if they don’t get one before then.
Shame on the Rangers for playing Rempe
The irony is Rempe was playing his best game. Drew 3 penalties, 2 driving the net on great opportunities.... and then dummy time. Rooting for the kid but dang he makes it hard.
Maybe it's time to stop rooting for him. He's proven how dimwitted he is time and again, and it's only a matter of time until he seriously injures another player. He has no place in the NHL.
