You sound like a simple guy; which is what most of your viewers need. No complications; just friendly advice. Great job
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Nice rig. Im setting mine up so I can hit the bays in Fl again. My wife and have a 14" tandem ocean brand
I bought a kayak with the Garmin Fish finder Striker 4 with it. I was confused how to set it up and plug it in. Your kayak video was really helpful for me. Thank you so much.
I’m glad I could help! By the way... an update from 2021, I still use this set up but make sure you don’t leave the unplugged cords and transducer in the kayak. My last set got moldy and corroded so I had to replace the whole set up.
@@TimKidwellOutdoors Oh thanks for this tip.
Yeah man, you just sold me on all of your gear. Your whole setup is my shopping list. Thanks for the video Tim 💙
Love to see it! Thanks for watching!
Nice rig man. Build my budget yak this year. Super stoked on it
Thank you, extremely helpful!! Just a friendly tip, the in-line fuse isn't waterproof and should be installed inside the battery box as well.
Glad you liked it! Definitely found that out recently lol!
@@TimKidwellOutdoors does this mean you do not have to drill the holes in the battery box? Confused as to what I’m looking at and wha the in-line fuse is that is NOT waterproof 😂😂 thanks in advance.
You drill the holes in the battery box, after putting the wires through, seal it off with silicone.
Tim great job hope you have more video in future , just got a new kayak and garmin, thanks again for the help
Very helpful
Good job and Thanks great ideal
Thanks for the vid! I'll try this on my new kayak.
Very smart install mate. I'm liking it :)
Where did you get the plastic battery box?
thanks for this, I also have a yellowfin 100
Thanks for the video.
Just got my Garmin today. Wasn't sure how I wanted to mount transducer. Thanks.
Hope to get my yak set up with some goodies,i need all the help I can Get....Great job on the Video....👊
Thanks man!! Appreciate the support, congrats on the win on Apex’s giveaway! You’re going to love fishing with Capt Dave!
Tim Kidwell Outdoors cant wait
Great video! At 4:35 you show where your wires go in. Where did you get the black cover that you screwed into your kayak? I like that it covers the hole but can't seem to find one. Thanks!
It comes with the Garmin
Great Video man!! Subscribed for sure!
Nice. Count me in the giveaway ma boi. Keep it up
I take it you didn’t see the time stamp lol
Your welcome for the help! It turned out great!
Insert plug here! 😂
instagram.com/n0x1dz_photography/
nice yellowfin bro
How does the transducer see below without cutting a hole in the bottom of the kayak?
Thanks for doing these videos, very helpfull
So the transducer works through the hull?
Yes as long as there is no gaps or empty space between the hull and the transducer
So i watched the whole video and read all of the comments. Is that the stock power cord that comes with the garmin or did you modify it to accept that battery connection?
No, same cord that came in the box with the Garmin. Thanks for watching!
So a transducer can read thru the plastic?
Yes
Can you link to the watertight cables bracket at 4:31 ?
I'm setting up a Garmin Striker 4cv on my Jackson Liska and have been going in circles with decision to use a rail mount or foam for the transducer. Really like how clean your setup is and going to try the foam block. Seems like best option to protect the transducer and not have to maneuver around a rail attached arm. One question. Can you still distinguish bait fish using the foam?
Yes! Adjust your settings to the color you prefer. I keep it on the normal setting and it works well for me.
Very helpful video! I’m looking to get a Garmin striker 4 for my kayak and I want to set it up just the way you did. Did you have to buy any wires besides the polarized electrical connector 2 wire that you showed at the beginning?
Thanks for watching! No, they were the only extra wiring I needed was the Atwood 2 Connectors. 🤙🏼
Great video
Tim, where did you buy the rubber piece to cover the drilled hole for your Garmin cables?
It’s in the same pack as the rubber gaskets I bought from Walmart. We just made a hole to match that size when we drilled.
Thanks Tim!
Do you have a serial # or model for this parts? trying to run my cables the same way, great vid by the way.
I can’t find any info on that piece anywhere. Any luck?
Love the work you put in with the Walmart waterproof box. I am actually looks to get myself a fish finder. I’m noticing everyone put their battery in their storage on the kayak. I unfortunately don’t have a storage compartment. Any suggestions on what I can do? Is it a big deal is the box is exposed? What fishing should I get?
Sorry to blast with all the questions lol
Thanks!
Hey man, thanks for taking your time out to watch the video and I’m glad you liked it! Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you what to get or if it’s better exposed or not only bc I haven’t done it. It’s waterproof so if it were exposed and gets wet you should be fine. If you’re planning on getting a different kayak, I’d recommend the one I have here (Yellowfin 100).
@@TimKidwellOutdoors Thanks for the advice Tim. I found out that I can install a hatch. I ordered 2 and will be adding storage to the front and back. Thanks brother tight lines!!
Keep me posted on how it looks! My email is in the description of all my videos!
Great video!
Thanks man!
Awesome vid!
Thanks Jerry!
Great video man truly helpful!
I am undecided between buying this transducer mount or using duct seal as I have seen in some videos on youtube. What´s your advise? My kayak hull has some water all the time so it has to be the most sticky and durable mount
Frederico Carreiro I have never used Duct Seal, so unfortunately I am going to be biased towards the Garmin Foam. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I used duct seal and had great results - i show how i did my transducer here: th-cam.com/video/RnyeOQCkyRQ/w-d-xo.html
How is it working out for you? I did a similar set up with mine today but it was reading the water was 20 or 30ft but it was online like 2-5 ft deep I could easily see the bottom not sure what I’m doing wrong. I was also in the traditional view and it wouldn’t show anything so I switched to split view and that worked
When I did this set up, it worked fine. Now I have a different kayak and a different mount (DIY How to Install Fishfinder on Shearwater 125! EASY!!
th-cam.com/video/89ttwwb1ry8/w-d-xo.html).
Great video, bro! How long does that battery last?
Nathan Nelson I did like 3-4 outings (6-7 hours each) until I needed to charge it.
Fantastic! Enjoy watching your videos. I just purchased a Vibe 100 as well and your videos are helping me out with the mods! Keep it up!
Supposedly the battery will last for 20 full hours
I was number 600. Does that count for anything? Great job. Just a curiosity question. Is that a perception kayak? Mine is a Perception Pescador 12.0. Looks like the same type.
No, it’s a Yellowfin 100
Do you have the perception with the tracks or the older model?
Hi, thanks for this video. Question: does the temperature reading works fine or you get a considerable deaviation?
I think the temp works fine. I haven’t had any issues with it.
Sick new profile man!
Thanks man!!
so the transducer doesnt actually have to be in the water to get a reading? Also, how often do you have to put water in the garmin foam? just once or everytime you go out?
You have to put water in the foam before every outing. So technically the transducer is sitting in water. It doesn’t have to physically be in the lake or the pond you’re fishing. It reads right through the plastic or the kayak.
How does it read water temp? Transducer is in the boat. Installing it right now lol. Good video.
Honestly, I have no idea how it does what it does but it works great. I'd reccomend to anyone. Thanks for watching!
Quick question, the inline fuse, the red wire is on each end. Do you I attach both red wires together?
Red with red, black with black 🤙🏼
Great solution
What is the piece that you screwed to the kayak to run your wires through, and where did you get it?
It came with the Garmin, it’s normally used for the wires in a boat.
3 subs away from the giveaway! Been looking into getting the vibe sea ghost 110. Enjoy watching your videos
Thanks man! The Sea-ghost is a great choice! My buddy Joe (Dinsmore Outdoors) has the 130 and it’s a really nice kayak!
Nice Thank you
So will the transducer read threw the kayak?
Yes sir
it might read "through" it !!
Im watching it now
Can I ask when we install the transducer, does the transducer need to be flush with the plastic, or is it ok to put putty down and then press the transducer into the putty, so that there is a layer of putty between the transducer the the plastic hull ? Or does it have to be flush on the plastic ? Many thanks
I didn’t use putty so I’m not sure.
No worries thnx anyways ;)
How did you make the battery and the connector?
Those were both gifts from God
What is that connector called you added to the power cable of the Garmin? I need to get one to make connecting to my battery easier.
It's just a marine power connector, they have them at Walmart in the marine section.
How do you charge the battery? Just a standard trickle charger?
A charger comes with the battery
So does the transducer read thru the kayak ???
Yes
Where did you buy the pieces that go at the ends of your power cable (to put onto your battery) and what is the name of those pieces? Also, where did you get the piece that hides the cables? I went to Walmart and Lowe’s, they don’t sell
Polarized Connector Cable Marine Grade from Walmart. I also used walmart rubber gaskets. I dont remember the sizes, it was a variety pack.
Thanks for replying back quickly. I am out looking for one as we communicate for tmrw morning fishing. I am not speaking of the gaskets, but the loose wires from the power cord that connect to the battery. What are those pieces? Sorry for giving a hard time
Great video , I have watched others use electrical duct seal around transducer. The yellow rubberized plug is that a fuse in power cables ?
Yes sir, it is! Came with the transducer kit.
hi, tnx for the video....can u suggest me where can i buy the water proof battery case?
Thanks a lot
Walmart
Thanks I figured it out 🙏🏼
That brocraft star attachment part, what's that called?
I dont know but the link is in the description.
May I ask what is the wire cap that you used to hold wire/cable on the kayak? I'm talking about the black plastic piece. Thanks!
Idk what it’s called but it came with the Garmin.
It is actually used on a boat for sealing where you drill a hole to run the transducer line through the hull of a boat. I am going to do the same thing if I did not throw it away.
Once stuck foam down why do you poor water under transducer and what did you use to stick foam down
The foam has a sticky adhesive, once cured it stays in place. On the package it says to put a little water in it before each use.
Yo I wasn't expecting to find you here! lol so I was looking into this fish finder for my ice fishing.....So does a battery come in the package with this product or do I need to bye one somewhere else?
Battery not included, sorry man. I got mine off of Amazon.
Alright. Can you give me a link to the battery you got?
nevermind I just found it in the description! lol
How long does it last?
Sorry I have a tone of questions! Does the battery in your description come with a charger?
Do you have to pour water on it every time I did mine with the duct seal around the transducer
Yes
Does Walmart have that velcro?
Yes
How’s the accuracy of the transducer being in-hull mount?
Wednesdays with Jae I wanted to know the same thing, have you tried this and does it work ? Did you use the pre-cut pad from Garmin ?
The powercord. ?? Cuz im tryung to connext my garmin to my portabal car charger battery. But the only vodeo i seen made for it. Was connected to a bigger fish finder an diffrerent model. Ya know
I put it in the description.
@@TimKidwellOutdoors no you didnt. Thats why i asked. Im talking bout the one that connects to the red an black cable that connects to the garmin.
Those came with the Garmin. I only needed to buy the 2 Wire Connector that I linked in the bio.
Where did you purchase the rubber gasket; what size is it?
Walmart, it comes in a pack of multiple sizes
Where you get that cord for the cables? The one with the adapter to connect to the power cable.
It came with the Garmin.
@@TimKidwellOutdoors Just to confirm, are you saying the cord that came with your garmin already had the SAE connector? I got mine and it looks like you would need to splice it to connect to your specific battery box connector
Scott Mielke Yes, you’ll need to get the actual connectors separately but the cables came with the Garmin. You’ll splice them.
What are the clamps called to connect the wires to the battery?
Electric Connector female end
For the battery box, did you use the small or medium box? Thanks.
I'm not sure, I think it was the medium box.
Tim Kidwell Outdoors the medium box doesn’t fit in a 6 inch hatch. How big is your hatch? That would answer my issue. Thanks for your time.
It has 2 9 inch hatches.
Tim Kidwell Outdoors that explains it. Thanks. I’m going to have to figure something else out then.
Where can I get that little black wire gasket plug on 3:57 ??? :(
It came with the Garmin Striker 4.
Hello Sir
I saw your system at the video and made some research on it but haven't been able to clarify it. Does that system as efficent as the leaving the eye cable deep into the water or there are some loss of efficeny? Are they useful for both lake and sea usage? Some People claims that there Will be loss of efficeny but your opinions are important to me because it seems you are professionally working on that. Can you Please enlightening me about that than I Will determine my investment based on your opinions. Thank you for your help already have a great hunt
Hello, so the product shown was only $100. It’s definitely not going to burn a whole in anyone’s pocket but it’s not the greatest thing either. For what I used it for it worked great. No issues with clarity and it worked for both salt and fresh water fisheries.
What is the black piece called at the 3:59 mark? I’ve been looking everywhere but it’s extremely difficult without knowing what it’s called!
It came with the Garmin Striker 4.
I’m talking about the little piece covering the hole where the wires come through
I swear that specific piece is impossible to find
Yeah, that piece individually I'm not sure what it's called but it came with the Garmin.
Tim Kidwell Outdoors that’s strange, I got the Striker 4 Portable Kit and it didn’t include one. That’s unfortunate. Thanks a lot for the video though, it was really helpful.
What is the technical name for the small rubber gasket ?
L P I’m not sure, rubber washer o ring seal.
What type of transducer did you use
It came with the Striker 4, not sure.
Whats the a tual name of the wire that connects to the actual garmin fish finder..
Standard or through hull
It reads through the hull.
Need to wet it first or just installed
@@TimKidwellOutdoors ty for the reply
What size holes? And grommets?
I'm not sure, it came in a variety pack.
am I too late for the giveaway?
Only by 1 year and 9 months.
Tim Kidwell Outdoors bummer
Kayak👍👍👍👍👍😊✌🛶
I did it quickly and efficiently with instructions from Avasva website.
Carmelina Rosinski What’s that?
Thanks for this tip Carmelina
Can I put Velcro on the bottom (side that goes facing down on kayak) of the transducer without there being a problem with it doing its job?
I'm not sure.
