We've seen for 2 seasons in a row Bottas becoming the vice-champ of the world. And he's normally a top midfield driver. So, if he can consistently become the vice-champ of the world, then just put any good driver in that car and he's the WDC winner. For example, put Ricciardo inside. One of the ingredients for a "good race" in the hybrid era seems to be a Mercedes failure. This year, it feels like the recipe will be -a close fight between Max & Lewis with a McLaren vs. Ferrari fight for P3.
2020 Bahrain was heart breaking to watch, to see George have his career first win taken from him by a poor pitstop, if it was just the puncture he maybe could have won it still.
I was sitting infront of T1 in the grandstands for the 2018 Australian GP, when everyone saw Vettle come out in the lead the whole section stood up and cheered, an unforgettable moment!
I like how you conveniently forgot to mention that Rosberg was torpedoed by Vettel in the first corner of Malaysia 2016. He probably would have won the race, but he lost points through no fault of his own that race too. I think it would have been fair to mention that...
no no Rosberg was hAndED the world championship....forget that qualified 2nd and would've probably finished 2nd even if Lewis won. Then he got punted by Vettel's Ferrari and was on a comeback charge.
Lewis was on pole and dominated the race. If neither of them had had problems, Lewis would've scored 405 points to Rosberg's 388, and won the championship. And it's ridiculous how many people forget that Lewis had to start from the back in China and Belgium, and from tenth in Russia, all because of engine issues. Rosberg only had one grid penalty all year -- he started from sixth instead of second in Austria because of a gearbox issue. All things being equal, Lewis would've won the title almost as comfortably as he did in 2015, and would've once again won over half of the races that year.
Mercedes even manage to top the tables of biggest failures in the hybrid era. I can't think of another team that has managed quite so many, quite so staggeringly shocking disasters in the period. Although Hass and their wheel issues (either not being attached correctly in the pitstops or seemingly coming away from the teethers during crashes) runs a close second.
