9:11 Knot in the leader!!! I didn’t know this. I lost a fish like that the day before you posted this video. I saw and felt the knot a few times, but didn’t realize I’d break off once I had a bite. Glad to (now) know that that happens.
Ahhh yes, those little knots are guaranteed to break on a decent fish, once you see it, retie quick! It is pretty common with the c-rig but thankfully it's an easy fix. Tight lines Jorge!
Thanks Mike, thankfully nothing crazy happened. It was so random cuz this was in the summer and I don't believe there was any weather in the forecast. Safe travels!!
The crying baby was a good touch. Had me laughing every time. Have you ever tried to make the rear treble a smaller one to see if the hook set is better?
No, I generally don't mess with the hooks too much, obviously there is always much to learn and I'll have to look back to see what I could do better next time but I attribute this session as an anomaly....I don't typically miss so many fish on the LC and this just seems to have been "one of those days"
Hi Bob, bummer that your original comments kept getting deleted. I checked my "held for review" folder and it's not in there so I guess TH-cam removed them completely. But either way, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I appreciate you so much!
@@markskibo5159 I’ve been lucky to catch some decent fish in my life. But doesn’t matter if they’re big or small, it’s the joy of being out there and feeling that tug 🤙
Hi Anthony! It's the Half Mirror Glow, there are 3 pattern options and you should be able to get them at your local shop or on amazon. Let me know if you need more help finding them, you can search my affiliate link shop on amazon, I have them in there.
Love your surfperch fishing vids, but here in San Clemente, and I don't know of any beaches nearby that are similar to yours. You waves seem smaller & more manageable. Where are you fishing?
This is up in the Central Coast but there are plenty of great places for perch down where you are. Waves change by the day, certainly some beaches are bigger than others but in general our waters in SoCal are waaaay more manageable than up north. For example, our waters down here will be fantastic through Thursday before spiking up and peaking with huge swell on Sunday. Depending on which day you went out, your opinion of what the waves look like would be completely different. tight lines!
I’ve recently gotten back into surf fishing and have been doing quite well… surf perch, croaker, halibut, and just caught my PB striper a couple of days ago… my question is, what’s your favorite time of year to fish for these species? Thanks🎣
Is this socal or is this NorCal or something? Personally my family brings back the perch and whether you steam them or pan fry they are still pretty good. Also when’s your next trout video?
Central Coast, they are certainly good eating! I'm just more of a c&r guy when it comes to perch most of the time. I've got a batch of trout content, just a matter of getting the editing done. Working on one that will be the next vid drop! Tight lines!
Fantastic job Boyz! My guess is those perch were swiping, getting stuck, then having it ripped out. Unless they were big enough and hook a treble. Great video BKF!
Thanks so much Dwayne!! I don't know what the heck was going on but I just could not get them to stick that day! haha, but it's all good, this is why we have tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day. Provided we are blessed enough to have those days. Tight lines!
Great vid. I'm going to put this out to the community and hope for the best. I recently started surf fishing and use a Phenix 904 and a Fuego 2500. 15lb. braid with 15lb. floro leader. I keep snapping off my LC lures losing three on my last two trips. I'm launching these things into low orbit and about 1/2 to 3/4 of they way the whole system locks up and I lose the lure at the last knot. There are no knots in the line or anything else I can identify as to why this happens. It doesn't happen when I do C-rig or T-rig. I'm wondering if the braid is digging in at the spool and locking up. Wondering if I should up-size the reel or braid or switch to straight mono/floro. Besides the cost, I've been fishing Newport and it sucks knowing my lure is out there somewhere floating among the surfers. Any insight is appreciated...
Hey Russel, man I just did a long writeup/response and for some reason it got deleted when I tried to post it. My apologies. I wrote a lot too lol. To try and sum up what I originally wrote - I don't know what the issue might be. The fact that you are only experiencing this when throwing LC's and not other rigs is definitely confusing for me. 15 lb is not too light. I currently use 20 but am strongly considering moving down to 15 myself and I do know plenty of folks that use 15 without issue. I don't believe upsizing your reel/ braid will fix the issue based on what you're describing. One possibility to check on might be for any cracked guides. But if this were the issue, you'd be getting cut off on the braid, not at the point of the knot on the LC. Might be worth checking though just to eliminate that as an issue. But again, the fact that this is happening only when throwing LC's is really throwing me off. The only thing I can suggest is to respool your braid and check to see if it might be digging into itself when you're stripping it. The fact that it's locking up on the cast seems to suggest to me that this might be the issue. So sorry about the lost LC's, losing them certainly hurts.
@@BenjieKimFishing Benjie, thank you so much for the reply. I know you're a busy guy. I've spent so many hours wondering about this and going over my gear with a microscope. Something else I thought of after reading your post, is when fishing the heavy surf at Newport and trying to maintain a steady retrieve, there are times when the waves push my lure back faster than I'm reeling and I have to reel furiously to catch up. It's possible I'm spooling both loose and then tight line once I catch up. Possibly why I don't have this problem when I'm dragging the bottom. Sigh... And just so you know, I hadn't fished in more than 20 years and never in salt. By watching your videos I was able to purchase a little gear, learn a couple techniques and hit the beach with a tiny bit of confidence. On my second trip this past Thanksgiving I was able to hook and land my first and only halibut, 25.5". The mixture of elation and disbelief kept a smile on my face the rest of the day with those filets cooling in my fridge. I definitely owe you a beer. Tight lines, friend.
I even tried “wacky” rigging those worms and they smoke ‘‘em and I’ve noticed when they bite the worm stays outside the mouth and I can use the same worm over and over again
This was awesome! Ive never surf fished before but this is definitely making me want to! Do these fish tend to bite good in the winter? Would love to have an alternative to winter trout fishing
Oh yea, man I'd love to fish up north one of these days and yes, I know it can be way more dangerous up there. The water in the CC is actually pretty strong too at least if compared to my tepid SoCal surf that I'm used to lol!
The real draw of this video is how much fun and excitement you had while catching fish 👍. Good to see you having an enjoyable time.
Thanks so much this is a very encouraging comment. Positivity is so important for me on the water or off the water. Tight lines!

Tbh, I wasn’t even sure that I’d broken off due to the knot, but now I can say with certainty that that was the problem.

Huntington city and state beach, work north and south of the pier, lots of fish along that stretch!
