I think the CPL was going to have women's teams, but they are trying to establish the men's game first. I like how Matheson said it's taking too long, and she is just doing it - maverick. It makes me feel excited, uneasy, dismissive and scared which is the feeling I get when people are about to do something great.

AFC Toronto can be the springboard for Toronto soccer (both women and men). If I were the CPL and Toronto FC, I would like to build a partnership with AFC.

There should be an equivalent for the Canadian Premier League. I will be its first official fan! 😊❤

I think they can push for a 8K capacity stadium in Toronto. Women soccer will sell here especially if it’s promoted right, and they have the right sponsors. People will travel from Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan ect to watch these games since they’re promoting it as GTA team. All they need is Montreal or an Ottawa team you have your rivalry that’s going to sell tickets.

Toronto needs to become the soccer capital of Canadian soccer. Just look at Manchester, London, Milan, and Madrid. Toronto has the potential, and I would argue that the women's game needs more support and investment.

Why does it have to be Toronto, Canada is bigger than Toronto 😒

@@Kongohh All the major soccer powers have one city that serves as an "anchor" of the sport. Obviously, you should look into the history of the European game and look at how it has come to that.

@@vincentmuambiofficial I understand but why does it have to be Toronto, I feel like everything has to be in Toronto... Why have the 2nd largest country if it's only focus on Toronto?! Maybe it's time for things to change? 😕

@Chris Black Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the most well-known globally, and also, it's the economic hub for province and country. Also, Vancouver and Montreal would play a central role as well, but you need Toronto to lead the pack. It's a reflection of the market, the sport's longevity, but more importantly, the bulk of the population lives in Ontario (compared to other provinces and regions). The majority of the men's national teams hail from the Greater Toronto Area (five to seven players coming from Brampton who played in Qatar last year). The numbers speak for themselves, but one final supporting argument: media and business capital. Simply put, without Toronto to start with, soccer won't have a stranglehold. We have to be honest with our game.

@@vincentmuambiofficial Meh Toronto has the numbers and the money but they just don't have the right culture to lead the future of the sport, the thing with the GTA is lack of vision understanding that numbers don't necessarily mean answer if it was every great would hail from China's billion population... It's a more complex situation than simply being largest City... I'm not against Toronto's lead on this but I'd like a better assessment than the perpetual automatic, let's go to Toronto 😩 as if the game can't grow elsewhere Montreal is unfortunately having internal problems Vancouver would be interesting just for it's culture and weather, Alberta has proven to be able to build champion caliber players I'm not sold on Toronto being this "natural hub"

Does AFC stand for Association Football Club? I hope so. That's the real name for the sport. Soccer is the short form that came from the "soc" in Association (as opposed to rugger and rugby football), and football is the short form that came from the "Football" in Association Football. In North America, calling it Football when there already is a throwball/football seems pretentious, and calling it soccer means your going to get arguments from English wankers...and besides, it's Calcio ;-)
